Religion / Re: The Truth About Christ Embassy Healing School by Zechy09: 9:26am On Sep 21, 2014
Gents,

I have been following this thread, saw it in 2011, felt really bad for Kenya28. Please guys, don't subject this lady to another experience because it will be very devastating if she is not healed.

Two things to consider here:

1) If Joagbaje prays for her and she is not healed, he will blame her for not having faith or for being hot tempered.

2)If he prays for her and she gets healed, she will be panicking everyday monitoring what she does, think or say so that she will not sin and loose the CE healing according to joagbaje.

Lastly,

I will beg Joagbaje and whoever that wants to prove this challenge to do the below as it will bring people to God or make people seek medical solution as always recommended.

Challenge:

There are many sick people out there with any of the following, Ebola (which we can confirm easily), cancer, Diabetes or any known sickness.

All we need is REAL proof from the patient's family/friends and medical records that the person has been sick. I will pay for flight for the CE personell that will go there and pray for the person (if the person is far away).

I cannot believe we are surrounded by sick people and this argument has been going on for years without easy proof from both sides.

Let me know what you guys think.

Travel / Re: Pictures Of The Remodelled Enugu International Airport. by Zechy09: 11:51am On Aug 01, 2013
I am not very sure you have passed through the old terminals at heathrow airport but won't argue that much as it is difficult to ascertain as that airport is just too old to look nice. Enugu is not a major city in nigeria so i have compared it to the likes of dundee, aberdeen, norwich etc which are at par with it.

on a general note, it doesn't make sense to compare Dubai airport to enugu airport.
Travel / Re: Pictures Of The Remodelled Enugu International Airport. by Zechy09: 11:29am On Aug 01, 2013
@ bluetooth and other critics, Are you guys slow or just bitter or is there something else?

I live in aberdeen (UK) and the new Enugu airport is on the same level with Aberdeen airport and FINER than Dundee, Norwich airports and so many UK airports.... FACT

The Abuja airport was finer than the old heathrow terminals so STOP the nonsense!

You guys want the best, I also want the best but we cannot afford the best!

UK is building fast trains to run from London to north east of england for £33 billion(10yr project) and that is the kind of fast trains you guys want and also want it in 2yrs.

Please next election all you guys should just look for a clown or magician and vote into power so you can get everything done in 4yrs.

Career / Re: Do You Believe In Luck? by Zechy09: 10:17am On Jun 13, 2013
This is a very interesting topic Jarus, I am a perfect example of what you described, I am christian so i will call it favour but we are on the same page.

I left my banking job in nigeria to go for subsea engineering after studying Electronic Engineering and many people told me it would be the biggest mistake of my life but i carried on.

I entered the subsea class and found out i was probably the one with one of the lowest CPGAs in the class but i worked hard so nobody noticed i was a weak link. I was LUCKY to be one of the few that got internships, an oil company into electronic engineering told the school they needed an electronic subsea guy and they sent me for internship there! MIRACLE!!!

I did that for a few months and the manager called me for interview and during the interview i told them i loved subsea construction and installation.... They don't offer that service so I FAILED!!!

I didn't do my research well because i would have found out it was not part of their work. The manager told me that employing me would not be good as he would spend almost a £100k in training over 3yrs when i am not really interested. I begged him but "no show".

One day he told me that he ran into his old friend that was working in a subsea construction company as a manager and told him about me. He said i should contact the guy. I contacted him and was given a job in subsea installation and construction without technical interview.

Example 2
Two years later i went for a conference and ran into a Subsea Manager in one of the biggest O & G operators in the world (i could have ignored him but didn't), we had a chat about africa and a few things and he asked me if i wanted to work for them and i was like yes!!!
Had two interviews with them (he had already made up his mind before i came).
That's how i became installation engineer with them.

It is not by smartness or hustle alone, "time & chance" make everything easy!

Family / Re: Wife Vs Sister. Advice Please. by Zechy09: 10:08am On Jun 03, 2013
This is a VERY delicate issue, your sister is your blood and your family(parents/ siblings) will not forgive your wife for throwing out your sister.
What i suspect here is tussle for power. Please just try and get your sister a job that will keep her out of the house for most of the day.If she is a peace loving person, she will steer clear of trouble.

One thing is that many married women always try to ensure their husbands treat them better than they treat their siblings / parents and this is plain WRONG!

So with that in mind, just seek the understanding / corporation of your sister to a peaceful resolution of your marriage. I hope you are not trying to pass a message to your wife, that you won't send your sister packing.

My suggestion is let your sister leave temporarily.

Politics / Re: My Candid Score Card Of President Jonathan's Adninistration So Far by Zechy09: 8:30am On Jun 01, 2013
I am happy that you said you just gave him arbitrary scores from your mind. The problem is that most of you sit at home and say nothing is happening meanwhile a lot is happening.
Bussiness men are reading the report and looking at places where govt is subsidizing things and taking advantage of those to grow their businesses while others like you sit at home and say nothing is happening.

You gave health sector 40% from no where, mean while the equipment delivery in hospitals have been increased a lot and even my dad who is a doctor is manning equipment which do break down often but it is down to hospital management to fix these not GEJ!!!

Agriculture 30% is a joke- when all the fertilizer benefactors come and vote for him in 2015 you and I will come out and shout rigging but you will not go to villages near you to ask if people are getting these fertilizers. I know someone who got a job with govt helping to set up a delivery process for the fertilizers and a monitoring mechanism and you are here giving him 30% from your sitting room.

Corruption is from me and you- once i am caught doing the wrong thing, i will bribe my way out and blame the FG for it..
You people are making the government feel bad for exposing the truth and the next person that takes over from GEJ will certainly hide all the corruption so that people like you will say corruption has reduced. It doesn't pay to allow press freedom in Naija! GEJ has a lot to do in fighting corruption but nobody is comparing what senators earned during OBJ time to what they earn now, it has gone down by over 30% (still unbelievably high though). Nobody is asking what OBJ took for feeding per day to know if it has increased..... Nobody is asking both PDP and APC if they are collecting crazy amounts as security vote.

He has not done a wonderful job but he has done above average in many sectors

Career / Re: A Harsh Take On Locally-Trained Nigerians by Zechy09: 3:51pm On May 21, 2013
@ OP very nice topic you have raised. The problem is that the way you presented it will put the average naija man on the defensive (including me).
The truth is that it is a cultural thing which living abroad and interacting with foreigners will make you understand. You mentioned Foreign trained nigerians and the locally trained nigerians without properly defining the foreign trained as someone that has worked in first world countries in an interface role.I could also say some1 that infaced a lot with oyibo while studying here.

Example with myself,
When i started my professional job in UK, i went for my first meeting and made a suggestion, after the meeting, they all said that was so aggressive that it changed the mood in the meeting. I would send emails and copy different people would call me on phone and say that it sounded very aggressive. I had to learn how to talk and behave.
As resently as last week someone still told me i was a bit aggressive in a meeting and i was like WTH!
I have conference calls with people in Shell / Total in the mornings and to be frank you would easily tell the difference between the "foreign trained" and the "Naija trained" from the way the speak and shout down others.

I have so many examples in my head.

My two cents!
Romance / Re: I Cheated On My Boyfriend With A Married Man - Please Advise by Zechy09: 4:04pm On May 13, 2013
@OP,
The truth about life is that the world is filled with pretenders and like you said, many people will keep saying you are stupid and that such will never happen to them . To me, the purpose of the thread is "NEVER SAY NEVER".
Only the intelligent or mature minds will understand where you are coming from.
People like Ogugua88 may not because they have not experienced some things in life.
My Experience
When i was in university, i used to follow up people that would always say they are in perfect control and would never succomb to temptation, it was my little experiment, i would follow them up until i sleep with them just to prove to myself that they are like everyother girl. This sometimes took more than a year (mind you, they all knew my girlfriend.)
I also allowed my friend who was interested in my ex to continue being friends with her just because she said she would never sleep with any of my friends. Guess what! after 14months he slept with her!
Bottom line, never say never! cos nobody knows what temptation the OP faced. Many would succomb much quicker than she did. I can bet she knows now not to trust her natural ability to resist.
Learn from it and move on!

Politics / Re: Lekki Port To Generate $200 Billion + 163,000 Jobs by Zechy09: 1:55pm On Apr 23, 2013
Can you see the reason many people don't take politics section serious and assume it is a place to defend your political affiliation instead of defending the truth.
You always criticize GEJ all the time and i thought you were an "Objective Nigerian" standing up for the truth, i didn't know you are just an ACN apologist.
This is a blatant lie and there is no way to justify the lie. Even if it is for a period of 70yrs, it will still be a BIG lie!
I expect people irrespective of their political affiliation to say the truth at all times and NOT speak the truth when it is GEJ and lie when it is opposition.

My two cents.
Gbawe:

Correct. You ask precisely the right question. How long is the concession period over which the $200 billion target is based upon? Why can posters here, on either side of the debate i.e feasible or otherwise, not simply establish this critical fact before they begin attempting to speak conclusively?

Secondly, the utterance of the Managing Director of the Lagos Free Trade Zone, Mr. Haresh Aswani, may have been misunderstood by many. He stated and I quote:

http://www.theheraldng.com/200-billion-internal-revenue-expected-from-lekki-port-by-2016/

"on completion by 2016, the project would contribute to the internally generated revenue of Lagos state some $200 billion and will create about 163, 000 new jobs."

Obvious that any estimate is not exclusive to the direct earning of Port operations alone but also to so many other linked State income generation consideration such as the taxes to be paid to Lagos by thousands of newly created jobs, business levies, tourism, etc, etc.

The Lekki deep sea port is conceded for 45 years which means the $200 billion estimated accrual to Lagos state government is expected over that period from direct and indirect activities connected to the operation of the Port. I.e over $4 billion a year, over 45 years, will accrue to Lagos through the direct and many connected considerations arising from the operation of the Lekki deep sea port. Optimistic in my opinion but not unrealistic or fraudulent.

Career / Re: 5 Places To Start Career In Nigeria by Zechy09: 1:31pm On Apr 18, 2013
Thanks Jarus,

The economic situation in nigeria / mindset of an average nigerian makes us see the best jobs as the highest paying jobs.

let me start with financial sector, you are absolutely right about the companies you mentioned. They may not be the highest paying but the young graduate will learn key skills that will make him competitive in any part of the world. PWC, KPMG & Accenture would ground you on financial advisory /consultancy.
My advice to new graduates planning to travel abroad to further their education is that instead of working for banks or other companies that pay better, go to the above listed companies (if you have the chance). I worked briefly for a bank in Naija and can confirm to you that YOU WILL NOT ACQUIRE ANY SKILL YOU CAN USE ELSEWHERE.

While i agree with you on SHELL (which i am familiar with), i would advise people to work for service companies like Schlum/ baker hughes / weatherford/ Technip first to gain proper technical experience / training as the big IOCs are mainly managerial.

As for GTB , if you are not in head office doing risk management/ audit etc then it's as good as every other bank (please i may be wrong ooh!!!)

My two cents!!

Thanks for your contribution. You can easily earn that day rate as a senior subsea engineer but the down side is no stability with job and it is a "no work no pay" arrangement.
I will still do the day rate thing a bit later when i have my british passport.

Politics / Re: Iran Generating 76,800 MW And Exporting Power Despite Being Under Sanctions!!! by Zechy09: 2:15pm On Feb 15, 2013
@ ROSSIKE, you sound like someone that is very exposed. I have tried to use your argument in many settings in Nigeria but most times they look at me as stupid. This mind set is what you get from exposure!
People want overnight change not knowing that democracy does not offer that anywhere in the world.
China, Iran, Libya etc have a similar kind of govt so they can wake up in the morning and decide to embark on a project costing $1B and nobody can question that. Can you remember that many of the flyovers in Lagos were built in military era? this is because one man makes all decisions. The same people shouting Buhari everyday don't realise that he had absolute powers as HOS but now every decision will be delibrated by NASS and that will take 3 months before it is handed to office of due process which will take another 3 months etc. These things lead to slow pace developement but they are good for democracy.

People think that we are in military where you can give power station contracts without due process, if you could do that, then we would get everything under 2yrs. If NEPA people threaten strike, they will be locked up or beaten up.
People need to understand democracy!
ROSSIKE:

If PDP, out of a desire to develop Nigeria overnight, does what the Ayatollahs did, by crushing all opposition, crushing all debate, crushing freedom of assembly, expression, religion, crushing equal representation, murdering dissidents and journalists, crushing the rights of women, etc etc would you subscribe? YES OR NO. IF NOT, THEN DON'T MENTION IRAN.

I repeat, you cannot just mention the SWEET PART and leave out the unsavoury portion where it concerns countries like Iran, Cuba, China, Libya etc - countries which seemed to have developed overnight. TELL US THE PRICE THEY PAID FOR THAT DEVELOPMENT. Else you're being intellectually dishonest. Are we willing to pay the same price in Nigeria? NO. Therefore development will be less swift and speedy than Iran. A democratic system means more debate. More disagreement. Multiple interests among stakeholders in all issues. Projects take longer. There is more opportunity for corruption and waste. Boko Haram giving you problems? Sorry, you can't just go and level the whole Maiduguri, as would happen in Iran or Libya. You have to have a measured response. Dialogue, intelligence, infiltration would be your fighting tools. Therefore the problem will take longer to resolve... etc etc.

We have decided to take this path because we as a people are not willing to live under an Ayatollah type or Cuban type dictatorship, no matter the benefits. India is similar to Nigeria. They could go the China route if they wished, and become a first world nation in 10 years. But the Indians have decided they cannot tolerate a Chinese-type dictatorship, hence a more slow moving, corruption-prone democracy which is yielding fruits and dividends, but only slowly, while protecting peoples' rights. So they might get there in 30 years. This is what we're doing in Nigeria. So comparing us to Iran makes no sense.

Second, your timeline for Iran generating power vis a vis Nigeria is irrelevant insofar as it can be shown (as I have done) that Iran began self government nearly a century before Nigeria, and so has had more time to develop her infrastructure and state institutions etc etc. So there is no basis for comparison. Iran's 1989 is Nigeria's 2013. If you've been following developments in the power sector you'd know that we are on the verge of a huge expansion in power output similar to what Iran experienced between 1989 and 2009.

Chai, at times i wonder if comments on nairaland are typed by robots or human beings (no offence). Guys!!!! You people should stop all this complaining from morning to night... Your president will remain in power till 2015 (minimum). Everyday you people come here and condemn all the good decisions of the president and also condemn all the bad decisions with the same way. I am gradually loosing hope with this generation.
Think about the following good things:

For the first time in Nigeria we have a president that is running democracy the way it should be run i.e Freedom of speech, I sometimes go to GEJ's facebook and insult him without fear. That is democracy!

He allows newspapers to publish anything including lies about his government without interference.

He does not interfere with ministers or govt appointment holders and just gives them free hand to perform or fail.

We are constantly bashing the govt day in day out yet we stole money in student politics etc.

This hospital will employ som many doctors, nurses, IT specialists, cleaners, security men, engineers, plumbers electricians.
During construction, they will buy cement, sand, tiles, blocks from the common man and yet the same people will come here and lament! shame on you!
Remember they will pay for internet access and buy diesel steady from stations owned by common men.

My brothers and sisters QUIT complaining and see that this is how the money goes round!

The government can do better but they need encouragement. If you want change, just wait for 2015 and vote GEJ out.

As at now, give them support and report bad practices or suspicious people to police.

@ OP, I mostly read and move on but had to comment. I am married and have to tell you the truth, no woman that pictures you as her future husband will break up with you because you called her "idio t". This generalisation is applicable to both oyibo and naija (Please folks forgive my generalisation). this reaction is not from the abuse, it is from cumulative issues. Please watch her carefully to determine if she is the unforgiven type because you may not be able to handle such in marriage. PLS DO NOT CALL YOUR FIANCE SUCH DEROGATORY NAMES EVER COS IT WILL ALWAYS PLAY IN HER HEAD!
Hard truth:
She may not really love you as you love her which is a recipe for low self esteem in men because you will work very hard althrough the marriage to retain her love. love fades which is normal for long distance r/ship.

Recommendation:

Free her now (if you have apologised sincerely), if she will make a good wife, trust me, she will come back and tell you never to abuse her again. Also try and think about the past six months of your r/ship, you may realise that she has lost interest.

Career / Re: How Can NUC Improve The Quality Of Engineers? by Zechy09: 4:52pm On Jan 11, 2013
I think i agree with you that when money is the motivating factor, then you will not have good engineers. The difference between a nigerian trained engineer and foreign trained engineer is the passion... nothing else! I did an engineering masters abroad and had a lot of engineering undergraduate friends and when they talk, i see so much passion as they would be reading how different systems work e.g pressure systems, gear boxes etc.
You will hear them talk about modifications to these systems over the years. It is not by training but by interest in what they do.
One other myth is that they don't do the kind of calculations we do. Please they do the same old calculations! They come out with more knowledge mainly out of personal reseach.
My two cents!
wise_many2k:

Guy, i dont agree with you....money shouldn't be a motivating factor for young engineers rather, the passion for the profession. I am an engineer and i remember in 2008 when i met a top member of NSE with a proposal which she directed me to address to the secretary general of the body. The proposal was for ways to improve the Nigerian engineer. I propose that the school curricula for engineering students should be reduced to 3yrs in universities after which successful students (that passed a general exam set by NSE/COREN) wld be admitted into an engineering institute (a multipurpose engineering learning center that is fully equipped by govt for all engineering fields where students will specialize in at least 1 field) and managed by NSE/COREN. The institute should be large enough to train at least 10,000 engineers yearly and the duration of the program in the institute can be either 2 or 3years and should be at least 90% practical. The NSE woman asked me if i have seen it work in any other country and i told her NO cos i just had the idea...and that ws the end of that proposal embarassed

I believe that method will work.

I saw this thread late, i guess you have made your choice. If you can still choose uniaberdeen, it would pay you more than cranfield even though cranfield is rated higher. An example is studying engineering in uniport vs sokoto (with sokoto being a better school). You will not have industy touch in you MSc unlike the people that studied in aberdeen. All my modules had people from oil companies around taking a part of it. Shell thought almost 15units. People get jobs around here more than in cranfield. Make a wise choice.

@braveheart, I think info provided by somebody seems exagerated but not very far from the truth. I will say a lot changed after the meltdown and my 30yr old friend was earning almost £150k in investment banking but he lost his job.

@Queensmith, I think you need to change your friends (If you find the stories strange). This i was advised the moment i came here. If your friends are doing menial jobs, you will feel it is normal and not hustle as much as required to get a pro job.

@aspen2x, I think everyone will benefit from what you want to ask.

To everybody in UK hustling, connections work like magic here in UK. Networking helps people land very good jobs.
My friend was working as a security man in TOTAL here, he used to gist with most of the managers when they go for a smoke and one day one of them asked him why he was still doing security work after an MSC in Subsea engineering and he said "no company wants to employ me". The man took his cv and sent it out to a few people and they called the boy for interview in London. The interview was about pay, not about technical knowledge. So guys network and pray.

The oil servicing company had to almost double his sign-on bonus to make him join them. There are jobs and there are people looking for jobs too. If you pray and do your part diligently, God will show up. Do you know that companies like Accenture, PWC and other consulting firms are still looking to fill their 2012 quota? Yet they haven't found the right candidates to fill those positions. for those saying there are no jobs please check job boards and you will still see vacancies that are open even though now is not the time most companies recruit-they are simply open because they have been unable to fill those positions.

Thanks for sharing your story, I have loads of people with such stories but I hope they will come and share it here. People are making it both here and naija, so hope to hear more stories.

For example, if i talk about what i do and the kind of positions me and my friends hold in our various organizations it will seem like bragging so the best thing is to just note that it is not the same for everyone and live it at that.
Some have jobs, some don't. Some own companies, some dream about companies...,,.,.,,

@ A_town, thanks for your comment. I Played it down a bit so people won't say I am telling lies. In the middle of the so called recession, recruitment agents are calling everyday begging to take up another offer. I think the major issue is that we all come from naija without experience so we find it difficult to sell ourselves. With relevant experience, people can still come here and get jobs very easily in oil and gas sector and visa will be done for them.

somebody: Interestingly I have lived in the UK for about 10 years and I have never had a menial job (thank God). I came to the UK as a student fully funded by my parents and while studying did not have a job as my parents thought it would be distracting. I never had as much money as my friends who had part time jobs or wealthy parents but I had enough and I was content. After my undergraduate degree (well more like during my final year), I probably applied for more than 50 jobs and did not get any job offer. Called home and begged my parents to allow me do a Masters - well more like fund it and they very reluctantly agreed. I believe I discovered nairaland during my masters some 6 years ago. Started my masters straight after my first degree and before I finished my masters, I had a good offer from an oil & gas firm. After some time, I moved on to financial services and steadily built my career. Speaking to my mum recently, she said "you are always lucky with these things" because all my jobs have literally landed on my lap and I thank God for the opportunities He has given me.

I think people in Nigeria are always so quick to put people abroad down for whatever reason and make comparisons to justify their own circumstances. When I compare myself to friends that moved back home, I really struggle to see how their lives are much better than mine. I have to admit though that I miss having help - driver when you are tired, maid to clean &cook after a hard day's job. But would I trade my life for the madness in Nigeria - not too sure but home is home so at some point I will look to relocate to Nigeria.

@Somebody, I am happy to hear your story. There are so many of us here that have very good stories to tell. I don't know about other places as i am in Aberdeen and almost every good oil and gas company has a Nigerian engineer at mid level - management. I wish i could get my friends to post their experiences as well. One of the reasons i opened this thread was to get people in Nigeria to stop putting down people in UK as if everyone flips burger and also understand that the ones that flip burger will get professional jobs with time. My friend that did security with me three years ago has been working for wood group as a snr engineer earning 600pounds per day for the past 15months (contract position). This is just one of the numerous stories.

Please guys keep it coming!!!!

Travel / Nigerians have good jobs in UK (enough Of Sad Stories) by Zechy09: 8:32pm On Aug 07, 2012
This thread is as a result of numerous threads on nairaland about nigerians in diaspora suffering so much. I want to create an avenue for nigerians abroad to encourage one another and tell the ones about to come that that it is not that bad. I will start with my story.:

I studied one of the oil and gas MSc courses in UK, graduated and started looking for a job in the UK. I had to start working as a security man (bouncer) in a club here. I also worked in spar as a door man while looking for a job. Some of our mates laughed at us (my friends and I) for doing security jobs and they moved to nigeria. Out of 10 that moved to Nigeria, only one got a good job in shell, the others ended in banks and other one man businesses. Out of 15 that stayed back and did security work, care work and other menial jobs while looking for a professional work, 14 have so far gotten professional jobs. Mind you, it is not easy as the last one got a job in schlumbeger UK last 2 weeks after 16months of job search and security work.
I myself did security work for 9 months and got a professional job in an oil and gas firm( TO GOD BE THE GLORY).

Please encourage others with your success story and tell people in Naija to understand that menial jobs are used to pay bills while searching for professional job. Do not laugh at people doing such jobs as most of the naija people in oil sector here did security or care work.

It depends on how you look at things. It is not that bad in the UK. I keep getting calls from recruitment agencies asking me to quit my job and move to a new company so i would tell you for a fact that there are jobs everywhere cool. It just depends on your sector and favor. All my friends here have gotten professional jobs so i see no reason to feel that people in UK are suffering. It may not be compared to some naija jobs but it is better than the average naija job and conditions are very ok here.

I thought i was the only one that noticed the £25000 pounds contained in a wallet. I noticed that we nigerians don't pick out these details before hitting the reply button. I was watching bbc the other day and saw Ribadu saying that Ibori brought a bag containing $15m dollars as bribe and he refused it and the presenter asked "what kind of bag can contain 15m dollars?" and Ribadu said it was a big bag. Obviously that was a big lie (This is not to say Ibori didn't bribe him) BUT to show that we like exagerating things to the extent that it does not make sense at all.
Abeg people let us ask ourselves the wallet containing that amount in £50 pound notes!
