@Maternal, Easy bro! lol. Atimes we're blinded by patriotism. If the OP had a prosperous business in naija with potentials of earning millions, I would understand. But that 400k is really not something to hold on to if you have the opportunity of moving to Canada, where the public school that is free is likely better infact better than the Coronas and chrislands that are overpriced with limited recreational facilities, you get quality healthcare for the family, sleep in houses with no burglary proof and no fear. It's endless.. No discrimination between the rich and poor, lots of services are subsidized for low income earners. we all pray Nigeria gets there one day but till then.. |
Eke40seven:I can tell you with confidence that lots of oil companies in N.America are facing shortage of hands in the field. with the right skill set and networking you can get a good job. Oil price is currently not high but fairly stable, companies have come to terms with the price and adjusted their budget. Also the baby boomers are retiring, there's a need to fill up the void they're leaving behind and this will continue for some more years. 400k in Nigeria now is not the same as 400k of 4 or 5 years ago ooo, things don red. If he has the opportunity to leave, now is the time. Aside oil and gas there're many other viable sectors he can jump into, options abound. Major advice I'll give anyone moving abroad, drop that false sense of entitlement. Because you were at a certain position in Naija doesn't mean you must get that same level abroad, walk your way up, key is getting your foot in the door. Wish the OP luck! |
@thesoj, you totally summed it up. Everything lies on the OP. Another advice is he shouldn't leave that job in naija and move to Canada on student visa knowing fully well he has dependents in Nigeria. Get a migrant visa and move the entire family. For those saying 400k monthly is a huge pay, that's false. First he has to maintain a standard of living, pay rent, pay exorbitant sch fees for kids, generator, food, still face the challenges of living in naija. Kids development is restricted to academics only, no sport or recreational facilities available and so on... |
Eke40seven:Most important factor to consider is the earning power in a country. If the OP has a similar job in Canada, he'll earn about 5 times what he earns in Nigeria. The idea is taking a calculated risk, sincerely analyzing his chances of getting a decent job in Canada within a year. The first year might be rough especially moving with a family. Things might be more expensive but u're bound to earn enough to cover those expenses. N400k monthly is meagre to what he's capable of earning in a decent job in Canada. |
@Op, If u'll be moving out as a PR holder, go for it. you have the potential of making much more than What you make in Nigeria currently especially with this exchange rate. Better life, more opportunities for your children, less stress. Someone mentioned lack of Nigerian food, you'll most likely eat more Nigerian food than when u were in Nigeria. |
This man is brave. Sumbo will be addressed by the media as Tuface's babymama for the rest of her life, both parties shud deal with it. |
odimbannamdi:Tag me when u write about DSSC. thanks |
ChisOsin:After your arrival. |
ChisOsin:can range from 45-80days. currently at 54 days. |
zandora:Have u called them? Might be an issue with your passport photograph. |
ChisOsin:Your plan of keeping your job in Nigeria while your husband finds his feet in Canada, is a good one. Check carefully if u can see an occupation that relates closely to his. If not You have no other choice than to be the PA. But u have to spend half the time shuttling to maintain your PR. So check well. |
WoodcrestMayor:click on it to see more details. It will be "In process" till ur visa is stamped and it changes to "Decision Made". when you land it changes to "complete" |
WoodcrestMayor:Lots of updates from Accra in the last 2weeks. Mainly visas and PPRs. |
Rhyle:The essence of POF is for you to come in with the said amount. For your survival and for you not to be a burden to the system. Remember you're coming in as a professional and you're expected to have a decent standard of living to u get your desired job. In most cases, families actually need more than their POF. |
@ Vinshu. I understand your view point, but what u wrote up there is totally not correct. These days marriage is like a partnership. In the western world and even Nigeria, a lot of women are excelling in their career, many are doing better than the men. Hope u know u stand a better chance getting a mortgage approval as working couple than as a single individual. Car is not a big deal, a decent job will get u a car easily. I'll only say, a jobless man has no business marrying a jobless woman if they intend having kids. But if their combined income can provide a level of comfort for the family and in their 30s, in love with each, nothing stops them from getting married. |
Rhyle:After you receive ur PPR. |
jagaban17:Go for the first option, the power engineering, speaking from experience. Telecom is too shaky |
irondome:It's a free orientation program organized by the International Organization for Migration, with funding from Canadian government. It's not compulsory to attend, but it's an informative session that runs the whole day, u can ask whatever question u want to. |
romefe:I don't have all the details about Manitoba's driver license system. But it will do you a lot of good if u you travel with your genuine Nigerian license that's about 3years old. The Nigerian license will allow you drive for about 3 months but u need to submit it for you to get theirs after writing your knowledge test. confirm your license here https://www.nigeriadriverslicence.org click on DL application. |

King Abdulaziz International Airport (Jeddah, Saudi Arabia) https://i2.cdn.turner.com/cnnnext/dam/assets/141020104453-worst-airport-2-jed-horizontal-large-gallery.jpg Saudi Arabia's Jeddah King Abdulaziz International Airport held onto its position as world's second worst airport. Voters were annoyed by the chaotic, crowded, unclean airport -- particularly within the Hajj terminal. "From smoking in non-smoking areas to the bathroom odor wafting out into the lounges, few people sang praises after spending time here," said Sleeping in Airports. "Multi-hour immigration queues with distracted and absent officers further aggravated travelers." Fortunately, the site said Jeddah's days on the list are likely numbered -- the new Jeddah Airport is scheduled to open mid-2016. |
1. Port Harcourt International Airport (Nigeria) https://i2.cdn.turner.com/cnnnext/dam/assets/151019102900-1-worst-airports-2015-port-harcourt-exlarge-169.jpg Traveling through Nigeria's Port Harcourt International Airport any time soon? Sorry for your luck. The African terminal received the unfortunate distinction of being named "world's worst airport" in 2015 by travel website The Guide to Sleeping in Airports. This year's survey, which asked fliers to identify the world's worst and best aviation terminals, attracted 26,297 qualifying responses. Despite the site's name, airports weren't just rated according to how easy it is to take a nap while inside them. Sleeping in Airports' readers were asked to judge facilities in four categories: comfort, conveniences, cleanliness and customer service. What landed Port Harcourt at the top of the pile? Respondents reportedly complained about unpleasant and unhelpful staff, alleged corruption, a severe lack of seating, broken air-conditioning and the fact that the arrivals hall was inside a tent. "The good news is that some areas of the terminal have been recently renovated, meaning you can expect actual walls, floors and windows," says the website. "Though it is a far cry from reasonable, improvements are being made." http://www.cnn.com/2015/10/19/aviation/worlds-worst-airports-2015/index.html |
