Few months back. I sold my car after I had used it for 5years. I didn't get another immediately as the fund to get the desired car isn't available yet. I had to go get my younger brother's Nissan Xterra to take my family to a function this faithful day. We got to venue and while exchanging pleasantries I remember the mint I brought was in the car. I went back to the car unlock as usual with the remote. Putthe key back into my pocket as usual open the door and sit in the car to rearrange the money put them in different pockets. I got down frim the car jam the door then remembered I need to take one envelope for the celebrant's mum. I dipped my hand in my pocket and alas it's empty. Wow! I looked throughout the front door window already wind up and behold the key was sitting on the seat. I ran in to inform my friend then we started looking out for panel beatter. We eventually got one after following the direction pointed to us by one of the hottel's security. The man firstly chrged us to an agreed cost. He stood up looked around for few instruments to use and followed us to the car. We got to the car and this man started working. He called us to assist him in pulling the door from the top so that he can get a clear reach to get the key out. After trying with no success he left and promised to get more tools for the job. We wait for about 5 minutes and the man has not returned so we started trying it out ourselves. We have tried for some 15 minutes sweating profusely when the man returned with 2 others. One of the new guys asked us to stop turned to the other man who brought them and asked him if he had told us the cost and if we had agreed to pay. At that point I asked them what their real motive was, was it to collect the money first or do the job. Already seeing that we were making progress on our own without the so called professionals. I asked the to leave as they have shown no interest in doing the job but started unnecessary argument about money.
My friend and I got another hand. We went to work pulling at the door and trying getting out the key with a string. Later I asked the 2men to pull the door and Inserted a cain through the opening from the top and pressed the unlock button on the remote. Thelights blinked as there was a click on the door. Thats how we opened the door after trying all sort of methods for another 20minutes.

Op, this depend on the type of car. I once had Landrover Freelander with power steering issue. The oil leaks from the rack and to reduce the oil cost before repairs I used black oil in replacement of the power steering oil. This I did for over a year before changing the damaged rack.
I can't do that to the car I am using now.

In as much as I am not in support of the acts of vandalism nor disobeying the constituted authorities. I must say that this statement issued by the Lagos state government via the commissioner lay more emphasis on our love for material things "the govenment assets". No part of the statement show remorse or sympathy for the lost life of a man (the hawker). It simply shows that materialism is valued above life by the government.
A show of compassion towards the dead will not reduce the punishment to be meted out to the hoodlums and vandals but will go a long way to showing our government's deepest regret that a life was lost in the act of carrying out the expected law duties by the state.
It is so sad.
