I like Xiaomi oh. But I won't excuse them at all. If there are breaches in their software, they should fix it.

Personally, I don't use the MI browser so I don't care. I use the phone and I deactivated the browser. I'm attached to Chrome and Opera. Even these two steal data. Everyone steals data.

Xiaomi have posted a press release saying that they take data privacy seriously. Let's see how it goes.
An update tackling the privacy issues with mi browser has been sent twitter.com/zesushv

Xiaomi has sent an update to the mi browser.
Waiting for checks to be sure the browser is privacy infringement free this time and the details available on the app update details is not just an hoax...

one of the reasons I'll always stay on the android os with a reputable manufacturer I.e those with SD chips

The ability to twrp, root and strip the idiot down and install lightweight and FOSS apps that JUST does what it was meant to do no extra bells and whistles

That's why some app modders and reverse engineers can't be blamed some times

Just reading this thread after watching SNOWDEN this morning

Anyways I thank the Lord Jesus for His death and resurrection to give me and anyone wiling to follow Him the opportunity to choose good and DO GOOD

HVWriter kudos, don't loose yourself

PS I never liked the mint browser or any stock browser from day one

When i compare mint, chrome et all to via browser I just can't stay easy

Via browser <2mb
Mint, chrome et al >15mb size is an understatement

Difference in size equals extra codes
Extra codes equals more storage and RAM needed

And via browser can do all mint and chrome can

So why the extra codes?

Those greedy people are using my phone storage and RAM to collect analytics on me!!! angry

I don't wanna shout...

Like the Bible says "let he that has an ear hear what the Spirit is saying"
I have been using monument browser for almost a month now, after reviewing it.
Browser is just 1.6mb in size. Definitely going to check the via browser out.
Thanks, The Lord got me, I can't lose Him.

Infinix note 5 that year showed me pepper with Asphalt 9 and MK X updates. The final straw was when I wasted 10GB trying to download game files for modern combat 5 and wartune. I nearly cried when the MC 5 game kept crashing, wartune files were corrupted. I couldn't eat that day.
I no wan go inside details. But after suffering with an mtk devices for years playing mkx... Forget all the data and pain.. The account still got banned.... Mtk for a gaming phone, bad experiences every where for me.

Still on bobble ai keyboard matter.
I was complaining to a team about the app when I stumbled upon the issue involving xiaomi breaching users privacy and agreement.

If you look at the date on the screenshot below, you will see that I wrote developer even before the xiaomi issue.
So you can see I take my privacy seriously.

And just like xiaomi is doing, read the developers reply to my enquiry. As if I am a newbie to the android ecosystem and keyboard app usage.

PhonesRe: See Xiaomi’s Response To Accusation That It Collects Users’ Data by ZesusHVWritter(m): 5:03pm On May 03, 2020
This app on playstore has over 10million+ downloads, over 4.6 ratins.
bobble ai keyboard
A screenshot is attached below about the app.
This app has so many privacy violations that no sane person should allow it access.
In fact, I am amazed at how it's still on the Google play store.

Because the world is filled with persons who has been taught to not care about something as important and critical as their privacy it has over 10million persons who probably has it installed and using the app on their devices.
The thing is, this company cannot be sued because except you are gullible enough to just be ticking "yes" to every of their privacy access request you won't use this snooping app.
So if you allowed the app in, then it's your problem. Not Google, not the developer. But your problem. Afterall android is open source.

This is nothing like xiaomi's case. No Xiaomi user or Mint Browser ever accepted to be monitored or their privacy comprised like xiaomi is doing right now.

No where on Xiaomi's privacy policy was it stated that xiaomi will be allowed to do that to any user.

Internet privacy, quite frankly, doesn't exist.
I did and my data has never been touched. I guess I do take my privacy and follow through when accepting any privacy request from apps.
Screenshot attached below.

And to prove you wrong by your means, after verifying that site, I inputed my email and it showed the Internet is not unsafe, but like the world, if you are careless with your approach you become a prey to a predator. Internet privacy do exist, only if you don't pay attention to details will you be a public rag for any company to take advantage of.

Redmi Note 8 feels premium and I don't see the urgent need to jump onto the Redmi Note 9 bandwagon (gcam is keeping me glued to RN8 grin)
Being a mild gamer, I prefer sd chipset devices to mtk.
And coming from mtk I noticed something on sd.
If a game of over 1.5gig data gets an update on playstore.
For sd chipset, it might be 100mb or less.
For mtk, you will be redownloading the entire game again of 1.5gig data.

I don't know if this is still applicable to newer mtk devices or not.
But except this question is answered, I won't be considering any midrange mtk device for the foreseeable future.

Except sd goes to oblivion or decides to become unceremoniously less innovative. My highend device will always be SD.

I no understand why it has come to this. Begging people to reject "rubbish for their own good".
See the ongoing privacy breached by xiaomi, I feel sad that people are creating excuse for xiaomi up and down.
Xiaomi is a good company true, they have made a mistake they need to correct; also true.
But xiaomi is refusing to correct this mistake, its the duty of everyone in generally. Xiaomi or mint browsers or not to hold xiaomi accountable.
Instead of that, you go see so many irrelevant talks of Facebook is spying, western hate Chinese, Americans want Chinese not to grow.

Xiaomi dey steal data, no be say them say no buy xiaomi products.
I am completely confused right now.

If you're serious about your data privacy activism, you shouldn't make it one sided by restricting your fight to Xiaomi, take it to Facebook too. I'll have to warn you though, you're fighting a lost cause.
Your claims are relevant and to substantiate my stand even further, I don't have a Facebook app on my device. I can't remember the last time I visited Facebook, but I will log in now as this came into discussion.

Secondly, it's not about being an activist of privacy or fighting a good fight.
This as simple as, xiaomi is doing something wrong and knowing xiaomi and what it stand for, I wasn't expecting this to drag on at the expense of her users and fans trust.

Whether you see it or not, I didn't post this on nairaland. I only commented to clarify that, though acknowledged the importance and quality of xiaomi's product, I am not in support of this behaviour of xiaomi.

Goto my twitter wall its clustered with xiaomi and her products, imagine my pain, when someone you had suggested xiaomi to comes to your inbox to ask "Am I safe while using this phone?".
I don't know the heart or substance you all that have been excusing xiaomi's gross negligence and complete show of unwarranted cunning are made of.

But I am not in support of xiaomi stealing of users private data.
I and every one who cares more for life first, will ensure xiaomi is duly brought to account even if the brand goes under for this.
You can't just cash in on people's trust because you can.

Imagine if everyone was lying to you, and you found out that, that one person you trust all these while may have been the biggest liar.

You all are so comfortable with so many abnormalities and discrepancies, it makes me feel sorry and sympathetic towards your conditions.
No one should be brought this low, most especially not Nigerians. Good people who deserves only the best.

Nobody has said spying is a good thing. But I just wanted to let you know that the major spies are the ones accusing China and Xiaomi of spying. Xiaomi has no more power to spy on you than apple, google, microsoft, facebook or others.
No one is accusing xiaomi of spying. Xiaomi is actually spying... Are your fixation only to propagandas and claims?
Look at the facts and evidence levelled against xiaomi. It's not an accusation anymore, it's not an investigation.
Xiaomi was caught compromising users data and are still doing it to everyone browsing with mi browser or mint browser.
This is proven facts not alleged.
What is difficult to get here?
Except you are saying the evidence found was planted, otherwise xiaomi is stealing users data.

Other than Facebook, everyone on your list has only be "alleged" to compromise users data. So if I am wrong, point me to a detailed fact of spying.

And just for informative purpose, Apple has one of the most secured OS, if not the most secured.
Not because they can't be hacked, but unlike xiaomi, if Apple gets a report of a leak or privacy infringement. They act immediately.
I am using an android device/xiaomi in case you are wondering.

You're missing the point, brother. For your information, every communication electronic device you're using is spying on you; including your so called secured one that you're typing with. The Amazon alexa or and eco smart speaker device were also caught red-handed spying on Americans. Smart TV's has been caught videoing rooms in America.

And as I said earlier, listen to Edward Snowden's interviews on Youtube for how the US spies on YOU and the whole world. When it comes to spying, China and Xiaomi still dey learn work.

Maybe Tecno sells their customer service as a premium. They have better support than Samsung sef. Not to talk of xiaomi, and Nokia.
Have you been to carlcare?
I went there in 2014 and 2018.

In 2014, my tecno m3 bricked while I was on WhatsApp plus, this was so shocking to me then because I couldn't understand how a phone I was chatting on, hanged then bricked. I didn't know then how Tecno sourced for thier inferior parts but sell to an average user for a premium price.

I went to the premium carlcare you are talking about, it took 32 days for my bricked Tecno m3 to be fixed. Something that won't take 25minutes to be done by a roadside technician.
The long wait is the premium service.

In 2018 my infinix hot note pro battery began to swell inside pushing the back of the phone up... I took the phone to carlcare.
The attendant at carlcare said they don't have the replacement battery, when I enquired on when they were going to have it his reply was "I don't know", he was disproving and uninterested in attending to the device it felt like I was asking him a favor. I left carlcare with prayers and heavy heart hoping to never go back there, ironically I bought the infinix note 3 pro before going to carlcare. Low and high, I got a replacement battery for my aging infinix hot note pro the same day from a vendor.

So please, giving excuse to wickedness or cheating or scams makes you worse than the actual criminals.

Don't.

I feel really disappointed at xiaomi to say the least. With all the evidence and facts pointing to xiaomi collecting users data without users consent via mi browser. Xiaomi's replies to this issue has been "xiaomi does not collect data without users consent"
So xiaomi you show proof of users agreeing to you collecting their search query[[/b]irrespective of your search engine whether na Google or duckduckgo][/b], urls, browsing habits and still collecting these data even if user switch to incognito mode... Xiaomi replies has been "we don't collect data without users consent" or "these top security companies licensed us"

Please note oh, a simple update or user access grant can fix this oh.. But no, xiaomi no gree. Instead them fall hands over the gains they are receiving from these data collection.

Is it that these evidence goes away if xiaomi just says "we don't collect users data without their consent"... Everyone just says "yep, if xiaomi says they don't. They don't"

Abi na this popular saying "love is blind" make ziaomi think a mi user is going to turn a blind eye to something this sensitive?
Who even dey give these companies mind sef... If there no xiaomi another good brand go dey and even still dey. Why take advantage of fans love?

Your perspective on this topic as a whole is very limited, so you honestly believe its about Xiaomi.
What are you even saying right now?
"your perspective" you think this an opinionated matter?
An issue of what you prefer or don't?
America and NASA are spying on the world is okay for Xiaomi to spy on its customers too?

The topic and deliberation is about xiaomi and users privacy being compromised to an unknown gain, which is obviously beneficial to xiaomi and whomever/whatever xiaomi chooses to sell these collected data to.

Now if none of this is your concern, but your concern is something that has been said but not being discussed here. Then it's you who has a perspective to this issue.

I am for an average xiaomi user who is unaware of what is being done behind their back. And evidence have been showed and verified with countless proof that these data thievery is being done by xiaomi.
This not US vs Huawei claims were Trump is all talk and no evidence.

This has a trail of evidence piling to the doorstep of xiaomi. If you are genuinely interested in getting informed concerning this matter then head on to twitter where its being verified by sources and individuals of great technological intelligence not some fabricated conspiracy you endow-ing yourself in to pass time. This is really happening.

The screenshot attached below is how every mi user will be feeling right now. Should you not know, this error is also available on the mint browser which can be installed on any phone from Google Playstore. Google is America, and the biggest Tech industry in the world. Since you are so big on imaginatives and ignores reasons and logic. Is Google not aware the mint browser is a potential malware snooping on users even in America?

Why is Google not speaking out seeing xiaomi is Chinese?
Well, feed on that.

Quick question dear sir.

A device for a gamer that is very powerful you won't use it to maximum strength, yet it performs your daily task without any hiccups and cost 40k
Or
A device not for gamers, with low strength, can only manage to handle some of your tasks, in contrast, if you want to use this device you always have to cut down your basic needs to suit the devices strength, this device costs 40k too.

Which would you pick?
