Stale news. Itsay Sagay, Sanusi, Wole
Soyinka and even OBJ have all in the
past spoken out and expressed alarm
over this group of people milking the
country dry in the name of legislating.
but they don't care.

This man think before you coment. When OBJ was d president, what did he do about it?. He even encourage it because of his selfish interest and now he is blabing because he is no longer in office.
And what has this got to do with GEJ, these has been thier before he came to office.

You could say that again.

dein77: And thats the most unfortunate aspect of this issue. How can the entire masses be so indifferent to issues to affect both their present and future lives? I have concluded long ago that until we are ready to wrest power from these crooks, we're doomed. These are issues that dont need docile and dead prayers.

Exactly. I don't believe in that pray for Nigeria nonsense. Prayer will not make Nigerians stand up for what is right. We can't simply pray our way to greener pastures. We need to use our legs, arms, and mind, and get ourselves there.

Our problems here are man-made. And so shall the solution be! The Almighty is ever merciful, but since Nigerians have continue to cooperate with their oppressors, in that they have refused to organise themselves for mass protests and acts of noncooperation, the masses will continue to suffer. There's what God will do for us, and there's what we must do for ourselves. The fact we have heads and brains in them confirm my theory....

Godogwu: I really don't think this post is true to the letter, but I'm not exactly writing it off. I know senators in Nigeria earn good money, heck Arthur Nzeribe is my relative. But when I see things like ; the president of china earning only $10,633 and the president of Zimbabwe earning just $18,000 annually I find that very preposterous, hence I don't believe the source of this info hook line and sinker. How come the source only detailed out the many allowances of just the Nigerian senators, how about the others? So there can be an actual comparison. Nevertheless, I would agree that GEJ earns more than Obama in general with allowances included, but I wouldnt say the same for a senator. Please in order for me to believe this, I need proof from a very reputable source.
who the hell are you and who cares if you believe or not,if you have the proof what the fhuck are you going to do with it? Lead us to war or what...m.o.ron

Have you seen any CPC or ACN legislator that refused his/share? If they are strong enough to determine who emerged as speaker and strong enough to start an impeachment campaign, why are they not strong enough to start a salary reduction or anti wastage campaign? Hmmm

How do you expect them to refuse it? when they're all thieves.
But there is a question that is always bothering my mind, which is: "if any of us criticizing these corrupt leaders of ours today, happened to be in their position one day, are we not going to do something worse that what they're into now?

I'm sure two or more of these thieves would have said more than we're saying now before they got into power, but couldn't resist the urge when they got there.

Paul John: A Nigerian senator earns more in Salary than Barack Obama of the US and David Cameron of the UK. I'll leave you to tell how much Nigerian president goes home with at the end of each month. An Indian lawmaker must work for at least 49 years to earn the annual salary of a Nigerian senator.

In the United States, while the minimum wage is $1,257 (N191, 667), a US lawmaker earns $15,080 (N2.3m) per month. In the United Kingdom, a lawmaker earns $8,686(N1.3m) monthly while the gross national minimum wage is $1,883 (N283, 333) per month. Also, Nigerian lawmakers earn higher than their counterparts in Sweden. With a monthly pay of $7,707 (N1.2m), a lawmaker in Sweden will need to work for over 12 years to equal what a Nigerian senator earn per annum.

The president of the United States takes home an anual salary of $400,000 (N64.156,0m), including a $50,000 expense allowance making the president the highest paid public servant in the US. The $400,000 includes everything and $350,000 out of it is taxable.

A senator's anual salary = over N182 million
multiply by 109 senators (don't forget the House of rep, ministers, ambassadors, ...)

In addition to the regular and legitimate salaries and allowances of over N17 million ($113,333) and N14.99 million ($99,933) which senators and reps were collecting yearly and the irregular allowance of estacodes, duty tours etc, they were also collecting over N192m ($1.28m) and N140m ($0.93m) respectively in illicit quarterly allocation which is not provided for by RMAFC.

Effectively, a Nigerian senator was taking home at least $1.40m ($1.28m quarterly allocations + $0.113m regular salaries and allowances) as against the $0.174m an American senator takes home hence a Nigeria senator earns at least 8 times as much as an American senator and more than 3 times the American president.

Whereas a Senator in the U.S earns N21, 146,000, the same as a member of the House of Representatives; a UK Member of Parliament earn £64,766 (N14, 896,180)

In other words, a Federal Legislator in Nigeria is paid more than double what a Member of British Parliament earns per annum.

Senate President David Mark alone takes N250 million quarterly or N83.33 million per month. Senate Deputy President Ike Ekweremadu gets N150 million per quarter or N50 million a month.

Mark and Ekweremadu earns in 4 months, six times what the UK Prime Minister earns in a year. David Cameron goes home with £190,000 per anum (N43, 700,000)

In a newspaper news article entitled ‘An Assembly for looting’ written by Musikilu Mojeed with Elor Nkereuwem, the authors rightly claimed that each of the 360 members of the House of Representatives were getting N35 million in cash money in quarterly allocation while each of the 109 Senators pockets N48 million each. These allocations have however been slashed by 20% to N27 million ($180,000) and N38 million ($253,333) respectively due to the 20% reduction requested by the late president.

God have mercy, infact those motherfucker politicians are heartless and shameless devil. How can a senator be taking such a huge amount of money as a monthly salary, when the FG could not even afford to pay level 8-16 govt workers their minimum wages. And we are here shouting unemployment, power failure, no good infrastructure, poor education standard. God forgive me, I think it has come to the era that we the youth of Nigeria need to rise up to fight for ourself by setting those greedy, money sucker and sit warmer senators, reps, governor and president ablaze inorder to bring about GOOD REFORMATION AND TRANSFORMATION in our beloved nation and also to make better place for our unborn generation.

a people really deserve the leaders they get, this and issues like these are what we should be fighting to see change, its not just the executives that need change, the legislation, judiciary, state governments and local governments need to be kept on their toes. we once argued during the fuel subsidy protest that the government was already in a corner during the strike and it was an opportunity for NLC, TUC and the civil societies who were our spokemen then to make demands on the president and the house of assembly, and one of the demand was that the house should cut down their salaries and bonuses, but lo and behold NLC, TUC and the civil societies involved settled for less. if the house says the impeachment of jonathan is in the interest of nigeria we should be able to send them a message that the drastic reduction of their salary and allowances not just by 20% but by as much as 80% is in the interest of nigeria too.
