Please stay on track, the governor made a very tribal statement, even though he tried to disguise it....
Molue drivers and owners driving rickety vehicles around lagos claiming lives on a daily basis did not get this statement..
People building poorly designed houses collapsing every now and then in lagos did to get this statement

If he comes down hard on those driving the rickety vehicles, people will accuse him of being an elitist.. The ban on motorcyles is still fresh and I know how people cursed him out for that, despite not being the only governor effected that policy... And what has people building poorly designed houses got to do with the topic?? undecided

Despite the more law abiding nature of people in London, you still see the government taking pains to mount cameras on the streets of the city....government always stands on guard to make sure that house that run foul pay the price...because human nature is to follow the shortest cut/ path of least resistance....

Lagos isn't London - London has a smaller population than Lagos, however, the IGR of London should be about 40 times that of Lagos... So, there's no basis for comparisons... If you want what's attainable in London, then be ready to pay the back-breaking taxes businesses pay in London...

It would have been better for the governor to come out and admit that the government has failed in its responsibilities, and then state what measures are to be up in place, or what punishment the heads of the monitoring agencies will get etc... Not to blame Igbos in a disguised manner...

How did he blame Igbos?? And how are you sure the culprits are Igbos??

Appearantly you and fashola don't know the purpose of regulatory agencies o just being mischievous and tribal

So, regulatory agencies are also responsible for allocating common sense to people?? How about people reading the precautions/health&safety on the pack of what they're selling to know what to do and what not to do with them??

So, the fact the the government failed means your actions as a citizen should be illegal, anti social with no personal and civic responsibility?

Is this what you are able to interprete from my post?

You seam to be turning around in circles..look at the topic of this post again!
Fashola is say the reason for the fire is the desire of Igbos to make money at all cost,
And I am saying that effective regulation woul have stop this, hence it is his fault.

Stop play useless games

How about common sense would have averted it??

You have no argument - greed is the bane of Nigeria!!!

Common sense would have averted it but no properly run government runs expecting everybody to have common sense, that's where regulatory agencies come in, for example, if the appropriate agencies had been up and doing, residential building would be strictly residential, and a fire in one building will not spread to 15 others.

Blaming individuals or groups for your failings as government is not helpful....

Many buildings have falling in lagos because of this, floods in lagos are as a result of the government and its agencies not being up and doing...

What else was in your posts apart from you arguing against the government just because they want you to act like a good citizen? Some of you are just corrupt and criminally minded to change your bad ways.

I think everyone should look at this article written below concerning the incident and see where the blame lies. It is surely in the hands of the government as attributed by the traders who own shops in that ojo giwa street. The nigerian police as usual is complacent in this case and it is high time the government is up and doing with their duties.

P.S I am not discounting the sharp and unlawful practices of Nigerian business men but the fault lies with the government for not putting things in check. Actually the fire incident was caused by teenagers throwing fireworks in the street and not directly from inside the warehouse. The link is given below and hope am not banned again by the spambot.

Yes, they can, many residential building are converted to commercial buildings outside of the master plans in VI, lagos and elsewhere in nigeria, and we see this everyday ...agencies of government fail, hence the government fails...but decides to blame others

That is why i was throwing the question to the poster who said we should exempt the agencies from this incident when they are rightly the ones to be blamed for failing to perform their duties. We are on the same boat and your observation is right on point because u will surely see shops littered all over the place without proper regulation from the government. They are only concerned about collecting taxes mainly without proper regulation and we also have to throw some blames to our greedy landlords too.

Pharoh: I mean most people in Nigeria stores petrol which is highly inflammable in residential areas for their generators for heavens sake.
Does dat make storing explosive products right?

Many business men seem to have an innate desire for wealth aggrandizement irrespective of consequences; not even their own lives can be valuable enough!

We know the country is tough, yes it is for everyone. However, to have the courage to store large quantities of explosive material in such an area is a direct offshoot from GREED! If they are not greedy, they would handle very manageable quantities and keep them in well contained enclosures, but that would cut down profit wouldn't it?

The government on their part should remind themselves that it takes more than the public achieve and maintain our position on the corruption-ranking list. Nigeria is extremely corrupt.

Fasola you are the governor and for a first in Lagos, help ensure ALL involved in this are brought to justice; from importers and customs officials, to warehouse owners. Then we can be sure you meant what you said. If not, its simply business as usual on the part of your government!

When they can kill their mothers for money, what on earth would a life mean to them. Lets see how this plays out.

I guess some felt this is referring to a tribe. It is no offence to think so. since we know some excelled in it(d0-or-die business) than others.
However, the quote above is open enough for anyone to know that the culprit is a greedy man, who could av been from any tribes.
I HOPE THE OWNER IMPORTER IS ALREADY ARRESTED. Investigation starts from there.
