babyosisi: the hausa people aren't as lazy as we assume heh? they're contributing to the economy without taking too much. isn't that something to be commended? see this topic for more discussion on the topic: https://www.nairaland.com/300410/nigeria-igr-internally-generated-revenue/1 I assume it's mostly from livestock and cement. |

the funniest thing is how ibo states seem to be most dependent on FG. this is the case where reality doesn't match words. most of them will be first to create threads upon threads on how they are being "ignored" by the FG. so that is their strategy hehn. they really hide it wellthough. who would have thought. the yoruba states that are least dependent on FG. hausa states seem to lean toward independence as well. hahaha irony of all ironies. States with relatively high performing indices included (lagos, sokoto) Ogun, Osun, Oyo, Borno, Ondo, FCTA, Jigawa, Kaduna, Kogi, Anambra, Kwara, Kano, Gombe, Edo, Abia and Rivers which recorded 10 per cent and above in their IGR. However, states such as Niger, Delta, Imo, Kebbi, Cross River, Zamfara, Enugu, Plateau, Nassarawa, Ebonyi, Bayelsa, Adamawa, Akwa Ibom, Katsina, Benue, Bauchi and Yobe were among those which relied heavily on federally allocated revenue for its fiscal operations in 2008. now you can tell the consumer states from the productive states. 2 Likes |

c.fours: Who talked about laziness? The figures here are not adding up mehn! http://economicconfidential.net/new/financial/facts-a-figures/932-federation-account-how-they-share-n727bn-in-february-2012- The link above shows you how much Sokoto collects from the quarterly Almajiri trips to Abuja, certainly no where near the least In the same vein they are generating the most money internally only second to Lagos state from their nama according to another story Yet it is the poorest state in Nigeria How is that possible? 1 Like |

dayokanu:But dude, those poverty rates across board tell an alarming story (which of course we are aware of as a result of anecdotal evidence such as high crime rates and poor people we see around, beggars etc). The US or Europe would've collapsed with an average poverty rate of 30%. I bet ya. |

So, what was el Rufai's motive for painting Anambra in the borrowed robes of poverty? There are those who feel that he saw the NBS figures and decided it offered the opportunity to "retaliate" on former Central Bank Governor, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo's assertion that poverty is "a northern phenomenon", as justified not just by the NBS's figures alone. He probably used Anambra to "fight back" but unfortunately for him, he failed to make his point stick, as his conclusions flew in the face of real life evidence. That's all I could pick from the article: it was nothing but an attack or refutation of el Rufai's claim. No single stat was provided; just a long ramble against el Rufai. Is this all you have? |

babyosisi: Now that all the various statistics have poured in did you see the "OPINION" written in bold across the top of your so called "statistics" article? http://allafrica.com/stories/201206180515.html?page=3 you should be quoting the facts and statistics. not the opinion articles, dear and why did you leave out the article author's name and date of publication. babyosisi: bring out his statistics not his opinions. who cares if he is igbo or not. he's from port harcourt. but why should that have any bearing? the guy has been discredited by several sources for being a corrupt swindler. He is eradicating poverty of his own pocket. I wonder how much bribe he collected from anambra. http://www.nigeriannewsservice.com/nns-news-archive/headlines/magnus-kpakol-and-the-keke-napep-scam http://www.vanguardngr.com/2012/02/reps-threaten-to-order-arrest-of-kpakol-over-n20bn-napep-fund/ |

FreeGlobe: LWKM......... THE STATISTICIAN GENERAL YEMI KALE!!!!!!!! So, in your mind of minds, this is what you could come up with? Because the DG is yoruba (or from a particular tribe) makes the presentation a useless one? We are actaully sitting on a time bomb, I swell. with people like you, boko haram is a child's play. |
Re: Sokoto, Katsina Top List Of Poor States... by Nobody: 6:50am On Jan 08, 2013 |
c.fours: When the figures make no sense? The same el rufai says Anambra folks own 75% of property in Abuja The same Anambra people that control most commerce in all major cities in Nigeria How many anambrarians collect salary from government? The same Anambra that is top 3 in education and literacy statistics in Nigeria is poorer than a state full of almajiris? The state that has all the major drug manufacturers, orange drugs etc ,major transporters, control the electronics market including the majorphone and computer dealers Zinox and co,spare parts. Well electronics is mainly Enugu state sha And textile is Abia The only state with an indeginous car manufacturing plant in the nation and now an oil state The state that has a university with the second largest applicants of all unis in Nigeria only second to UNILAG by a small margin Poverty guru in Naija says has the largest numbers of self made millionaires Heck I am not from anambra but give it to them mehn! That statistician in the original post is cooking up figures No way Niger state has lower poverty rate than Lagos what more Anambra |

logica: I actually laughed when I read this rambling with the "cool" emoticon at the end. It's like a mad-man wearing sunshades.FreeGlobe i think Logical is using some economics sense here which you do not understand. logical is so right in his analysis of per capital income which is the correct basis for determining poverty rate. do you know that Nigeria earn more than Ghana, but Nigerians are Poorer than Ghanaians. Definately you guys belong to different school of thought |
Re: Sokoto, Katsina Top List Of Poor States... by Clemzy16(m): 7:02am On Jan 08, 2013 |
It's funny how almost all the norther states are poor, while lagos which people claim to be the centre of economic activities in the country is not the richest state in Nigeria. |
