BBC Breaking News: Boko Haram Attack Leaves Over 12 Dead In Damboa, Nigeria

Suspected Islamist have opened fire in the north-eastern Nigerian town of Damboa, killing at least 12 people, residents and local officials say.

They say the attack occurred late on Monday, and that the gunmen apparently targeted hunters selling bush meat.

Strict Muslims are forbidden to eat bush meat from animals such as monkeys and pigs,

Militants from the Boko Haram Islamist group have staged frequent attacks in northern Nigeria in recent years.

(Reuters) - Suspected Islamist gunmen fired on residents of a market town in northeast Nigeria, killing 18 in one of their deadliest attacks for several weeks, a local government official said on Tuesday.

The attack late on Monday apparently targeted local hunters in Damboa who sell bush meat from animals such as monkeys and pigs, which strict Muslims are forbidden to eat, the local government leader told journalists.

"Gunmen suspected to be members of BH (Islamist sect Boko Haram) came to the town market and shot dead 13 local hunters on the spot while five others died from their injuries at the hospital," Alhaji Abba Ahmed said. "They came to the market in a Volkswagen Golf car, carried out the operation and left."

Yet people say we should negotiate with these ANIMALS. . . . . I say we bring our soldiers back from all international assignments and initiate a full scale assault on these guys. If this was happening anywhere else in Nigeria, I bet you will see Northern politicians calling for soldiers to be deployed to that region for combat.

Never knew selling bush meat is a sin against “Allah“, neither did I know that hunting is a sinful profession. I suppose now that killing innocent people including the hunters is a righteous/holy act that would get his(Allah‘s) approval. Smh!
