alnaijiri: It doesn't mean that $200bn in profit will be made. Most likely $200bn in the amount of goods going in and out. It is a tax haven, so many will set up factories there using foreign materials, foreign labour, and exported to foreign countries. Much of that $200bn will not have anything to do with Nigeria, but even if Nigeria gets a small fraction of it, it will be a great success. Kudos to the planners and to Gov Fashola. It still does not add up. Naija is worth less than $400nn and then $200bn ie 50% of Naija's worth would be realized through a fictional seaport in Epe. |

$200 Billion USD is an incredible and in all likely hood a stupendously false figure! See the GDP of the top 10 African countries below to understand how implausible that figure is. If it were true it would mean that only Lekki Port is Worth half of Nigeria (11 figures) so if you join the whole of Lagos the Eko politicians are telling us that Lagos is richer than the whole of Nigeria and producing more money than all the oil producing states(which Lagos is not one of) combined. I highly doubt that amount. But, it is a good idea they quickly complete this port and let the revenue start pouring into Lagos to speed up the infrastructural development and employment rate. |

NL illiterates at it again...lmao Obviously, they are talking about the value of cargo business moving through the port which is not unrealistic since it's going to be serving multiple countries. LA port alone moves goods worth over $236 billion a year and generates over $400 billion in annual revenue.. $200 Billion or not, this is very irrelevant, fact remains that this is set to be the largest and the most sophisticated port in west Africa. This is going to be the go to and the premier port serving all the west African coast. The huge revenue numbers for now is irrelevant, it's all about the immense economic potential for all involved. 1 Like |

Mogidi: The only thing worse than an illiterate is an unrepentant illiterate. Estimated macroeconomic impact of $361 billion but the actual projected revenue for the Nigerian Government is $200 billion. Using snarky GIFs to mask your inability to comprehend written English.... I must say you're the first slowpoke to try this on NL. |

eko ilee: NL illiterates at it again...lmao Before you start accusing others of illiteracy, think and read this part “In addition to bridging the capacity deficit, Lekki Port will have significant positive macroeconomic impact estimated at $361 billion over the entire concession period. It is expected to contribute more than USD 200 billion to the government exchequer while also creating close to 163,000 new jobs in the economy. Furthermore, Lekki Port will spur the economic development around the Lekki sub-region and on a wider perspective, the whole of Lagos State through rapid industrialization”, he added. The bold word meaning govt treasury, stop parading illiteracy around. Also, Port of LA does NOT have $400billion in Revenues rather, it's MILLIONS not BILLIONS... Re: Lekki Port To Generate $200 Billion + 163,000 Jobs by manny4life(m): 9:17pm On Apr 22, 2013 |
eko ilee: It is very relevant because A. A projection of revenues without a supposed time table is fictitious. You accuse the FG of same thing, so because it's state govt, we should give them a leeway right? B. From the wording "It is expected to contribute more than USD 200 billion to the government exchequer", it's assuming that a "projected $200 billion will be paid as gross receipts into the govt coffers. Unless if I missed the memo, no where in the article does it suggest that the supposedly $200billion was "value of cargo" rather "potential revenues". C. I do not care about whatever calculation they have before them, the world's largest ports do not bring in $1billion annually, let alone $200 billion even if it was over a concession period of time. So please, drop that silly line of argument of "calculation based upon volume of trade entering and living Nigeria" bullshitt. If it's like that, what stops Ibaka govt from saying we'll generate $1trillion over the concession period? Abeg leave matter jor... nonsense 3 Likes |

eko ilee:That is conjectural and I would be interested in how that project projected gets out of what is possible for such a region as the gulf of Guinea. This might just be the reason we failed to bring our projects into reality to commensurate with factual data. That is why the feasibility studies have to be in accordance with what is only possible. |
