KnegroDamus: please someone explain this to me? You DON'T become "friends". You ASK HER OUT. Have female friends, and have romantic interests. It's just semantics and a misuse of words. A female friend is someone you were likely not all that interested in. Someone you mistakingly one day find out that she does in fact make sense and then you could end the matter with her. You do not start out with a girl you are ALREADY interested in trying to make her a "female friend". You go through the usual "friendship building" process, but with a different and well understood purpose by both parties. There is a reason it's called girl-friend and boy-friend.
