smh...all these ND and HND peeps aren't hard to spot.they can't even maintain d validity of an argument, and this is one of the reasons why they can't be at par with a real degree holder (by saying real,I mean sum1 dat actually worked hard to get d degree and not 1 of those clowns that pay their way through school). I wonder why sum1 would be comparing sum1 dat studied in PTI wif sum1 that has a degree in dsame field.most university courses are of academic nature.when talking about PTI,its a specialised institution and almost all their courses are professional in nature. its like comparing sum1 wif ACCA and a B.sc Accountant. 1 is professional, one is academic. 1 will give u professionals that are more competent in companies world wide while 1 will give u graduates that are better in terms of research and discoveries. its like comparing an Executive MBA holder wif sum1 wif M.sc Business admin.

ain't it obvious that an oil company would benefit more from sum1 wif PTI diploma, that's more practical?...but when it comes to scientific research and leadership in dsame field, who on earth would call on a PTI diploma holder? grin

Kachisbarbie: I don't support the discrimination, i pity the poly graduates a lot - but my own problem be say...why are poly graduates somehow gullible and local? Their package dey tire me, the way they talk, even if there is something in their head, dia packaging always comes out wrong.

There is usually nothing in their head. Trust me I know.

They are very difficult to manage, you have to micro-manage then all the time. Poly guys have no initiative.
Though they are very good at taking orders.

the dichotomy should end now.. polytechnic students are far better than university students, I attended the best polytechnic in Nigeria. Most Yabatech students in unilag are 1st class students. The person that was the best graduating student 3 years ago was an upper credit graduate in yabatech.. so what's the point??... if not for birds and booze I should be in the UK anyway.. angry

obayaya: Universities and polytechnics are 2 different kinda institutions. With 2 different training modules, Awarding 2 different kind of certificates to 2 different kind of graduates for satisfaction of 2 different kind of Job Market.

The truth is that, Polytechnics is the pinnacle of Technical education in Nigeria.

All these brouhaha is due to the facts that there are no job opportunities. little or no companies and firms to absorb the teeming number of graduates from both the universities and polytechnic. Creating a fierce competition for the little employment opportunities out there.

In the Oil and Gas industry, HND holders are preferred on the Rigs.

Word!

@ bolded: to be managed by a B.Sc. holder who earns like five times what HNDs earn and with prospects of making it to top management.

HND and Bsc are not equal anywhere in the world but in some countries they're more equal than others, if you get my drift.

I scored 270 in 2010 and scored 68 in unilag postume, but was not offered admission buh scored 67 in yabatech and was offered. Since its on merit and not the sham in unilag... so what's it about polytechnic students.. though students of state n private polytechnics are a disgrace to humanity

Everybody would claim that his/her cert is the best. But the fact remains, cert doesn't make you better than a craftsman. How you build yourself is what matters. A poly graduate could be better than a uni graduate, that is just individual differences. A poly graduate can teach a uni student and vice versa, nothing is wrong with that. For crying out loud, Are B.Tech and B.Sc in Chemistry, mathematics etc not the same? After all, some one has to spend minimum of 5yrs to obtain B.Tech while B.sc requires 4yrs. Of course, because of additional one year, B.Tech suppose to be ranked higher than B.Sc. but it is not so. Therefore, cert is cert but there are individual differences. Stop the discrimination and face reality. I bagged B.Tech and now M.Sc. In view.

Weselion: Is 150 an abysmal low mark? Remember that uni's are now 180. Universities students spend 4 years in school, polytechnic students spend more than that with serious emphasis on praticals. Some Unilag students come to my school for assistance in projects and assignments
Mk dia cut off equal too

I cannot just stop laughing. i am an HND holder. but its obviously not equal and can never equal to a BSC. a technologist is diffferent from an engineer .. poly breeds technologist while unit breeds engineers. chikeena!!!!!!

I had attended both.... I had an OND in the polytechnic and BSC at the University, auchi poly and UNN respectively.

here is my judgment, I made distinction at the polytechnic and first class in the University, though yet to graduate. students should be comparing themselves not the schools and their mode of entry. JAMB and POST UME is dam corrupt!! quote me anywhere.

the only way you can be sure you are better than the polytechnic students is to engage them in an intellectual battle.

MOST of the poly students that go into the University with DE (less competitive and currupt) usually becomes the HEAD of their class... and subsequently graduate with first class.

I'm not the best student in my poly, one girl like that kept dusting me, but here in the University they are no where close to where I am.

# draw your own conclusion and stop making a better person feel inferior.

He can't feel you. Not with the way you are looking down on members of your institution who are in other department.
How can you even want equality when you don't feel equal to students in your institution.

Where were universities?

In the quote is a reason why they are not yet equal.

SAPEDRO:

Why must they be equal? that would be so unfair, 80% Of those in in polytechnics are those who couldn't make it into the university not their fault though, maybe cos of insufficient mental and intellectual resources. go and check this year's. utme statistics and see how people have changed from universities to polytechnics after checking their results. the university is a much higher place. and this people complaining were not forced to go to the polytechnic in the first place, but like i said earlier, maybe they couldn't make it.

I can see u have d "intellectual resources". SMH. Siddon dia make pant dey wear u o!
