It's 2 02am here, moody and annoyed for no reason, I guess today hasn't been productive as I want it to be. It's been a very busy summer for me, involved in so many things, pressure here and there.... I have not even been answering calls for few days. Yea! That is how busy it can get, I saw it coming hence the long post I did last time. I really wish I can post here as fast as I can, but y'all should just please bear with me, I have to make ends meet, work on the future .. Wife go chop, pikin self go chop .. Lol ...The new session is coming, I get scared whenever I remember that .. House contracts are suppose to be renewed, of course it will be inflated, School fees beckoning, lots of needs. It's never easy but it's sure worth it. Sometimes, I get so pressured that I abandon everything, find a good movie, remain in my bed and become unresponsive to calls/texts or knock on doors...I hope for more strength to type more and more though .. It's an assignment that must be accomplished .. So I appreciate the pressure coming from y'all About the complaints of this diary being light and empty compared to the first one, y'all need to understand that It's never going to be easy starting to write those things again, i didn't copy them from a book .. They all came from my head down to the forum, hence some typos... It's actually my fault for not backing it up though .. I'm not giving excuse to justify it, but I just need you to bear with me and understand the situation. I will try to keep up, stay calm, and write it as it comes to my head. Please ignore some grammars and typos. Here we go, I was lamost procastinating posting on here as my mood was nothing to write home about, I decided to get a companion while I do the typing and so far so good it's working... Don't forget it's summer here ... what is the companion? That is a one million dollar question .. The second semester ended on the Island, though I have failed some course that I'm yet to retake, I still feel like I'm enroute to year two, I needed to count down, truth be told, I'm out of schedule maybe not out of the creator's schedule though. The semester break was short, that was my first... the winter was going crazy, it gets dark by 5pm, we already became pros in not using the room heater, people come into our room and they wonder how we cope, some don't even like coming .. hehehe ..Money was still a problem, it's still a problem now though I try to make end's meet, through HIS help. Still the short semester break, my contract is going to expire during that semester, We kept looking for a way out, we don't want to renew contract as it has knocked out some of our paroles... How come? It was built like an hostel,it's a building for Nigerians alone, over 40 rooms, they sometimes call it black embassy, before we came, it has already been tagged as the home of gossips, side talks. 90% of the usual tales of 'there is no girl in cyprus' came from the inhabitant of this black embassy. I was hustling to have someone to help my ministry, definitely not in the Turkish/White community, after all Woman na woman..After lots of hustling here and there, I started talking with someone, the whole thing was as long as Arsenal transfer negotiation, I was hopng and praying for a positive, the demand for girls here is high afterall we have limited numbers that are available. This lady seems to be playing along, God must have been smiling at me from heaven to have been able to get along with her. We kept hanging out, there was a huge turn around when she I told her where I was living, the wind of the black embassy kept blowing the parole till it got blown off finally. Back to square zero, I can't continue like this, man shall not live by bread alone, even if it's with ground nut.. Half bread is better than puff puff... Shortly after the black out, I met another, she stuies in EMU, we were getting along fine, She's Camerounian, met couple of time, it's getting interesting. She asked me for some financial help, I couldn't live up to it, I don chop? She later left the country to Italy. At this time, I stopped searching... I was angry with myself, I forgot what my dad told me 'Chase money and Girls will run after you, Chase Girls money will run from you' (No offense intended to the ladies) I stopped, but I vowed to live the goddam house when my contract expires,at least I used a year.. That is okay! No hope f where next to go to, no hope of money, I know limited people to help me search for vacant houses, it's not even the time of the year where there are vacant houses.. It's just the spring break. Did I tell you I made some pakistani friends? Yea, We are in the same department, we live close, they are better with calculations but their English was bad, so it's tit for tat.. We sometimes hangout, talk about so many things, tell them some bad stuffs , those things excites them, they are more religious than I am obviously.... We became good friends but not very close as a result of some little fear like .. What iif they just stab me with a knife suddenly? What if this guys just poison me? What if they are planning to bomb this Island? Some terrorist attacks? Some times I reply myself that .. what do I have that makes me think they will kill me or hurt me? Some of my Nigerian peeps even warn me against moving with them, they will ask me if I don't watch Aljazerra or CNN to see what a typical pakistani looks like. Ignorance is bliss! I can authoritatively say that today that those guys are one of the sweetes and open minded people I ever meet on the Island, not even any Nigerian I've meet is as clean minded as those guys, not even the so called religious peeps.. .. (No offence, it's just my opinion and observation). My roomie already had a stable relationship, they haven't meet but the skype every night, skype till morning, the love is in the air. I was back to my lonely life, I stopped looking for one! Well, he's enjoying the result of his summer hustle. They really loved each other, she arranged for a way to meet, she decided to visit him on the Island, wow! what can we do? he got some money, got an holiday Inn in the city.. They met, stayed together, came visiting few times, I liked her! She is cool and nice... She even complained of why my friend had to take her to the city, she would have simply lived here, in the small room, in the building that was looking almost like the police barack.. Not as worst as that though. She left after few weeks, she loved the sun even during the winter, or maybe she was really in love or she enjoyed him . She planed coming again! This time around for a longer period of time maybe 3 weeks. Coincidentally, I met someone too and we talk all night everyday, this came naturally.. I didn't do the usual hustling and impression stuffs. She is a student too, a Nigerian. The whole thing was blossoming. We met couple of time too .. I liked her! hmmnnn DO I like her because I wanted someone at all cost or I liked her naturally? Those are questions my roomie kept asking me.. I was confused too I don't know what was going on. She came to the usual barack, she doesn't look like she cares about it, our room was rough, I couldn't afford to buy her some lunch, she did for her self and offered me some to eat too .. I declined though I would have loved to, The lunch came from a special restuarant, maybe a dream restaurant for people like us, considering our pocket... She went back to her school.. I kept talking about her to my friend, he wasn't reallly amazed but I kept telling him it was too good to be true. They both arrange to come pay a longer visit the same time, We live in just a room apartment, what are we goingg to do? we have limited money, we can't even afford to live in the most expensive apartment, it will noot be written on ourcertificate that we lived in the most expensive apartment.. we kept searching, we wanted a house with a monthly payment plan.. It's not common in this part of the country, I needed to stay close to school coonsidering my course. We were really searching, nobdy was offering any help. We need a bigger house but we have limited funds. My Pakistani friend offered us their flat, they will be moving out to a bigger apartment, we kept disturbing them and we literarily pursued them out of the house, paid to the landlord that same day and we moved in that same day. We moved in from the black embassy to an improvised flat, it was actually converted from a shop on the road to a flat, it was horrible, but cheap, we did some cosmetic work, It helped a bit.... Our moving in was funny .. The former house to the new house was about two kilometres, we never used a taxi or a moving company to move our stuffs.. we rolled and carried the luggages around 2am with our hand and legs, it took us about 2 hours... The morning came and no body had an idea that we moved out already. This lovely ladies in our life came, it was february 13th, they really didn't care about the way the new house looked, we couldn't even get a bed yet, we just got our mattrass on the floor. Okay, Let's say the white people loves and don't care about those material things, how about the black lady here? this must be adream consideirng what I passed through before I got to this stage! We had the best vacation ever, the schooled resumed after few weeks. That black lady is still the missus till today, it's almost 2 years! My eyes are closing, I need to get some sleep... I will tell you my ordeal with my Instructor as well as how I got to pay my fees in the morning! Thank you for the patience, I'm really indebted.. This will go a long way in helping me in future. Thank you once again! and please note, I didn't read this again to correct the necessary typos and grammatical errors. .. Please correct it in your heart as you are reading. tesekuller! Apparently, there is no way I can keep all my daily assignment going as long as Missus is around/preparing for her summer vacation. I'm updating with my phone in the Airport shuttle taking me back home, I just can't wait to keep the journal going. I'm deeply sorry for making y'all wait, I need to be fast enough so as to make it a daily update of my activities, special thanks to all of the contributors, the viewers as well as the anonymous followers.... Y'all makes me feel like Chinua Achebe of blessed memory, though I'm not worthy to lace his shoe. Back to the story, the short holiday was our best ever, it was fun all the way, I was already coming out of my shell and trying to enjoy myself as much as I can with the aid of my ever ready roomie, now it's a flat mate though we mostly hide from peeps so as not to be mocked about the quality of house we living, we just allowed that to get into our head, it doesn't matter though, our missus weren't complaining, it's cheap, monthly payment plan, privacy, and some distance from the usual black community. What else do we want? Let me tell you a secret, no matter how sleep addicted you are, you can never sleep in the house in the afternoon, once it's 8 am you must wake up by force,... I barely go to class late. It was located in the midst of a Car repair zone - it's like a government reserved zone for repair of cars for that local government (it's called sanayi) the noise is much than what comes from set of locomotives. Well it may be as a result of the fact that out ear drums was no longer used to noise. Trust me, it's he'll in that house during the day, still the missus aren't complaining and it helps cover our ass financially... February 14 was the first party for ourselves, by ourselves and exclusively by ourselves. It was my friends girlfriend now wife's birthday, we had fun, and I kept wondering how life will be if we are lot richer! Brokenness no good oo... Well we're student so it's normal if we find it hard with money. Did I tell you the birthday was all sponsored by her? The spring break was over, we all had to go back to our default mood, she flew back, I got serious with classroom, stopped hanging out or seeing my missus too, my friend started his ever troubling thesis too. My hunger ordeal for that semester started the first few week of the semester when I planned to transfer some fund into my tuition account, and the bank guy emptied my account to the school account, not that it will clear my debt, I still remained a debtor but why keep me pennyless and still remain a debtor, things weren't the same till the end of the semester! I kept complaining to everybody I met through out that week with hope of some financial bail out, for where? People ain't EU or UN here, the bes they could do is sympathise with you, join you to abuse the bank dude, and move ahead shortly after. Nobody cares about you here, it's you and your head! Someone told me when I was a newbie that nobody will feed you continuously for 3 or 4 days the 4th day they may start giving you attitude. Someone told me his experience of not having kurus (that is our cents) to make photocopy, I felt he was exaggerating but I felt it that semester. This girl literally sponsored us through that short break, I can't ask her for money, I can't and I won't even ever ask her for money directly. I still felt indebted to her. I called peeps at home for some financial help( even if it's 3000) for where? Nobody respond, they all have this mentality of you are abroad! Two of my cousins helped after two weeks though. I just got part of my tuition paid, I won't call home for some financial help when I know I still have to.find a way for my monthly rent!classes was going but somewhat slow, ekmek became my fave food. I was even lucky, My blood didn't got drained by the ekmek like a friend of mine, I use to have a glass of mayonnaise and ekmek for the whole day. Now I'm beginning to see sufferness, okay even if it's farm work give us let's do for few days so as to make ends meet! It's winter nobody is working is the song we keep hearing.. I'm almost home, I'm holding here for now, Im thinking of adding some pictures, it's a faceless forum but I really think spicing it up with pictures will make it nice, also please don't forget it's a diary so if it's looking more like a tragic story, it's just what life is all about some ups and downs... Before we get to that part, please put in mind that I'm writing this journal with all smile on my face remembering those ordeals! 12 Likes |

mctolspell: On our way to the school, I asked so many questions from the school rep picking me, the question ranges from why is this place so cold and it doesn't snow to what is the level of survival. So many sensible and not too sensible questions, not my fault, I be yeni ogrenci, I can be very inquisitive as well. Another international office guy took me to the school dorm, those guys helped me a lot though, I checked in, atleast I have three days to decide if I will be opting for the school accommodation. As y'all know, I'm on budget and it won't even cover my accomodation for a semester. The room heater helped me, I slept off with my shoes as well as lot of jackets, it was short but nice. A knock on my door made me realize it's 10 am in the morning, it's time to go to the offices for registration said by someone I met with the international office guy last night. I didn't take my bath, the hot water was still like a cold water to me. If you are wondering why it's that cold, It was early March and it was very cold that year on the Island, subsequent one's haven't been very cold though or maybe I got used to it. then was not cold, you haven't experienced the winter period when you have to wear upto 5 jackets. you never see anything, even lecturers would thank you for attending classes during this period. 2 Likes |

mctolspell: Academics! Oh! I wish I can type a little faster and much, damn! those hacker's that brought down Nairaland. It sucks to type those things I remember I have done before, it will not make this journal as interesting as I will like. what can a man do? Life goes on... I'm studying Civil Engineering, the little Africans that I met here all belong to the International Relations class. They often advise me to have a change of course before I move too far, some weren't advising but were saying to themselves that he's a new student, when he learns, he will change. Could it be that our academics is that bad in Nigeria or it's extremely difficult? lol laughing in turkish |

Chai! I guess I should be conferred a new honor, the chief procastinator of the year, I've actually been busy and it's been difficult for me to keep up, no matter how much I try. I actually slept off with my fingers on my keyboard the other night.. I woke up with the computer on the ground, and everything scattered. That is how bad I can be when I sleep, I act like a drunkard when I sleep! Activities too much, why won't I? Appreciation to the contributors, Jah bless y'all abundantly. Where did I stop? My third semester ordeal! Yea, I survived it, but I actually begged even my certified enemies money. Some will promise but never fulfill, some will even ask you why you are not working? Is there no jobs or you are just lazy? How many people will listen to the explanation of you having to be in the library for hours after class? how many people gives a hoot about you studying a demanding course? Nobody really cares except your parent, it's you and your life. some will even advice you of coming back home if you know you made a wrong step, I still never lost hope. I have a cousin in the states, He got his student visa almost during the time I was trying to get mine to the states, he wasn't really connecting with us back home. I contacted him when I got here, we sometimes exchange greeting through the social messaging but nothing more. I gave him my song of lamentation during my economic crisis, and he strongly advised me to move ahead, he wanted me to come to the states, he gave me a school and told me to contact them. I told myself 'come you haven't even eaten, can't even pay my school fees well here, will I be going to the states to constitute nuisance?' I got here and I knew life outside the shores of Nigeria especially as an international student is never easy. My cousin never knew I heard the story of how his school was threatening him to send his name to the homeland office because he stopped registering. My uncle who is in the states kept telling us to be patient as its not that rosy as we think outside the shores of the country, we rarely believe him as he is somewhat old fashioned though. He eventually bailed me out during my semester finals, I paid my fees balance and I wrote my exam gallantly, it was one of my best semesters. I passed all of my courses, though the grade point wasn't that great. I passed my Calculus 2 as well as other courses but of course, It wasn't with an A and don't forget the lower your grade in a course the flatter your grade point. The professor was still the power point man, some of my mate decided not to take it that semester but I did, because I wasn't sure of what and who the next professor will be .. They already wrote to the directorate and they were xpecting changes.. Well, there was changes because the professor was changed. They told me the new one was good but very strict, lots of course work, homework and the likes... I was lucky I scaled through. I will never see that course again till I die.. I know you will be wondering why I say that .. I already passed the Differential Equation (advanced part of it). I will get there too ...My third semester lead to another summer break. 2 Likes |
Re: Diary Of An International Student, North Cyprus (thread Reopened) by Nobody: 3:39am On Jul 22, 2014 |
That means Within 18 month I experienced two summers ... That is one of the interesting thing about being an irregular student, do you know your course schedule will be crazy and ifferent from others, your first semester will be others second semester and their second emester will be your first semester.. seems confusing right? yea! Everything about me is sometimes confusing, I get confused sometimes too .. But wait! Did I tell you about how my first December was? That was my second semester, barely a year in the country. Contrary to the weeks break before the End of the Year festivity in Nigeria, the frequent parties, jollification, socializing, eating and drinking cos it's Christmas, it's a different ball game here in the country, It helped me rediscover myself though, Now listen how it went... Don't forget I live in the Suburb part of the country, there is hardly a break for Christmas, the school is still in session, most times International student are given a day or two break or Christmas and the New year is a general break for everybody, the country is a secular country, more secular than Nigeria self... Atleast there constitution is secular, but the religion is predominantly Islam, not like they even practice the Islam, their Islamic festivals are rarely celebrated or observed. That is how secular and lackadaisical they can be about religion, so when the school doesn't give break for Christmas, you should understand. Of course there are more preference for Islam though but I'm sure not complaining, religion will never cause hate in my heart against another, not for me, not in this world again. I woke up sad and depressed on Christmas day because I barely have any money with me, not even good food to eat something special at least to mark the "so called birth of Christ",(He was actually born October,I guess... but man gat celebrate something). No money, No food, No party, No feeling like it's Christmas, else the winter is confining you to your bed...I was still living in the black embassy, they woke me up with some bang on my door... people already started geting drunk by 8am. Well, we all need some spirit in the system to have the cold taken care of..I got up from bed, got a cup and had little share of my own spirit. I received some Merry Christmas call from families and that was all, I did ask my dad for some money, all in the spirit of christmas that I wasn't celebrating. There is a class that evening, but I was excused not to go, by virtue of being an international student, I was already trying to get some alcohol, Sometimes you just drink, not because you want to get drunk but because you are depressed.. (depression here is on the high scale my brother), I wasn't celebrating any christ birth that day, It was more like drinking to forget your sorrow. After some hours, someone gave us the hint that some people are cooking in mass so as to feed some of us, we decided to join the train, never been to the house before, they are couple with a kid, Nigerian of course. They cooked, I eat, had some red wine. It was past noon and I was already tipsy. I have to go to this Class as it's the last class of the semester, Exam is just days after the new year. I summoned determination, my legs were failing me but I instited, It wasn't far to the school... I got to the class late, walked in majestically. I sat down, the usual power point again, I was hearing voices in my head, like jump up, tell the this man to his face that he is full of bull crap for teaching Mathematics with a slide, one part of my head was still correct, it was was correcting me.My breath was oozing alcohol, yea! who cares? is it not the birthday of our lord Jesus? abi Jesus na your own papa ni? That is what will be running through your head after some dose of alcohol. Those Turkish guys knew something was wrong,I couldn't stay in the class for long, about 30 minute later, I left the class stagerring out. Where will I go now ooo?? I can't go home, it's boring.. I need to stop this crazy act, but where can I go... I went back to my usual spot for the day.. Got more food (some banku), it killed the alcohol a bit and I was off to a small parlor party. The day was spent in a very weird way, unplanned but somewhat interesting.. Thanks to those volunteer. I woke up the next day with hangover, of kes.. It will surely come.. It was a public holiday (Boxing day) I wouldn't have attend class even if it wasn't ... The days came fast and we almost approaching new year. I met my 'Missus' officially on the new year eve 31st of December, got back to my city late, saw some people drinking... collected some and I was almost drunk again before the start of the new year! I needed it... Nobody want to sit at a corner thinking about home and wondering why you have to go through the torture here with a blur future (though it's sure going to be a bright one but that day the future can only look blurr), but why you drinking, you need to remember to keep up with your note as final semester exam is just few days. It's 5 37am here, enough of the flashback... will continue on my third semester exam soon... and the pictures.. I'm contemplating on how to blur the faces before people or blogs start putting it up as the guy that suffered in Cyprus, some may even put memes.. I ever wan popular.. Lol .. Good Morning beautinfuls! 7 Likes |
