Emmaesty: Liar! Liar!! Liar!!! Those students there were true students of OOU. The protest had been planned long before Amosun decided to play politics and reduce the school fees. He promised to reduce the school fees by 50% in 2011 if he were elected, he got elected and reduced it by 10%(What happened to the remaining 40%??). Now, he said he has reduced it by 30% and it will be implemented by next year(2015), probably because he wants votes. Please tell me, does he think we are fools? If he does not implement it this year, then AMOSUN MUST GO #SaveOOU #Oke-Imosan2014 #ReduceOurFees
Thank you very much my guy.... #reduceourfees.

Do you justify aggressive public protest over consultation or peaceful protest to make clear your point.

Fine he promised 50% reduction but only makes 10% reduction (no protest) two years later reduce further between 30-60% (not knowing the percentage of OOU), a wise intelligent and educated fellow should first appreciate/accept then further makes his opinions and acceptance conditions known through dialogue and consultations as far as the cause of protest can be justify, the first step of action is totally not uncalled for.
Like other students, u may make appreciateful protest to the state govt and deliver a letter appreciating the kind gestures first then strongly emphasing your conditions of acceptability supported by public pronouncement.
Yoruba says "a ko s'apo la n ko owo" first accept a good gesture before demanding for more.

they have been consulting the governor 2months before now and nothing is happening, not until they gave 7days ultimatum. He made announcement of the reduction before the ultimatum elapse but only for reduction to take effect frm next session. The issue now is that almost all student haven't pay this session fee.

[quote author=Samoranopapa]OOU Abeokuta Protest Update.....
Four injured as students clash in Ogun
Four students were injured on Thursday as
two factions of students from various
state-owned tertiary institutions clashed in
Abeokuta over the recent reduction of
school fees announced by the state
government on Tuesday.
The fracas happened around Federal
Secretariat, Oke Mosan, about 100 metres
away from the governor’s office.
The students who were from Olabisi
Onabanjo University, Ago Iwoye, Tai Solarin
University of Education, Ijagun, Moshood
Abiola Polytechnic, Abeokuta, Gateway
Polytechnic, Igbesa, and other ICT
polytechnics in the state broke into two
factions, and they engaged each other in
physical assault.
The pro-Amosun faction had staged a
solidarity march from Kuto Roundabout to
the governor’s office at Oke Mosan to
thank him for reducing the school fees,
which was 61 per cent accross board.
This faction, was received at the arcade
ground by the state commissioner for
education, Mr. Olusegun Odubela, deputy
speaker of the state House of Assembly, Mr.
Tola Banjo and Special Assistant to the
governor on Student affairs, Mr. Olusegun
Clement.
They were armed with placards which
eulogised the governor, Senator Ibikunle
Amosun.
Odubela, who also eulogised the students
for appreciating Senator Ibikunle
Amosun’s gesture, advised them to take
their studies seriously, and that he would
deliver their message to the governor who
was in Abuja.
But the second faction did not see
anything good in the fee reduction, as they
saw it more as a mere ‘political gimmick’.
This faction led by the Students Union
Government President, Olabisi Onabanjo
University, Ago Iwoye, Olusegun Ifade,
argued that the said fee reduction should
have taken effect from 2013/2014 session,
and not the 2014/2015 session
announced by the state government.
This faction had earlier addressed
journalists at Iwe Irohin House, Oke Ilewo
in Abeokuta.
Ifade said they had made demand for fee
reduction since 2011,which the governor
failed to yield to.
The students leader vehemently opposed
the gesture, arguing it was greek gift
coming at a wrong time, “because election
is fast approaching.”
Some of the students were armed with
placards with various inscriptions, some of
which read: ‘No reduction in 2013/2014,
no vote’,’Amosun reduce our school
fees’,’SIA must obey now’,and ‘Bring down
our fees.’
They also demanded among others further
reduction of the fees, as they argued that
any fee above N50,000 was still too high.
The students also headed for the
governor’s office, and on the way they ran
into the other faction, where a free-for-all
ensued.
After the dust settled, four of the students
had been injured, as they were said to
have hurled stones and other dangerous
objects at one another.
This led to a gridlock along the Oke Mosan-
Kuto axis for some hours.

He made announcement of the reduction before the ultimatum elapse but only for reduction to take effect frm next session. The issue now is that almost all student haven't pay this session fee.

Thank you for this your piece of information, the announcement was due to student consultation and 7 days ultimatium against the backdrop of ppl insulating that the govt made the reduction because of 2015 election. In a candidate opinion (though I don't know whether you are in first or second semester), if the announcement was made during a session (not before the start of academic session) normally it will be assumed to take effect from the next session because some percentage of students will have paid said money. Again normally tuition fees were suppose to be paid by all students maximum of three weeks after resumption so logically considerable amount of students have yet to pat their fees (although may be due to economical conditions of the country, but does not remove the fact that) should not be part of the point for protest.

In a managerial view, it will be practically difficult to return the excess of overpaid tutions to students that had already paid, the fight of enforcing the start of reduction in fee in the current academic session would have been an easy point if no student has paid the tuition fee as at the announcement . But as it is been now, better thing is only to try in negotiating because you (I mean the students) has betrayed yourself by some people paying the fees while negotiation is ongoing and not attributing some illogically conclusion (as some ppl post on this thread) against the government of political game, though this might be indirect motive yet to be established but with your piece of information and press statements drag election motive towards this very issue is illogical although may be sound conclusion.

Mind you, the current session you are saying was 2013/2014, which in normal academic calender should had end June/July 2014 if not for strikes and internal crises, while the govt says 2014/2015 which literaly should begin next month/early October 2014. Then if you people are agitating for session that suppose to had ended, then .........

U're not a student of OOU so u know nothing. Consultations and dialogue has been on-going for 2 months(any OOUite can corrobate this) and all our pleas for reduction of our fees fell on deaf ears. Suddenly he decides to reduce it but the reduction will take place next year. Why not this year? It's all propaganda!!!! OOUites will not succumb. By the way, OOUites went to Abeokuta for a PEACEFUL protest but were attacked by thugs from Mapoly(i stand to be corrected). We have 4 students currently injured and many more are still there. OOUites shall be victorious #LongLiveOOU #Oke-Imosan2014

OOU PROTEST OUTCOME!!!
Thank God for a save trip back to ago from abeokuta...... The
end is always the Beginning.
Note, no student was killed in the cause of the 2-days protest
but a lot of students sustained injuries.
Gov. Amosun said he was not aware that OOU still in first
semester in 2013/2014 session, he pleaded that we give him
One week, so that the committee he set up can look into the
reduction of school fees and the reduction taken effect from
this session, OOUites also stood that ground that if after the
expiration of d one week, no positive response then Gov
Amosun should be expecting all OOUites back to Oke-mosan
for continuation of our protest until our demand are granted
and the new school fees takes effect from this session.
The SUG president also announced in the presence of the
Governor that all OOUites should pend/stop payment of
school fees until our demand are met.
All arrested students has been released.
Aluta continua, victoria ascerta
