SeaGold: During my primary school days in a remote community in IMO state, I usually come "middle" of the class in my report card until my dad was transferred to Ogoja in cross River state and I went with him. I was again registered in a primary school to continue Form 4. I was so shy and intimidated among my school mates because I couldn't speak the English language then. Infact my classmates make jokes of me with their "Oyibo" language since my lingua franca is the IbO language.

What surprised everyone was that in my first term, first examination I took first without speaking the English language. My form teacher was so surprise she began monitoring me to see who writes tests and examination for me until I prove her wrong by coming top in her class and I continued till I left for secondary education.

In eastern Nigeria, being brilliant is a tough contest among pupils and students

Exactly. You captured it all. Education in the east is very tough competiton. I went to secondary school(GSSO Owerri) and university(UNN Enugu) in the east and it was all tough competition all the way, with everyone competing to outdo the others and the antics involved and so on.

new2020: You can only hold a people temporarily against their WILL. The Igbos have been held down in this country for too long; a war that delayed their divine emergence as the true face of Nigeria, a people who were carved the smallest land area of all regions in Nigeria with calculated intent to marginalize and stifle their divine dominance and leadership. In all, they accepted it in good faith. In less than 45 yrs, coming out of the war with virtually nothing, they have become the true face of Nigeria and lead in all strata of human achievement....individual wealth, education, business, number of technocrats in government and agencies, pageants, e.t.c. Coming from a Calabar man, you Igbos are the light of Nigeria, we fought and bled with you people during the war because we know that a country led by the Igbos, will bring about a new dawn in Africa. It's evident no region is a match to them. In the words of moses I say...let my people go! It's time to let the Igbos assume their divine position to lead this nation!

Congratulations to all SE and SS states!

^^^Thank you my brother! smiley

Igbos have always considered Efik/Ibibio/Annang as not only agbata-obi but indeed our equals and brothers in this shithole of a country!

eaglechild: What could be responsible for the falling standard of education in the SW.

Or is it that the SE is just taking its rightful place?

Just look at Ebonyi state, some years back it was classified as educationally disadvantaged.

But just within a space of about 5 years it has leaped into 11th position.

Anambra is widening the gap.

What are other regions doing wrong?

education isn't 'falling' in the SW.

The SW lied to everyone and started saying they were educated when they weren't. Started saying they have free education when they don't, and started telling everyone Ekiti was the 'brain box' of Nigeria when it was the most educationally disadvantaged state in their region. They believe is just saying things instead of making it happen.

They then turned around and tried to use their gossip economics to say igbos were uneducated, that they were just into trading spare parts etc etc. Still for the past 10 years Igbos have dominated JAMB, WAEC, and NECO by significant and staggering margins. Even Lagos with all of it's federal built modernity can't beat the Aba Southwesterns like to gossip about.

Continue gossiping and spreading lies but keep your illusions to yourself because nobody is buying them anymore.

okotv: to all those bashing states, remember sometime this year, the secondary schools had a quiz competition with Imo coming first and Ogun second, a lot of this results are just group results which doesn't really have any effect in the real sense. Have you checked the top students list before, if we were to go by tribe, i would say Yoruba's rule but no, why because the country's results are dwindling and we are claiming tribe..don't we understand that the problem caused by an uneducated population would affect even the learned...see Bornu for example, we might have a very low number of educated folks there but they cant even prove it cause the conditions are lackadaisical. Lets promote unity with our utterances and leave tribalism cause it does not help matters.

so because you were looking at porn0 on your Ipon Imo instead of studying the rest of us can't be happy about our success? Go and talk to your kindred that were labeling Igbos illiterates. The average yoruba man still believes his people are more educated than Igbos and will spread this lie in a heart beat.

Ikengawo:
this is true. the the old eastern state parents used to use their life savings to send their kids to school in Umuahia.

I'm ashamed at Imo's position. We're not supposed to be under APC. I'm worried that this worthless stipend is causing kids to go to school thinking about money and not their studies.

Anambra needs to be studied. It's not that it's the best, it's the best by an almost 10% margin, the widest gap between two states, so obviously something unique is happening here. Normally Anambra is #1, but with a smaller margin. I'm willing to say that this is due to Peter Obi handing the schools back to the churches and taking the government's hands out of educational affairs. I bet the bulk of the failed students there came from abandoned federal schools.

I would agree, with the bold in your comment, then, you have Edo and bayelsa states, with very strong government support, doing very well too.

My Anambra fellow folks, uni di egwu.. Congratulations to Anambra students, you made us proud. Congratulations to the SE states that trumped us to the height, I say great job. Finally, congratulations to my fellow SS, SW and everyone who scaled very well, God is your strength. As for those who failed, next year is another years.

Percentage in states where we don't have correct and accurate population, my foot!

Why not just list the numbers of students with 5 credits from each state? Ohh!! You know that won't favor you.

Did you attend elementary school at all?

The percentages are percentages of the total number of candidates that sat for the exam and not of the population of the states.

Shameful ileke -idi from ekiti.

What has inaccurate population got to do with performance?

5 credits won't favour who? U are shameless. You can't gain admission with 5 credits without English and maths that's what waec considers pass.

Pray tell me how ur sw candidates that couldn't pass English and maths would do better than those that trumped them.

From experience, most students that got credits in English and maths clear their remaining subjects since it takes good communication and calculating skills to scale art and science subjects respectively.

MOBJECTIVE: States with percentages over 35
1) Kaduna: 36.38% which represents 36 514 students-about double the number who passed in Imo state
2) Ebonyi: 36.05% representing just 9 170 students out of 25 436

I think we can consider anything below 35% utter disappointment

You can say that again
We know the zones that fit right in
If na to abuse person, they will be beating their chests and hyperventilating

I bet you the 45% pass that Lagos state got is because of the SS and SEasterners in Lagos bringing the numbers up
Take them off,Lagos will be in the neighborhood of 25% like neighboring Ogun state
