Nuclear Reactors: Lagos, a state in Nigeria is considering exploring nuclear energy as an alternative to power source

http://constructionreviewonline.com/2014/09/19/nigeria-explore-use-nuclear-energy/

Nigeria to explore use of nuclear energy

The governor of Lagos State in Nigeria, Babatunde Fashola, has said that the government is considering exploring nuclear energy as an alternative power supply in the state of the country. During the 4th Corporate Assembly, the governor said the government recognized how power supply was important to the country’s economic development in the state, and thus it’s resolution to explore other options to address the problem.

In the business dubbed “BRF Meets Business” and held at the Lekki Free Zone, Fashola said that the decision for exploring nuclear energy as an alternative to see the Nigerian state have adequate power, was one of the issues members attending the 2014 Economic Summit (Ehingbeti) had disagreed on.

According to him, two hours were devoted to discuss the matter during the State Executive Council meeting on Monday. He said they discussed how nuclear energy, as an alternative for power, could be deployed “within the next 5 to 24 months.”

Nigeria has been suffering problems of power and related infrastructure and has launched an ambitious plan of generating 40, 000 MW by 2020. It thus requires the necessary infrastructure to support the generation and distribution.

Anything to generate this power thing should be done, even though na to use uranium self

MODIFIED:
upon billions of dollars injected into power, but nothing to show for it! Question? Izit that the government is not willing(corruption) to give Nigerian steady power or izit that some cabal for selfish reason is limitating the efforts of the government.

Give this country steady power, & I bet you in next 5 years, world power will beg to associate with you and I. God bless Nigeria.

You should remove the caption below that picture and stop misleading people into thinking that that is actually in Lagos.

Nigeria is yet to effectively manage hydro power, yet they are talking about nuclear. Mumu people.

I dont believe it is the best decision to generate electricity using nuclear energy in nigeria. we do not have the mind set as a people to run a nuclear power plant.

The issue of electricity is not an issue of nuclear energy, but the lack of understand of electricity by politician. politician are the reason, why electricity is not working. because they are illiterate.

fashola or jonathan does not know anything about electricity. and when people dont know anything, how can they fix what they dont know.

a nuclear power plant in nigeria. will kill millions of people.

Nuclear energy is the fastest and the "easiest" way to generates multiple Gigawatts of electricity, and all the electricity -sufficient countries are already using it as major energy sources.
And Nigeria has all the uranium deposits it will ever need.
Unfortunately,i dont trust the Nigerian govt with this kind of project.
Atleast, not yet.

That's exactly the problem.

The government that is corrupt and irresponsible will end up killing Nigerians with the nuclear power. Take the SCOAN building that collapsed as an example.

We've not been able to handle hydor electricy properly, yet we are talking of nuclear energy..this is all GEJ's plan and this is why he musn't go past 2015 else, the fate of fukushima daiichi awaits nigeria not because of any natural disaster but due to poor management.
