My friend, if you genuinely think Saudi Arabia has more instances of human rights abuses than Nigeria, you must be deluded. The impunity with which Nigeria's law enforcers operate has to be experienced to be believed.

Quick question!! If the US is depriving Nigerian Military of relevant Intel, on timely basis and yet they acquire the intel on Nigerian Soil and over Nigerian airspace, why can't we deny them of this access?? To me, the US is not on anyone's side, look through their list of activities. You'll see clearly that all they've done so far is to foster their own interest.. Which isn't particularly ridding our precious Nigeria of her terrors but enable them know more about Nigeria and thereby intensify their efforts towards achieving their goal. The big picture is that their so-called help is absolute deceit! GOD BLESS NIGERIA!

Nothing has changed about Nigeria IMO. The only two periods Nigeria wasn't pro-West were: when the Murtala guy was killed, and the period when it was sanctioned. Apart from those two periods, the country has always been super-duper pro-West and supremely pro-American. Nigeria isn't part of the emerging powers sphere - it's under America's choke-hold. And isn't your Finance Minister part of the Rockefeller foundation? Also, the last time I checked, Nigeria still lined up behind America at the UN - Egypt which is a proper American ally didn't even do that.

The country has no foreign policy, and I doubt it has ever had one. Hence I'll always question the intelligence of those ruling Nigeria. Just schmucks running around with blinkered brain cells, labelling themselves diplomats. You'd think a country as big as Nigeria would have one - but it doesn't. Algerian foreign policy is there for all to see. Ditto Egypt and South Africa.
Sad isn't it?
I weep for this country everyday.

These are weapons. Not yams. Can you imagine what would happen if American made weapons were used in American soldiers? The media would have a field day.

But hey, let's go with the America conspiracy. "They mad because Nigeria isn't gay enough..."

BUT why don't you do research? do you know how many times the iraqs army left their american weapons and flee? how do you think the isis became more powerful?

You would think that Nigeria suffering serious power cuts would keep all her gas for her own use and utilize them.
No,not Nigeria.

What makes it more annoying is that: these folks are basically clueless about what's going on in the world.

There's a paradigm shift now, and more countries, are becoming neutral. The next century is for the developing countries that can take advantage of the paradigm shift in the consciousness of the world, as we go into a bipolar world. Hence countries like South Africa, Algeria, Egypt, and a lot of South American countries are already putting themselves in a position, to take advantage of that. South Africa is part of BRICS - emerging countries - and it's going to benefit immensely from that.

Yet, these fvckers are still waiting for America that has never sold any weapons to them, to allow Israel, which is America's military base in MENA to sell weapons to them - in 2014. It has nothing to do with human rights - Israel doesn't even have clean records of human rights, yet it gets $6 billion military aids from America annually, and during all raids of Gaza a few months ago and despite Israel's bombings of UN schools, hospitals, kids, women, and innocent people - America was still supplying Israel with all kinds of weapons.

phlemzy: America treating the largest black nation like one small Island country. There's something Obama dislikes about GEJ's personality or his style of government and he's yet to speak on it.

You people should smell the coffee. Since Nigeria signed the Anti-gay bill into law, the US and UK have been determined to get back at us. Do you think they're happy that we're now the biggest economy in Africa despite their criticisms and still one of the fastest growing economies in the world with GDP growth year on year averaging almost 7%. Nigeria is a big country in Africa and vital to their end time strategies. They'll continue to use many other coded ways to frustrate Nigeria. Was it last year or so I read they are no longer the biggest buyers of our oil but India and probably China. They can't spill it out but it's evident they're not too happy with us. Even last US-Africa Summit few months ago, when all African leaders were to take a group picture with Obama, they relegated the President of Africa's biggest economy to the back, instead of being at the centre of the picture with Obama. It's subtle but has deep meaning.

And why West Africa, and not Africa? West Africa is the weakest region on the continent, in terms of military, and almost every other metrics - apart from probably football. So, why should a country as big as Nigeria be competing with countries like that, and not the whole continent? Take away the huge population, and Nigeria is just as weak as the rest of West Africa -and that's troubling for the "giant of Africa."

The geography and economics are very suitable. We're surrounded by Francophone countries, and an American mole in Liberia. Hence the need for the Nigerian army to modernise, and that alone should be what our foreign policy should be about. Why do you think Algeria modernised its military - and became a neutral country? - same reasons. Flanked in the South by French moles, and American moles in Morocco and Tunisia.

And don't we have the largest economy in Africa? If that isn't something to build a strategic foreign policy on, I don't know what it's then.

Buying arms legitimately by the Government of a whole country like Nigeria is now so difficult?Haba .
Nigerians should stop believing the tales of the US is blocking us from buying arms as even a 15year old Nigeria boy knows that the ideological differentiation that exist between the US and The Russians makes it easy for a legitimate Govt to procure arms legitimately from either Nation.

If he want a US made Helicopter, go to the manufacturers and not a backyard deal with a third party. Also the government should come clean with their transactions to give confidence to other partners, not using a jet of a pastor to move cash.
Military hardware(in fact most security hardware) are not sold in the open market like that. For example , contact any weapons manufacturing company online and try buying a semi-automatic from them, you will be re-directed to their dealer in your area who will then ascertain your clearance to purchase the weapon. This process doesn't change because you are a Nigerian Government ( Some of these corporations are both richer and more powerful than Nigeria).
The only exception to this rule is if you are buying from the black market.

Your primeval Saudi Arabia has beheaded over 300 people in that 6 months alone - in a barbaric fashion that's somewhat similar to what ISIS is doing. That's far worse than anything. Arab countries have a different strategic interest in the middle east and you need to remember that most of them fought civil wars to get independence unlike Nigeria who got it on a platter. Nigeria might be the largest economy in terms of GDP but when it come to having the industries to compete there are too few and most of them are AGIP because the state doesn't depend on them for political support or budget financing so they can't change or shape policies collectively.

We do have the resources but we really are not there yet to be honest. Nigeria's business sector is still overly dependent on FDIs and natural resources which is controlled by the state. Nigerians will never learn from others. The fact that there are moles within the Nigerian military and SSS giving Boko Haram intelligence information there is nothing that can be done to get rid of the insurgents without almighty USA getting involved. Who ever bring the wrong idea that it is American government that is behind sponsor of the terror group is a liar trying to divert attentions to other thing. Indeed, Nigerians would rather believe in conspiracy theories than accept facts. Nigerians like rumors a lot!

Nigeria's government should clean up the rats within the military and secret agency. And, form a department that would be responsible for the dissemination of intelligence info and plan to defeat the insurgents.

Foreign ministers or secretaries as the case may be are very important posts in any sane country but Nigeria reserves it for some silly and uncharismatic party buffoon.

Lmao...you know Liberia has always been America in West Africa. And that's the way it's always going to be. grin The flags of the two countries are basically the same, apart from the tons of stars on the other one. And the Americo-Liberians still run things over there.

The fact that Nigeria got its independence on a platter doesn't mean the country should be stuck in stupid, with absolutely no direction/clue on where it should position itself - in world politics. No excuse. Accepted the GDP might be deceiving, however, since it's something that's widely recognised as "fact" - then why not use that as premise and bargaining chip to position the country in an advantageous position? Most of the other developing countries also aren't industralised, hence they're called "3rd world countries." But that hasn't stopped them from positioning themselves where they can benefit from wherever the coming new world order goes. Egypt has been making sweet deals with Russia - which means a shift from where it has been since the Anwar Sadat era. It's also involved with China as well and it also joined the new move for a new world economic order launched by the BRICS. Brazil is still a developing country but it's making a lot of things happen. Algeria's economy is very similar to Nigeria's - but it's neutral, with a well defined foreign policy, and has benefited immensely from that.

I'd wager that GDP, and the status as the largest economy in Africa, should've propelled Nigeria into a new century of need to industralise, be less dependent, be neutral, and time to start leading in Africa. And that should be a premise for a well-defined foreign policy.

Countries use their diaspora populations as part of their foreign policy. Hence the US keeps gazillion of military bases everywhere for that. Israeli diaspora are one of Israel's tools for its foreign policy. Those commonwealth countries of Canada, Australia, New Zealand etc. governed by ethnic Brits of yesteryears are part of the UK's foreign policy. Iran's influence in South America is because of the huge Iranian and Lebanese shiite diaspora in that part of the world. Etc.
