What makes a good city that Anambra does not have ahead of other states around- Good network of roads, Flyovers, Bridges, Pedestrian bridges, Flyover Interchanges, River Port, Airport(under-construction), Malls(3), Good drinking water, Electricity, Population(highest in the SE) etc. Anambra has got it all in quantum ahead of other states around. The fact is that Anambra as a whole is developing simultaneously as state as against others that are developing a single town.

Federal Road Safety Corps mobile court on Tuesday convicted 104 road traffic offenders during a special inter-state patrol and enlightenment exercise within the Ozubulu-Okaji-Ihiala-Mgbidi-Njaba areas of the Onitsha-Owerri road.

The traffic offenders, mostly commercial bus drivers, were convicted for offences ranging from worn-out tyres, non-use of seat belts, non-availability of caution signs, overloading and lack of passengers’ manifest among other infractions.

Speaking on the exercise tagged ‘Ember Months Signal’, at Ozubulu near Onitsha, the FRSC Sector Commander in Imo State, Mr Yusuff Salami, said the inter-state patrol involved officers and men from Ihiala Unit Command in Anambra State and Njaba Unit Command in Imo State.

Salami said, “We have already entered the ‘Ember’ months and in ember months, people have a wrong belief that when the ember months come people must die

“Because they believe that, maybe there is a demon on the road that is killing people; since the establishment of the FRSC, we believe that there is no demon or blood sucking demon on the road killing the people.

“The problem that we are encountering is that in ember months, commencing from September, October, November to December, there is increase in vehicular and human movement on the road.

“You have all sorts of people, all sorts of drivers that are not following laid down rules and regulations on the usage of the road.

“Hence, once we come to that period, we intensify our efforts in enforcement activities and public enlightenment.

“Just to increase awareness as well as enforce the rules and regulations so that the rate of the road crashes come to the minimum; and it has become our ritual and we have been doing it year-in, year-out and we have been seeing positive results.’’

Also, FRSC Sector Commander in Anambra State, Mr Sunday Ajayi, said the exercise would help both sector commands to achieve the FRSC 2014 goals, which is reduction of road traffic crashes by 15 per cent and reduction of road fatality by 25 per cent.

Ajayi added that the commands would make the exercise a continuous one for the benefit of road users within the Onitsha-Owerri road corridor.


Obiano supporting and improving Anambra branch of FRSC.

Governor Willie Obiano of Anambra State on Wednesday presented three refurbished Armoured Personnel Carriers, APCs, to the state police command to strengthen and sustain security in the state.
In his speech at the occasion, Mr. Obiano said the target of his administration was to refurbish and present 20 APCs to the state police command for deployment to various parts of the state.
He said that two more APCs would be handed over to the police in two weeks.
He promised that his administration would present 10 horses to the police to aid crowd control during major events.
“The APCs are expected to equip the police to adequately battle kidnappers, armed robbers and criminals who threaten the peace in the state,’’ he said.
The governor urged the police to make effective use and maintain the APCs to protect the people of the state.
In his remark, the out-going Commissioner of Police in the state, Usman Gwari, thanked the governor for his zeal and commitment to the maintenance of peace and security in the state.
Mr. Gwari, who was recently promoted to the rank of Assistant Inspector-General of Police, AIG, recalled that the APCs were wasting away until the governor refurbished them for effective performance.
He assured that vehicles would be effectively used for crime fighting.
Mr. Gwari attributed the achievements recorded by the state police command during his tenure to the good working relations between the police and the government.
Mr. Victor Okoye, Chairman, House of Assembly Committee on Security, commended the governor for equipping the police and building their capacity to discharge their duties effectively.
