Please, the I galas in Anambra should go & align themselves with their ancestral brothers, they should always try to identify themselves with their brothers in Kogi state despite their geopolitical location so that with time they can be brought back home. There could be state creation or boundary adjustment that can bring them in union with their ancestral brothers where they will be no discrimination/marginalization against them in future. That can be fought together in agreement. You stand to gain a lot when you are back home so that with the Anambrarians will not be taking advantage of you. This is 'my candid advise to you &you will not regret it if heeded to it. 1 Like |

Deltagiant: You do know immigration is a very different issue from citizenship. I have not sought to draw any lesson from the Nazi movement of Germany, but from the fact that Germany is one of the most well Fusioned states in Europe, yet was born out of different tribes, Infact were different sovereign states upto. The 1800s when. The German Empire was formed. We have a lot of lessons to learn from that, being Africans, where every few kilometres constitutes a distinctly different National identity. If not in the past, at least in our current political reality! 1 Like |

KenGali: I still think you should take Germany out of the context. She doen't fit in your projections. Nigeria, even at this level of co-habitation is a microcosm of what a peaceful plurality should be minus Boko Haram anyway. 500 ethnic nationalties in one country call it empire has no comparison in any European history. You've said nothing yet regarding Olaudah's citation. |

thewarrior72:you can call me any name na u get your mouth, but read these articles by your leaders: Ndigbo Will Suffer If Nigeria Breaks Up – Ahamba A Chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Imo State and a delegate at the ongoing National Conference, Chief Mike Ahamba SAN, has reiterated that he would not canvass or support the breakup of Nigeria at the conference. He made this known while fielding questions from Nigeria Moment recently. He said that the Igbos would suffocate in Igbo land if Nigeria breaks up because it would lead to population explosion, food and housing crisis, job problems, etc, and that he would not support any move that would lead to the division of the country. He added that the Igbos are the people who actually need free movement in the country because of their spread in the country. He also said that what needed to be done was to create atmosphere that would guarantee the Igbos to realize their futures where ever they are, even as he said the Igbos need to reach out to others for the best interest of their children. He said: “They have forgotten what happened to those who ran back because of the crisis in the North: that only a week after, their relations asked them out of their homes. So, what do we do? Now, you find that if a trailer blocks the road to the North today, we will starve. We won’t have tomatoes, fish and others. “What are you separating for? All these things will now be imported and you will have to pay duties on them. Some people don’t understand this: we are the people who need free movement in Nigeria; the others don’t, we do. So, why splitting the country? “What we can do is to make it possible for every Igbo man where ever he to realize his future. We want friendship with others; we want to unclench our fist and have a handshake with others in the interest of our children who are elsewhere. Look at all the universities all around the place! You want our children to be foreign students in those places? Because that would be the implication. The population of every university in the country today is at least 40% Igbo. “The population of the lecturers is the same thing, and this is what you want to destroy because somebody is fanning your embers here to come back home. We will suffocate in this place. And I don’t think I will support that.” He said that those castigating him for his earlier statement that he won’t support Nigeria’s breakup and described it as self serving, were being childish as he has always held position irrespective of his appointment as a delegate to the National Conference. “That is a childish opinion, because I have always held that opinion before I was appointed, and I think I will defend it anywhere very successfully. You see, people hold peripheral opinion on issues: “oh! Let us separate, let us do this.” Have you planned how you will separate? You have too many Igbo men outside Igbo land, and when you take decisions you should consider them. If all these in Alaba, in Kano, everywhere in this country lose their citizenship where ever they are, it is bound to affect them economically because they will become foreigners.” He said that the Igbos would suffer most among all the groups in the country if there is a breakup of the country today as there are not enough job opportunities to absorb the mass of the people that would return. He said: “And of all the groups in Nigeria, the Igbo group would be the largest sufferer of such situation. Now, those at home enjoying themselves don’t know what the effect would be on others, but I know. So, in Nigeria, in every state, you would find that after the indigenes of that state, the next in population is the Igbo. So, where are you going to put these people if they come back home? “Since (Michael) Opkara, has anyone built industry here? Look at Naze Industrial Area; look at Onitsha Road Industrial Area; how many governors have come here since they were set up? Do you have anything there? And when you talk about governorship nomination people are talking about somebody who has money to give to delegates and not somebody who has a programme to create job for the people. “That is what we are interested in. If we work to ensure that anybody who lives anywhere in Nigeria should have full citizenship rights in those places, it would be to the advantage of the Igbos instead of losing what we already have. That is the position I take, and I think that those who oppose me do so out of ignorance. They need to understand. And I know that after my formal presentation of that case and arguing it at the National Conference, I will expose myself to some of the radio stations here and we will dialogue on it, and the person will tell me what he intends to do with those who will come back (if Nigeria divides).” https://www.nairaland.com/1731849/ndigbo-suffer-nigeria-breaks-up And https://www.nairaland.com/756872/nigeria-breaks-up-igbo-hardest |

WE HAVE BEEN ABANDONED, ONE MILLION NATIVE IGBOS OF BENUE STATE CRIES OUT 1Million Souls BY EMMANUEL UZOR, ONITSHA ON MARCH 16, 2014 · NATIONAL There are over one million of them spread across four local government areas of Benue State. You can find them in Ado, Oju, Okpoku and Obi, all in Benue State. They are ethnic Igbos. Before the Nigerian civil war, they lived a happy and meaningful life, mingling freely with their kith and kin in the state. But today, things have fallen apart. Instead of the joyful songs, they were used to, they now sing dirges. The Benue Igbos who are called by the name Umuezeokoha are not happy that they have been neglected for a long time now by successive governments, federal, state or local, and they are blaming this on their ethnic origin and the fact that they are in the wrong state. Interestingly, the people share the same Benue South Senatorial Constituency with Senate President, David Mark. Though Igbos , the Umuezeokoha Community, due perhaps to accident of history, are found in Benue State instead of Ebonyi State , being the closest Igbo state where their kinsmen, the Ezza Ezekuna kindred are found. According to the President, Benue Igbo Union, Mr. Nweke Cedrick Ifeanyi, his people are wallowing in poverty and neglect and are often denied democracy dividends, including obtaining local government identification letters for employment in and outside the state. Historical background of Igbos in Benue Mr. Nweke said the Igbos in Benue State, particularly those in Ado, Oju, Okpoku and Obi Local Government Areas were in existence before the advent of Christianity in Nigeria. But since then, he lamented, they have not been recognized by successive governments both at the state and federal levels in both Ebonyi and Benue states. “Although before the independence and the Nigerian civil war, which lasted for about three years, we used to experience government attention to the extent that the missionaries then established one local primary school at Umuezeokoha community which comprises over 300 villages of Igbo speaking areas that time. The school was generally accepted by our elders then and we did witness medical attention. “But since after the civil war, we in the entire 300 Igbo-speaking villages in Benue State have been dumped by the Nigerian government. It is worse for those in Benue South Senatorial District. We have never experienced any government attention, let alone a project from the local, state and federal governments up till date.” The Igbo Union President also disclosed that a place with a population of over one million people has no designated political ward, no councillorship representative at the local government level nor at the state government level despite their voting population. He said even Senator David Mark and Governor Gabriel Suswan have been winning all their elections in the area. Mr. Nweke also narrated how their children die in their large numbers because of lack of immunization, which he said they have never witnessed since the return of democracy. He also painted a gory picture of how they were swindled of N6,000 each for insecticide treated mosquito nets, which were given free to neighbouring communities by the federal government. “We are lacking so many things, including a health centre, political ward, good roads, good water, electricity. There is no salary earner in our place to the extent that the mosquito treated insecticide nets given freely by the federal government was sold to us at the rate of N6,000 each, some even paid without claiming it till date,” Nweke said. “All our roads are narrow; we do not have any motorable road in our area at all, last time when we visited the local government chairmen and complained about the issue of selling mosquito nets to us, what they said was that the era of mosquito nets had come and gone. This attracted exchange of gazes, and the question weather we are still a part of this country. Imagine as we are in this dry season, we hardly see water to drink, wash and cook, talk less of taking bath. Before we see water to do something, one has to trek up to 30 kilometres to a place where there is an unpurified dam water, but in this place, you must queue up in a line before it will get to your turn,” he said. Another member of the community, Chief John Nwali also narrated the ordeal of the people in the hands of successive governments in the state, adding, “sometimes we do lament whether we are different from other human beings created by God. Some of them that claim to be natives of the state mock us by telling us to wait to benefit from government only when the Biafran nation which we fought for comes into reality.” “At times we nurse the idea of belonging to another country. In fact, if we are close to another country, we could have declared our intention to become their citizens, but this one we are in the midst of Nigeria, we speak Nigerian language, practice Nigerian culture and religion, in every election we vote and still we are treated with great scorn and neglect as if we are not existing. Yet, we have somebody like the Senate President, living in Abuja with our mandate. “Even in the last 2011 general election, I was the PDP Campaign Coordinator for Benue Igbo branch, but since that time till now, we are still in the same condition. We have been regarded as slaves in the country of our own. Even the only primary school that was built by the missionary before Independence is no more attracting government attention. The school is now in a sorry state. The only secondary school we have as of now is one at Saint Charles Catholic Church at Apa Ogbozu community, which was initiated by one Reverend Father.” “We do not have anybody in the Benue State Government cabinet both in the local, state and in federal levels. We are all confused on what to do and where to go because we do not know when this indefinite discrimination will come to an end because even to the extent that the local government identification letters are no more being given to us any longer as Nigerian citizens.” Chief Nwali also said that during rainy season, their people get drowned in water and disclosed that none of the streams, rivers and lakes has any bridge and lamented that during the last flood incident, they lost almost all their farm lands and every other thing they had laboured for. “The political oppression which we have been subjected to is very serious. Even one of the biggest rivers we have has not attracted government attention, just to build a bridge across it. Last year, more than 20 people died while trying to cross the river for their normal daily business. We have made so many efforts to visit our Governor, Gabriel Suswan and our Senator, David Mark, to table our problem before them, but all to no avail.” An octogenarian, Pa Nwankwo Alo said: “Our children have not been immunized over the years, let alone polio eradication programme. Our women do not even know what is hospital when they are pregnant because there are no hospitals to attend and yet we have up to 32 polling units. We have even called for more polling units because we are more than the present one but the government refused even as this national confab draws nearer, there is nobody to speak for us.” http://sunnewsonline.com/new/?p=56412 5 Likes |

KenGali:though I intend not to catch you at the jugular, the bold shows ignorance at its highest!! the term GERMAN has been known to romans since the time of Christ and though they were of different tribes like the Franks, Lombards,Goths etc,the romans called them the Germanic tribes. by the 10th century with the coronation of King Otto, there was a distinct German nation. by that 1871 you quoted, there were distinct German states like Bavaria, Württemberg, Baden, Brandenburg-Prussia, Austria before Otto von Bismarck of Prussia united all German states except Austria into the German empire. so using eurocentric simulations as someone said earlier shows you've no grasp of the situation at all |

Deltagiant: This is not an excuse to treat anyone badly. But here we are talking about one million people and 300 villages being neglected to the extent that their kids and women are not even entitled to immunization, denied official recognition by Benue/Northern Nigerian government since 100 years in their own very ancestral land. And some few thousand over fed folks out there at Nzam are complaining that their language is not being broadcast enough on Anambra stations. Is that not annoying? 7 Likes |

Klinee:Brother,if you don't understand someone's statement, you should ask for clarification instead of resorting to insults. Why do you think I placed "host" in quotes in my post? Answer these questions to yourself: Are you an Anambarian? Or are you an Igalan or Kogite living in Anambra state? These are pertinent questions that will begin to address your issues here. Otherwise,it will seem you're confused about what you actually want and your indegeneship. Another thing: I hope you know your opinion on this whole issue might not represent that of the majority of Igalans in Anambra state. A lot of them might just be happy with the status quo and would only ask for more developments from the state. While others would want to be ceded to Kogi state. The question again: who are you and what do you want? |

KenGali: Modern Germany wasn't formed by fusion of heterogenous groups, but by fusion of Germanic tribes which were independent before their unification under Von Bismarch. It's similar to the fusion of Igbo tribes like the Ngwa tribe, Asa tribe,Idemili tribe, Ezza tribe,Izzi tribe, Isu, Aros, Bende conglomerates, the Cross river igbo groups( Abiriba) , Nkanu, etc to form the modern Igbo nation. Only difference being that we still lack a country. |

Wow very enlightening article. Lemme save it to show mama when I take my igala sweetheart to her. Geographical boundaries and states are sometimes decimated in error. If people have lived in a particular location for centuries; they should be entitled to equal rights and opportunities as every other inhabitant of that geographical location. It's appalling when the.younger generation of Nigerians who should hitherto have been more liberal in their thinking, still play the ethnic/tribal card. This is why we have ethnic; tribal/settler wars. If I could redraft the constitution of Nigeria I would make it law that if you reside in any part of. this country for a period of 10 years you are entitled to your full rights just as any other inhabitant of that area including the right to contest any elective office |
