Seems APC supporters are the ones most pained by this decision.

Ride on Seun, Enforce the clean language rule and permanently ban those who disobey.

Billyonaire:
Dear Seun Osewa,

Firstly, I commend your humility to request the inputs of Nairalanders before making a decision on this, and I believe the decision should be based on what is right but not what is popular.

Freedom of Speech:
Many people, especially the divide that knows nothing about debates without fallacies, name-calling and abuses are going to cite Freedom of Speech as the reason to continue their madness and mayhem, but be guided by the fact that Freedom is not Liberty, Freedom has boundaries and limitations. No one is at Liberty to insult the public figures but one has freedom to air his views without abuses.

American Paradigm:
There are also those who believe that if Obama can be insulted by Americans, then our politicians should be insulted too; Seun, Ignore them, because I believe not in the mantra that everything American is perfect, Our cultures and tradition of respect is being eroded by blind followership of Americanized tenets. Seun set a standard and lets match into 2015 election with constructive debates.

Seun, No one has to threaten you to know what is right, No one even has the right to force you to be anti or pro government, this is your creation, but not without the people, because it is the people's forum.

Seun, except you set this clean wordings standards, Nairaland will continue to be shunned by the upper echelon, the educale, the lettered and the no-nonsense personalities.

I support the idea of free but clean speech, so I support Seun advocation to ban those who insult government officials be it Fashola, Rochas, President Jonathan or my pompous self.

So mote it be.
No wonder Nigeria is a mess of a country where corruption and nepotism is the order of the day. When citizens living on less than $5 a day worships ther oppressors. Classical example of Stockholm Syndrome. Nigeria is doomed if the inept, corrupt leadership is beyond reproach. Critiquing your leadership is the highest form of patriotism . Maybe you want Nigeria to worship GEJ like North Koreans worship Kim Jung Un. God help Nigeria from this kind of irrational thinking and mediocrity .

This must be a joke huh? We all don't have to be on the same team or support the same people otherwise, the world will be a boring place.

It's called freedom of speech and expression.

Why would you do that? Make sure to move the site to Saudi Arabia or some islamic desert. This is 2014 and it's the internet bro, do that and say bye to your members

Nigeria is a great country brov, I dont know where you live and what you doing with your life, but you cant succeed by insulting people. Insult is not free speech. Conduct yourselve with respect to others. Have you been monitoring Hong Kong protest ? There are no insults but sane civil disobedience.

Mr. Seun you are a pitiable person. I expect that you would have done some sober reflection by this time. Is it because we call Jonathan Mr. Clueless and the PDP a Killer Party that you want to Gag our views? Do not use your own hand to ruin your forum-It is just a brotherly and friendly advise.

RUBBISSSSSSHHHHHH

PS: This is in contravention to the African Charter on Human Right which deals with FREEDOM OF SPEECH and the 1999 Constitution of Nigeria.

Jonathan must go next year..period...

By the time I got to the ending "So mote it be" I decided not to bother. This is what happens when people are too impressed with their own intelligence. That's a Wiccan greeting. i.e. American witches. But I bet he thought it sounded smart.

My mother told me about this woman from her village who was so impressed with one of her husband's books, she came to my mom and asked her to pronounce a word for her. The word was örgasm (which, of course, Nairaland censors by changing it to the inane words "Heavenly feeling", but I digress). So she excitedly decided she would use the word to insult someone in the village one day. And say disdainfully, "Huh! Look at this örgasm!"

That's what I thought of as I glanced through that barrage of nonsense.

@Billyonaire, you can't just put words together. They have to make sense, too.

The freedom speech granted by the Constitution doesn't include all the trash we see here daily. I urge Seun not to allow angry jobless youths to destroy his business just for the fun of it. Where were they when the site crashed? I'm sure they will be nowhere to be found when the site get bigger problem because of them.

Am a very successful guy by all measuring scale. So don't worry about me. The problem you failed to realize is that your overlords that you worship doesn't give a hoot about you. They transport millions of dollars out of the country and billions of dollars in oil money unaccounted for. On a dime, they will fly abroad for medical needs. Can you afford to pay for your health care at St Nicholas hospital or Reddington ?. I doubt so. Keep idolizing them while they are stealing your birth right from you. Calling Nigeria a great country shows how much you know.

Nigerians use this forum to speak against bad govt. If I were a govt official, I would visit this forum regularly to know how Nigerians feel abt me. Criticisms are meant to help you wax stronger. Criticising these politicians can help them serve us better in a long way. Banning these criticism would do the nation more harm than good and it would make nairaland less interesting. I suggest you advice nairalanders on how to interact with one another but don't ban any criticism against any govt official for the interest of Nigeria. This is ur own little contribution to fatherland. Be brave. Don't be intimidated and stand for what you believe... cheers

Lmao! immediately I read this part, I just decoded some things!

objective is to prepare Nairaland
for a time when the Nigerian Government may
not be able to tolerate such things

1) You know Seun doesn't like buhari because he feels that Buhari is someone who hates press freedom!

2) He thinks that Buhari might win the next election

3) And he also thinks that if Buhari wins the election, he'll scrap press freedom!

Seun has seen the future! !!!!!!

Hello,

I'm working on a modification to our rules that will make it an offence to disrespect government officials and call them derogatory names on Nairaland. The objective is to prepare Nairaland for a time when the Nigerian Government may not be able to tolerate such things. Currently it's against our rules to deliberately insult a Nairaland member, so we will just be extending this rule to make it cover government officials too.

What are your comments on this? I promise to read all your comments, though I can't promise to reply all of them, of course.

Thanks!

I find the statement in red text above quite troubling and disturbing. I wonder who is threatening the Admin and convincing him that the Nigerian government is poised for implementing draconial laws anytime soon. SMH
