mrmetoo1: The cost of the whole terminal 1A is US$72.3 million (Kshs6.3 billion), that's might be quite a bit according to Kenyan standards since our GDP is only US$55 Billion and government expenditure is only US$20 Billion. By Nigerian starndards, with 72.3 million dollars, you wont even feel a pinch. in Addition, the cost of the furniture and interior design of the two lounges (Simba and Pride lounge) cost only about 2 million. 2 Likes |

kaboninc: Dude please educate me. Look the truth is I'm not impressed with our present government and I don't hide it. If I see what they've done, believe me I'll commend them. You say I'm saying what I think I know, look at my posts and you'll see I write from what I know. December, I arrived to a hot airport and leaky roofs. Long lines with an express line for non-citizens (its the other way around in other countries but oh well). Bribe being asked from every corner you turn but that's ok. Getting out of the parking lot was a nightmare with potholes all around the PARKING LOT, as in parking lot, a PAID PARKING LOT. I went back to the airport to drop wifey in January still hot, went back in May to pick her up, still hot she had a worse experience this time around maybe because she was travelling alone with a baby but thats ok. 2 weeks ago my friend came in and still mentioned the leaky roofs at arrival. Couple of days after went to drop off wifey at the airport again, airport still hot. In December, I'm going go through this again this time it'll be me experiencing the departure and arrival myself, if anything has changed I'll update you. If I haven't been objective enough please let me know 2 Likes |

denisfidha: Ok so over a billion dollars is reported to have been spent to rehabilitate the airports and we can't boast of good toilets. We should at least be able to show off 13 terminal 1A's with the money spent. I'm sorry for letting you go through the trouble of giving us the info on how much has been spent on building the Kenyan airport when we could have easily googled it but if I wrote it, some folks here would have called me a liar. What's crazy about this is, I'm sure the Kenyan government has somehow "chopped" money from this project but at least the results are there for everyone to see. 4 Likes |

majekdom2:As usual, an insane person first calls people mad. You never contested my claim that regional govts build and maintain better infrastructures. Did Washington DC build JFK, or Dakota airports among others? Do you even understand that Nigeria is only federal republic in name, that Nigeria practices a worst form of unitary govt in place of federal system? Face reality, accros a wide Nigeria, your Federal govt of Nigeria comprising a few persons in charge in Abuja, can never build and maintain the type of infrastructures you expect, even if Oyel money tripples. But love for Oyel money will never allow your lot to vote for Fiscal federalism and regional govt system returned to Nigeria. Fiscal federalism with regional govt system is only system of govt that can enable the building of glittering infrastructures like the ones you show from other countries. So long as Oyel money gets Nigeria stuck with unitary govt system, yo have to continue to bring us pix from other functional countries for comparison with Nigeria's whose people refruse to embrace a suitable political system. |
Re: Nigerian Airports Rated Among The Worst In Africa by Nobody: 4:52pm On Nov 25, 2014 |
hansad:old/ young man , the debate is not true federalism or the type of govt or not , the argument is where is the transformation in these airports , it is better the govt keeps mum on these project than to claim they have done something. The already destroyed image is being deterred more.the airports being compared are in Africa here . Argue like you comprehend English language. Are there no federal govt owned airports in America. The information on the thread is not what form of govt we should practice ,we seen and heard that couple of times .as long as it is this calibre of individuals that are in power , whatever form of govt being practiced will continue to fail. |

denisfidha: Reckless statement....."not even south Africa will come close". Problem here is that people build one structure and celebrate as if the country is awash with those structures. Look here in SA, we got quite a few that meet international standards. Even smaller airports like East London, KMIA etc are far better than some main airports in Africa. So you need to take care when you want to post negatively about SA. Else, you may find yourself with egg on your face. 1 Like 1 Share |
Re: Nigerian Airports Rated Among The Worst In Africa by Nobody: 5:38pm On Nov 25, 2014 |
Parolee: Its not one structure, JKIA is the only terminal that has been completed, others are currently bieng upgraded, there is even an new airport in the coastal tourist town of Malindi that was to be constructed to replace the small one near the town, but it was too big that there was no land to fit all of it and it had to be moved about 40 km away, to nowhere, if the costruction starts, it is build to rival even the main airport JKIA so many things to come. Add that to the other Internationa airport to be built close to Lamu where the 32 berth sea-port that will link a pipeline, rail and road to Ethiopia, Uganda and S.Sudan. But alshabaab will have to be eliminated completely close to the boder with somalia so that the airport won't become a ghost town after 5 years of opening |

majekdom2:THE unitary govt system in Nigeria furnishes us with the low calibre political office holders that give us substandard infrastructures, including the airports. But you ever dodge to talk about returning a suitable political system like true federalism/regional govt system whch shall spring up better leaders to give Nigeria the infrastrutures of international standards. You place all your hopes on Oyel money to build and maintan good "federal" infrastructures in a Nigeria where leaders are corrupted by the unitary system of govt. You must then continue to lament about Nigeria, its bad leadership and substandard infrastructures, till thy kingdom come, not withstanding who you place in Aso Rock by the time you succeed in brainwashing the uninformed majority to vote the existing govt out. The present govt, more than others before it, has even made better efforts on infrastructural develooment of Nigeria. But because your group wants Aso Rock hook or crook, you would not acknowledge that. You poeople are rather scheeming and brainwashing gullible Nigerians to vote your group into power, and if by any miracle you succeed, you must only return Nigeria to the dark ages soon after. |

mrmetoo1: In situations like this you mention the airport and create the awareness. However, if there is an effort to fix the already bad situation, please also spread the news. That is how to be balanced. Its not about finding fault, it is more about finding a solution. That is my point. Please mention the airport so that others can comment on it. |

That spokes person for FAAN should have been quite without making any defence about the ratings! Its a perfect rating,I have been to dar es salam airport in Tanzania and I know there airport is poor you couldn't even find decent place to sleep while waiting for next flight, I was in Bole airport Adis Ababa Ethiopia there Airport is far far better than MMA you would almost feel you were in Europe! They've got fleet's of jet carriers almost all around the world Mhen! Does guys are serious minded! Jets every where! Same in Capetown south Africa! Its just a shame we are far backwards, do we even have a national carrier like Ethiopian airlines, south African airlines? What ever happened to Nigerian airways? Its just a real shame! I guess the answer is corruption.. Hmm.. 2 Likes |

Parolee:The government of Nigeria never listened to the citizens, that is one of the major problems in that country. The leaders are good in embezzling funds appropriated for standard projects and come up with poor plans. It is so annoying that I feel like crying sometimes, most especially, when I see poor infrastructure online. Jeez! Bleh! But, you are not in the right position to tell us what to do. Not until you have fix your Township bucket poo system you're just an outside from the squalor of South Africa. |
