The United States government has expressed ‘deep’ disappointment by the decision to postpone Nigeria’s presidential election, which had been scheduled for February 14.
A statement by U.S. Secretary of State, John Kerry, shortly after the announcement of the poll shift by the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission, Attahiru Jega, on Saturday, said political interference with INEC is unacceptable.
Mr. Jega, while announcing the shift, said INEC’s decision follows a letter from security agencies informing the commission that security cannot be guaranteed if the elections go ahead as scheduled.

He said the Nigerian military is currently engaged in operations against Boko Haram insurgents in the north-eastern part of the country.

“Last Wednesday…the office of the National Security Adviser (NSA) wrote a letter to the Commission, drawing attention to recent developments in four Northeast states of Borno, Yobe, Adamawa and Gombe currently experiencing the challenge of insurgency.

“The letter stated that security could not be guaranteed during the proposed period in February for the general elections,” Mr. Jega said.

But the U.S. government in its reaction said “it is critical that the government not use security concerns as a pretext for impeding the democratic process”.

Mr. Jega had also on Saturday announced new dates of March 28 and April 11 for national and state elections.

The US said the international community would be watching closely as the Nigerian government prepares for elections on the newly scheduled dates.

“The United States underscores the importance of ensuring that there are no further delays.

“As I reaffirmed when I visited Lagos last month, we support a free, transparent, and credible electoral process in Nigeria and renew our calls on all candidates, their supporters, and Nigerian citizens to maintain calm and reject election-related violence,” Mr. Kerry said.

They can be disappointed, It's not our concern. The security agencies have already spoken, Do you want the elections to hold without adequate security?...Besides, millions of eligible voters could be disenfranchised. They will condemn, As If they will help us when the trouble start brewing.

So your disappointment maybe a blessing to us.

A Desperate man is a dangerous man....

GEJ and members of his administration are ready to destroy the nation in other to continue in office at all cost.

The video where Okupe was shouting at journalists like a woman in labour should show Nigerians how desperate this government is. They know the implication of a Buhari win . They will go to any length to stay in power but they under-estimate the resoluteness of Nigerians.

Tell me a single Country where usa showed up and they have peace afterwards. Is it Iraq,Egypt, Libya or Syria. They couldn't sell arm to a conventional Nigerian army cos of human right but they could supply jihadists in Syria just to unseat Assad thereby creating Isis. I no longer care about American opinion. They predicted Nigeria will break so they should be happy if Jonathan is helping them fulfill their evil agenda. Whenn George Bush was rigging elections in Florida I didn't release a press statement. America should leave us alone

Americans talking as if they love Nigeria. Because GEJ resisted enthronement of homosexuality in our constitution, they're doing everything to undermine his government (including refusal to buy our oil). Buhari won't agree either if he wins. What is wrong in shifting election date which is constitutional? Is Nigeria no longer an independent nation? America should go and...

Nice comment. Most people think the US is Nigeria's friend. The truth is the US is Nigeria's competitor and they'll do everything possible to make Nigeria beneath always.

Whether they like it or not, GEJ or GMB, Nigeria will rise above their propaganda and hate and we'll build a better country that they'll envy

JOHN KERRY IS JUST BLABBING. What is the cause of their disappointment? This is our house so they should let us build it by ourselves. Besides, they can't come to vote here so how does it affect them?

Everyone knows that GEJ is spinning another dumb plan on the table- "Wanting to form an interim Government" and he needs six weeks to perfect this plan and not fight Boko Haram as widely speculated!

There is not going to be an Election, because he knows he has already lost by a land slide considering the rocky structure in the PDP!

But only God can thwart this plan of his.. Click like to say Amen!! cool

In as much as i feel for our kind loving brothers and sisters in the North Eastern part of the country and would be happy to see the end of the monster called BH come an end, the excuse to suddenly embark on fighting the Boko Haram with the entire security forces in the country is a mere lie and is not acceptable to the loving gentle peace loving Nigeria. Imagine the same democracy that brought in this clueless corrupt President in 2010 and 2011 when Yar adua died and GEJ forgetting so quickly how Nigerians came out in mass to fight for him when he was being denied of his constitutional right by the cabals by playing the impunity card perpetuated by the so called cabals then when he was the Vice president is the same impunity card mr clueless one is playing out on almost 200 million intelligent good loving people of Nigeria right now. Well I don't really blame him because we the people created this monster called SHEPOPOTEMUS GEJ by voting for him based on sentiment without carrying out any background check to ascertain is integrity and credibility, but come rain come sunshine come March 2015 we will vote out this clueless government and vote for the change movement.

Click likes in support for GMB/Prof and Share for in support for GEJ/Sambo to test their popularity after the postponement !!!

Am just afraid for Nigeria....am scared of the aftermath of the election......Its very obvious that Jonathan is desperate to retain power @ all cost and when he finally wins tru rigging and intimidation, the northern people will react.....civil war go start, thousands will be killed and finally " He will regret his actions" ...Even don Corleone regretted his action to seek for power @ all means
