My Opinion

Please, Buhari's handlers should give him a script to read from; it's better to read from a well defined, written piece of paper than him attempting to impress the public with his chosen words. The thought of a presidential candidates making such promises beats my imagination, not only does it show deficiency on his part, it's an insult to Nigerians at-large. Biko, call him to order... No more Mitt Romney gaffes.. grin
now u can see the reason why apc keep shielding him away from debates. Even with well written scripts buhari will still make mistakes ,because he will forget to read them !!!!!

Unfortunately you sound like a child struggling to understand monetary economics.....If you are old enough, I dare ask you, how did Ghana do it?

This is possible within months, governmental policies and structural economic realignment is necessary.

That is one of the stupidest utterances in this election if it is true.

Does this Buhari not understand inflation? He obviously doesn't understand a thing about GDP or the economy...

There is nothing wrong with his statement. The problem is that the mentality of Nigerians are so low that they believe that a president can make the naira equal to the dollars. if we have the right economic policies like reduction of importation and relying too much on oil.

Like I said, the thought of a presidential candidate making such promise beats my imagination. Also, it's next to impossible even with all of Nigeria's economic prowess. Suffice to say even if we worked towards it, Buhari will NEVER be able to achieve such given the constant on ground. Furthermore, a currency equated to the $$$ isn't good for the economy, as in competitive (local consumption and export), ask China and Ghana... opposite sides of the spectrum. Therefore, let's be serious and face real issues... Naira will regain it's value when things become right.
Re: I’ll Make Naira Equal In Value To Dollar, Says Buhari by chronique(m): 11:06pm On Mar 23, 2015
Your comment shows you know absolutely nothing about economics, and also shows you had a poor standard of education. China with all her industrial revolution, military might, technology and strong foreign reserves, doesn't have a currency that is equal to the U.S dollars. As a matter of fact,if the Chinese currency was so stable, they wouldn't have the need to hold their foreign reserves in dollars. China with all her technological advancement,is still classified as a developing nation based on her per-capita income which is lower than that of the U.S by a factor of 10(10 times). Other developed nations like Canada,Japan, and most of western Europe have a difference of 0.1-0.2x of per-capita income, when compared to the U.S. Nigeria hasn't even gotten close to China, yet you and your Buhari want to make naira equal to a dollar. How you intend to go about this,I do not know. Maybe you guys want to use pencil and ruler,to rule across the exchange rate and write "1 dollar = 1 naira" on the board. Maybe you guys want to repeat the Abacha magic where dollar was sold at 22naira to a dollar at the cbn,but was sold at 80naira to a dollar at the black market.

Honestly, the type of utterances Buhari makes about what He'd do to the economy if He wins, scares me a lot. The other day,he said He would stabilize oil prices(globally). Today,he wants to make 1 naira equal to a dollar. Only God knows what He'd come up with tomorrow.

Illiteracy no be moi moi oh!! Ha! So if someone tells you he will equate the value to the dollar you would just swallow it hook line and sinker??
What were you doing when others were attending Economics class??

For the Naira to be equal to the dollar, you would need to see our dollar reserve rate go to something like a trillion dollars!! Even with 20 years of 20% economic growth rate, we would probably not be there!!

Now the bigger lesson for you is that a very strong Naira is not good for our country especially if you want to produce goods and export competitively..
Now let me explain that to you:
A bag of Dangote cement sells for 1500 Naira.
When the dollar was 160 Naira, that bag of cement was equal to $9.
At the new rate of 215 Naira, that same bag of cement is now equal to $7.
That means if Dangote wants to sell his cement in Albania, he has a better price point than he would have had 5 months ago.

Now imagine the Naira is exchanging at 5 Naira to a dollar.
That same bag of cement would now be equal to $300. Where on planet earth would he be able to sell his bag of cement at that price??

Any country that desires to produce and export to the rest of the globe, prays for a weaker currency to allow its goods better pricing amongst competitors. If Buhari understands economics, he will never pray for a very strong Naira except of course he wants us to keep importing everything!!

Unfortunately for your dumbass, this is a democracy, and a democratically elected president cannot jail people. Only a court of law can jail people after due process. Many fools in Nigeria are still thinking that Buhari will get there today and order the arrest and imprisonment of Jonathan the second day, and that is the end of corruption.

If you don't have at least basic education, do not quote me.

Do you know how Ghana did it? They scrapped their old Cedi and created a "New Cedi", because their old one was worth 10,000 to every dollar.

Economics isn't magic and there is this thing called global markets and inflation. If you had basic understanding you would know that

@Poster...are you saying Naira must necessarily be weak? Even if you are a small boy,I'm sure you read that at a time naira and dollar has equal strenght! Go to Ghana and see what has happened to their currency. Look, where there is a will, there is a way.Its just that our corrupt leaders are afraid. They are afraid that their 1million dollar may soon become 1million Naira!!!
