These operations, conducted and coordinated between the different units of the Army and security forces, also allowed the arrest of a great number of smugglers and the recovery of huge quantity of weapons, ammunition, drugs, fuel and prohibited goods.

These results also reflect "the commitment of the Army high command to thwart the evil designs of these criminals and show the professionalism, vigilance and determination of our armed forces to protect the supreme interest of the country and the sovereignty of the national territory," added the report.

"The discovery and destruction of 548 caches and bunkers for terrorist groups, most of them in the 1st and 5th military regions," added the report.

As part of fight against smuggling and organized crime, units of the Army and the different security forces arrested 2,076 smugglers, including 543 of foreign nationalities, and 1,977 gold diggers, most of them (1,274) of African nationalities, said the source.

During these operations "656 weapons held by the smugglers and drug traffickers and 18 weapons held by the gold diggers were seized, in addition to over 1,434 tonnes of foodstuffs intended to be smuggled," added the source.

I just do not trust the americans
I bet you they will hold this up in congress for the next 3 years thereby preventing Nigeria from sourcing better platforms like the versatile russian jet- call sign: "rook"
I actually think attack helicopters is what we need right now.
At the end of this war, just watch how those snakes change the narrative and claim that the only reason Nigeria won this war was because of american "training" and equipment"
*spits* -It's enough to make one puke
By the way Oga Bidexii, i keep on wondering why you choose to use the nomenclature CTCION as opposed to CTCOIN(CounterTerrorism/CounterINsurgency).
Just curious...
Anyway, keep up the good work bro
Cheers!

BOKO HARAM NOW PARADE THEMSELVES IN UNIFORM

As a result of ongoing onslaught against the Boko Haram terrorists in Sambisa forest, the terrorist group has now devised a means of identifying themselves. In this regard, the Boko Haram now wear uniform to blend among locality undetected where they sadly carryout their heinous crime. The recent apprehension of 2 Boko Haram terrorists in uniform near Dikwa in Borno State, is a pointer towards this direction
While the military would sustain the current tempo to further decimate the terrorists, the military is advising the recalcitrant remnant Boko Haram to surrender now and get humane treatment in line with the world best practice.
The members of the public are hereby urged to be wary of this new development and be always alert. Any suspicious persons or object should be reported promptly to the security agencies.

I guess it is good news, but good news that should be celebrated with caution. Why is it now that we seem ready to buy East again (from Pakistan) that our fair weather friends from the West have come around again with their 'cosmetic' smiles? Where were they when our over-used Alpha Jets and Mil choppers were unserviceable and Boko haram took full advantage by building a caliphate in our territory?

Now the battle is virtually over and they are offering us a squadron of attack planes. I am willing to bet that if we reject any of their future questionable offers they will quickly make these aircraft unusable by withholding spares etc. We must be guided!!!

A matter for another day, is that our Army must learn that while air support is critical , we cannot afford to be as defenseless as we appeared in the dark days of late 2014 when our boys seemed to flee at the mention of BH. Quality of equipment has been addressed to a large extent, and must never be allowed to fall so low ever again. However very critical is the issue of tactics we must develop alternative tactics for infantry support when there is no air cover e.g. use of artillery cover for maneuvering infantry, use of Armour support, use of well trained/equipped snipers in over watch positions etc.

In other words, NEVER AGAIN!!!

UPDATE ON OPERATION LAFIYA DOLE

Troops of 26 and 223, Battalions, Army Headquarters Strike Group and Armed Forces Special Forces have continued offensive operations in furtherance of Operation CRACKDOWN. The troops have cleared remnants of Boko Haram in Izza and Njima general area. Although they did not encounter any Boko Haram terrorists, there were noticeable fresh footprints, motorcycle and bicycle tyre marks in the seemingly abandoned places.

However, the troops came across and recovered 8 abandoned vehicles belonging to Boko Haram terrorists. The advancing troops also cleared all Boko Haram terrorists’ hideouts along the way including their camps at Bula Buba and its environs where they recovered 1 Hilux, 1 Canter truck, 15 AK-47 rifle magazines, a 60mm High Explosive Bomb, 200 G3 rifle magazines, 3 Browning Machine Gun tripod stands and a 60mm mortar bipod stand. Other recoveries include several metal links of 7.62mm (NATO) and 12.mm ammunitions.

In their area of operations, troops of 121 Task Force Battalion today, intercepted 35 civilians comprising 6 men, 7 women, 7 males minors and 15 minor females who claimed to be coming from Balaganje village.

However, preliminary investigation reveals that they had been living in Balaganje as captives by Boko Haram terrorists who threatened to kill them if they attempt to escape. They are being investigated further.

In a related development, quite a number of Boko Haram terrorists have continued to surrender. Yesterday, out of 16 male adults that came along with their families to troop’s from Balazala and Ahamdaga Makaranta villages in the Dure district, 7 of them confessed to be Boko Haram terrorist members.

However, on proper interrogation, the suspects confirmed to be Boko Haram terrorists with some of them having specialized trade and status. Three of them were Ameers (leaders) in the Boko Haram terrorist group’s hierarchy; for instance, Hamidu Buba was found to be the Ameer (leader) of tailors, while Musa Buba is Ameer of mechanics and Ali Idrissa, an Ameer of carpenters. The others confessed to be “Rijan” (fighters) adding that they have participated in various Boko Haram attacks on so many villages and towns. They further stated that the ongoing crackdown operation is really taking its toll on them as they can barely survive.

As a matter of fact, they confessed that they were all fed up with the situation which has become worse as a result of Operation CRACKDOWN. They also stated that the Boko Haram terrorists have ran out of food and they now survive on roots and unripe mangoes. They also said 2 of their members sent for food were killed at Frigi crossing point some days earlier by troops, (you may recall that we reported the military’s ambush at the crossing point).

The troops of 122 Task Force Battalion injunction with some elements of 26 Task Force Brigade on receipt of information from some escapees, embarked a clearance patrol to Fadagwe Muni, along Yamtake-Gwoza road. On sighting the troops, the suspected Boko Haram terrorists fled and left behind an abducted 16 year old female cripple. The terrorists also abandoned large stock of grains stored in underground pit. Other items recovered include grinding machine, 2 tricycles and 1 photographs printer. The troops nevertheless pursued the fleeing insurgents and killed some of them.

Similarly, troops of 121 Task Force Battalion also conducted clearance operation at Kadera Dam and Anguwar Fulani, while troops of 192 Battalion that conducted similar operation to Guduf, Nagadio, Duma and Kusarha. The Boko Haram terrorists ran to the top of the mountains and they were engaged heavy mortar fire.

The 7 Division and its supporting elements has also intensified the clearance and rescue operations deep inside Sambisa forest. On Friday, they had encounter with Boko Haram terrorists at Alafa in which they cleared all the
terrorists hibernating there.

The troops in various axis have continued to exploit further till they accomplish the mission of Operation CRACKDOWN.

In a related development, vigilant 7 Division Garrison, have arrested 2 suspected Boko Haram terrorists fuel suppliers with 2 Golf Volkswagen vehicles with registration numbers Borno MAG-112XA and Borno AA739-KBG.They were arrested at NNPC Mega Filling Station, along Damboa Road, Maiduguri at 2.00pm today, Friday, 5th May 2016.

The two suspected Boko Haram terrorists modified the booth of their cars with constructed tanks to take in more fuel for their accomplices hiding in the forests. One of the reconstructed tanks contained150 litres of petrol, while the other was empty.
Both suspects have been handed over to the Joint Intelligent Centre for further interrogation.

Thank you for your kind cooperation.

Broda you av spoken well, I hope we've learn't our hard lesson from the jaguar jets. We must take full precautions these time around around. I keep asking myself "why now"... For me if they really want to help, we should go for new hardwares with agreement signed for spare parts - no compromise.

Kenya: Ending Refugee Hosting, Closing Camps

(Nairobi) – Kenya’s announcement on May 6, 2016 that it would no longer host refugees is contrary to principles it has pledged to respect.

Dr. Eng Karanja Kibicho, interior ministry principal secretary, announced that the government would no longer host refugees and was disbanding its Department of Refugee Affairs, which processes refugee registration. He also said the government would close refugee camps “within the shortest possible time” because of national security concerns.

“In a single breath, the Kenyan government recognizes that the Somalis it has been hosting for nearly 25 years are still refugees, but then states it’s finished with them,” said Bill Frelick, refugee rights program director at Human Rights Watch. “Kenya should not turn its back on people needing protection and on fundamental principles that it has pledged to respect.”

Kenya is home to over 463,000 Somali refugees who fled insecurity and fighting, including by the Islamist armed group Al-Shabaab, which is at war with the government of Somalia. Over the years, many Somali refugees have told Human Rights Watch of Al-Shabaab’s brutal abuses against civilians, and spoken with horror about its violent tactics, including forced child recruitment and suicide attacks. In recent years, Al-Shabaab has also carried out a string of attacks on civilians in Kenya, including killing at least 147 people at Garissa University in April 2015.

Despite the Kenyan government’s frequent statements that Somali refugees in Kenya are responsible for Kenya’s insecurity, officials have not provided credible evidence linking Somali refugees to any terrorist attacks in Kenya. Human Rights Watch is not aware of convictions of Somali refugees in connection with any attack in Kenya. At the same time, Kenyan police have targeted Somali refugees and ethnic Somali Kenyans in discriminatory and abusive law enforcement operations, such as mass arrests and round-ups during Usalama Watch in 2014.

The United Nations refugee agency (UNHCR) has said that Kenya and other governments should not return anyone to parts of south-central Somalia where there is fighting, or that remain under control of armed groups like Al-Shabaab. This formal advice is based on international and Kenyan law, which prohibits the forced return of refugees or asylum seekers to any place where they face a real risk of persecution or other serious harm.

“The threat Al-Shabaab poses in Somalia and Kenya is real, but that doesn’t negate Kenya’s obligation to abide by international refugee law,” Frelick said. “Rather than abandon people it still recognizes as refugees, the Kenyan government should appropriately prosecute those people who have committed crimes and maintain efforts to protect refugees according to international standards.”
