Honestly, I'm tired of these folks and their incessant tears (both SE and SS). They need to give them their own country, as long as the Itsekiris and their land won't be part of it. They are irritants.

They can keep their oil as well. Lagos has oil - if they can explore Lagos Island all the way to Epe, Ikorodu, and Badagry. Then Ogun waterside as well. And apart from oil, there are other things with enormous potentials in the SW.

So, what's the point of being a shiitty country where nothing works - then you have got uncivilised cry babies who have absolutely nothing to contribute apart from run their mouths for lack of achievements and cry everywhere? grin

Been reading through yours and all other contributions here, just want to point out a thing or two....
South South and South East are two different blocks, forget the attempt by some miscreants here to have us intertwined in a face saving relationship, we're as distant/different as there come...South-South stands for a united and prosperous Nigeria and we'd gladly go along with any tribe, region or individual that tows this line, anything else like the fake feeling of warmth encouraged by Barca and co is a no-no for me and other peace loving Nigerians...

Is Jonathan's brain a Pentium 1 brain that he cannot multitask, despite the myriads of challenges that was brought upon him by people and himself?

Jonathan said the pillar of his government were SEerners and not SSerners. What were those SE people doing in 6years. Busy being sycophants they are known for and singing siddon siddon siddon and No Vacancy for GEJ.

PDP had the highest Senators and Reps, why was the Ibaka issue not legislated on, passed into law and gazetted. Once that is done, no government can reverse it. Don't you understand.

Your argument about Akwa Ibom not having the legal right to develop the seaport does not hold water. Lagos conceptualised Lekki Deep Seaport and started it with FG and private investors joining in. First thing first, it was a visionary idea conceptualised by Fashola and they got the buy in of FG and private investors later.

That is a governor that was in the opposition party.

What stopped Akpabio for good 8years from.achieving same? At what time did the leaders of Akwa Ibom paid Akpabio or GEJ a visit, tasking them on the completion of the Ibaka project. None to my best of knowledge.

It amazes me that the government that does not have the time for Ibaka, invested in Lekki Seaport, was eating with 1bn, was buying presidential jets, was doling out dollars to.people.

Let your leaders take responsibility for their inactions and actions. Point accusing fingers at them and not Yorubas.

that is why am waiting to see how the ss and se will play opposition politics which I doubt cos their style of opposition politics here is to whine and cry about the sw and the north depriving them of their daily bread, with the way they are crying now, I see a mass defection to apc in the ss and se in the next three months just watch and see, no be for this naija

Honestly i underestimated the stupidity of you Igbos.

So Asari Dokubo, Tompolo, Ateke Tom and other ND Militants who were vandalising pipelines in the creeks and abducting expatriate Oil workers are all Yorubas, right?

Governor Apabio and President jonathan who ought to have built the Ibaka sea port after spending eight and six wasteful years respectively in office are both Yorubas too, right?

I am sure you Igbos would also blame the Yoruba for the 2nd Niger bridge president jonathan scammed you fl'atheads with

You yoruba ediots need to stop trying to spin lies in order to justify you illiterates daylight robbery. The movement of Oil corporate headquarters to Lagos started even before I was born. Someone already spoke of the date as well as its history on this thread and I'm not about to repeat it just because you are too clueless to read it. The militants, last I checked, started more recently. Even then the corporate well aware of the injustice and thievery of your people such as NLNG in year 2011 decided to move their headquarters from lagos back to PH despite militants rampage at that time. Your f2king brother, obj, tried to frustrate those backing the move aka he tried to stop it.

Like I said, nothing from you people surprises me anymore. You and your people will do ANYTHING to sabotage other regions and states. Therefore, I don't doubt this article not one bit nor disagree you people most likely tried to sabotage any effort made by GEJ and Akpabio

The same reasoning will tell you that Nigerian numbers on the economy are also shaky, how can you dismiss the numbers on Nollywood and rely on the overall GDP figures?

Your Igbo leaders visited him, and he said whatever he said based on his own way. However, with the result of the election - isn't that a proof of how inconsequential Igbo are in Lagos politics?

As for ya question - I'm lost. Re-phrase it and make it clearer this time.

If they were inconsequential they wouldn't have won any LGA's at all. Did any of the other groups get invited to the palace, or did any of the other groups get faced with threats?

Let me give you a better reply.

Have you ever wondered why the Bantu pygmies left West Africa, and moved further East and South of the continent, with the arrival of other African tribes from the Nile Valley and beyond? grin Ezeagu should be able to help you with that, with proper education on the Bantu expansion. grin

Anyway, based on the map of Nigeria, and where Lagos is located - even the greatest military strategists ever will never allow anyone embark on that suicide mission. In warfare - you don't invade, if you can't build layers of defenses, to defend the invasion. Unless you just have a death wish.

Half of the GDP of Nigeria could probably be matched by the contributions of people from Anambra in the informal sector. Your state does not produce anything that Nigeria relies on.

Why do you guys enjoy wallowing in self-delusion to the extent of always disgracing yourselves and your ethnic group? Why always attracting opprobrium to your ethnic group because of your ignorant talk? We know you guys are indoctrinated from the womb to deny Yorubas any glory that meritoriously belongs to them but the garbage you put up there is ridiculous and a figment of your imagination which has been destroyed by the inferiority complex that feeds your delusions of grandeur to see you putting down others while greatly exaggerating your own worth.

Stop your delusional talk and note that the SW has the fastest-growing and number one regional economy in Nigeria. Begin questioning the lies they have told you from birth or prepare for reality to disgrace you in the information age we now live in. You guys are really beginning to irritate now with your prejudiced, unreasonable and hateful nature that predisposes you to telling so much ridiculous lies. Your open and disgraceful show of empty delusions of grandeur only makes me pity you and others. You are nothing but empty and delusional braggarts who think 4x4 shops, second-hand electronics and computer wares from China and petty trading is Dangote or Adenuga level. Nigeria: One Country Four Economies Discussion Points
By
Falalu Bello, OFR

v On the basis of ownership and/or control of resources that make for economic development, post-Obasanjo Nigeria in terms of strength could easily be categorized into 4 economies as follows:

a) South West Economy;

b) South East plus Delta Economy;

c) Northern Economy; and

d) South South minus Delta Economy

v The four economies mentioned above are fairly distinct with each growing at its own pace. The South Western economy is growing at a faster rate than all followed by South East plus Delta economy whilst those of the North and South South minus Delta could at best be described as stagnant. A simple analysis of these four economies is given below:-

a) South West Economy

South Western Nigeria with a Land Mass of 76,852 square kilometres and population of 25.2 million today owns and/or control 60% of the nation’s industrial capacity, 44% of banking assets, 67% of insurance assets and is house to the nation’s three deep sea ports of Apapa, Tin Can Island and Roro; the busiest international airport of Ikeja, three thermal stations of Egbin, Papalanto and Omotosho. Today, its three major industrial estates of Agbara, Ikeja and Otta are all linked to gas under the West African gas pipeline plan and piping of gas is ongoing from Otta to Abeokuta. Added to these, the South Western population today is the most educated as western education came through there and education as a resource was democratized since the early sixties. Geographical location, democratization of western education, availability of resources enhanced in last 9 years and some empowerment during the Obasanjo administration have collectively enabled the South Western economy to rank as first of the four economies in Nigeria. Today, the South West as a region can boast of having a defined growing middle class and is perceived to have at least 20,000 of its indigenes with net worth of over N100m each. Take it out of Nigeria, the South West economy with is defined growing middle class and resources, will be one of the fastest growing economies in the world.

b) The South-East plus Delta

The South Easterners plus their cousins across the Onitsha bridge control commerce in all parts of Nigeria and are thus largely employed. The region has clusters of small scale industries around Nnewi and Aba. The banking consolidation has assisted these people to now have ownership and or control of over 50% of Nigerian banking assets. It also controls 21% of the nation’s insurance assets and 20% of industrial assets. With this development, this region which has not had a commanding control over Nigerian economy will certainly begin to do that now. Commercial activities backed by finance can only grow the economy of South-East plus Delta. The growing strength of financial muscle of this region has been aptly demonstrated by the recent licensing of Micro Finance Banks. Of the over 600 MFBs recently licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Anambra State alone had 74 whilst Yobe State had 1, Sokoto 5, Zamfara 6, etc. There exists also in this economy a middle class which will now grow itself in number and financial muscle and will almost certainly grow its economy inclusive particularly of small and medium sized industrial base.

c) The Northern Economy

The North which geographically is 719,435 Square Kilometers or 79% of Nigeria’s landmass and has 75 million or 53.6% of Nigeria’s population has its economy as a consequence of various reforms introduced, been totally grounded. Today, the North has ownership and/or control of no more than 3% of banking assets and 2% of insurance assets and 10% of industrial assets. True, the North has a huge landmass but this has remained under exploited due to jettisoning of time tested policies of price support (as a result of abolishing of marketing boards without putting alternatives) and abandonment of extension services and quality control. Also, the North has a huge population but the population has remained largely uneducated and/or half educated because of near failure of governance in certain States and Local Governments. Currently its most distinguishing characteristic is grinding poverty. Recent poverty statistics indicate that the poverty level of States in the North has been on the increase in the last 9 years and reached over 80%. Its two commercial and industrial nerve centers (Kano and Kaduna) have seen industrial capacity utilization decline to an all time low of less than 10%. The textile, automobile and beverages companies that thrived so impressively in the 1970s and 1980s have collapsed rendering thousands jobless. Although hydroelectricity is generated at Kainji Dam and in lesser quantities at Shiroro Gorge and at several smaller sites, the entire mechanisms are run on very obsolete equipment and the performance is consequently very epileptic and unsuitable for meaningful economic activity.

d) The South South minus Delta

The South South is largely in the creeks of Niger Delta and has therefore a small land mass of only 48,321 square kilometers and is populated by 13.6 Million people. Notwithstanding the fact that it is house to Nigerian Oil wealth, this region exclusive of oil company activities like the North is also backward economically. It controls no more than 3% of banking assets, 10% of insurance assets and no more than 10% of industrial assets on account of oil related industries that the indigenes do not control. Furthermore, its overstretched land mass has suffered considerable degradation and its aquatic life destroyed. As a region, its people and economy are worst off than the North as it lacks fresh environment, water and even good air to breath.

v Geography, history and particularly the reform agenda of Obasanjo’s regime have created above very dangerous economic structure in Nigeria. By design or by accident Northerners and South Southerners as peoples and regions have been made third and fourth class citizens. We may well choose to ignore these happenings and pretend that they have not happened but doing so will be at the peril of the Nigerian Polity. It is indeed in the interest of the South Westerners and the South Easterners for some affirmative actions to be taken to redress the situation else there will be no real peace in this country moving forward. The so called “religious disturbances” in the Northern States and the Port Harcourt conundrum of kids of less than 15 years carrying guns and terrorizing the population will not stop until these imbalances are consciously addressed and redressed. As the saying goes “where the poor does not sleep because of hunger, the rich too will not sleep because of robbery”.

macjive01:
A high-wired plot to obstruct the actualisation of the Ibaka Deep Seaport project within the deep waters of Akwa Ibom State, by some highly placed persons working in tandem with some officials of the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) has been uncovered.

Daily Sun checks revealed that the plot is being hatched by some opposition (APC) governors and some highly placed Nigerians to obtain an ‘obnoxious letter’ from the NPA with a view to presenting the seaport project as not viable.

The plot, investigations revealed, was designed to ensure that the Ibaka Deep Seaport Initiative does not see the light of day, thereby paving way for development of new seaports in other parts of the country.

It was gathered that the conspiracy against Akwa Ibom State seeks to discredit the seaport project under a ‘non-viability cover’, despite the fact that the Federal Government had set up an implementation committee to facilitate preparatory works and captured the project in the 2014 budget, having been convinced that the port would boost the nation’s economy and that of the West African sub-region.

The Akwa Ibom State Government in collaboration with the NPA is planning to develop a Deep Sea Port within the Ibom Industrial Free Trade Zone to facilitate economic development of the South Eastern part of Nigeria and the Gulf of Guinea.

Checks by Daily Sun further revealed that in December 2012, the government had engaged international consultants to assist NPA in the execution of preliminary technical, bankability and feasibility studies which found the project viable and bankable with proven economic development capabilities within the region.

Sources revealed that the choice of Ibaka for the proposed seaport dated back to 1952 by the British government, and a feasibility study to that effect submitted to the British Crown even before the shallow and inland water ports at Calabar and Port Harcourt were established.

Maritime analysts posited that Ibaka is the most viable location for the seaport, going by the deep sea draught of 16m, which would need no dredging as well as the strategic proximity of the proposed port to the corridors of the main Gulf of Guinea and the commercial cities of Aba and Onitsha, noting its nearness to Exxon Mobil and other major oil concerns as well as the Sao Tome and Principe is a great advantage to the nation’s economic drive.’’

An investment expert advised those plotting the failure to look elsewhere, saying no right thinking government would allow such a huge economic opportunity to be sacrificed on the alter of blind politics against principles of justice and fairness particularly for a state that was the highest crude oil producer and biggest contributor to national wealth.

He said it would be counter-productive to the ongoing Transformation Agenda of President Goodluck Jonathan and a great disservice to both the South-South and West Africa’s hope for economic renaissance.

On the commitment of Akwa Ibom State Government to ensure that the project was a reality, officials of the government said the Akpabio administration had done all necessary preparatory works and that the state had made a huge financial commitment to its realisation, which included and acquisition of 14,400 hectares of land, appointment of transaction advisors as well as the setting up of an implementation committee to help drive the initiative.

State officials said the state governor’s readiness in supporting the Federal Government and other investors to actualise the dream was unshaken.

When the Asaba airport was proposed, Yorubas dominating the aviation ministry did the same thing to deny approval for that project. I remember when these same group of highly tribalistic group were rolling over themselves to prove that Asaba airport was not viable even though it was in far away Delta state, they felt national resources meant for education and bursaries was about to be squandered building Asaba international airport. No such "concern" was expressed about Gombe nor Dutse International airports being constructed at the same time.

Today, Asaba international airport is one of the busiest in the country! The Yoruba tribalists should cover their black faces in shame. Like Asaba airport, Ibaka project will still be completed. It isn't only in Yoruba land that every project must be cited or else propaganda against it as not viable would be started by yorubas

It's only in Nigeria that short sighted, jealous, and criminal tribal antagonism is made an official government policy.
The seaports in New York and New Jersey don't try to destroy or stop work on the seaports of Boston, Charleston, or even LA. Having a working seaport in Ibaka would even help raise the standard of Lagos seaports on the long run, but who has a vision to see this

Where in my post did I "rely" on the overall GDP figures, apart from the Lagos GDP, which is plausible? Nollywood still has a long way to go, to be considered as a proper industry. The whole nollywood thing is like underground hip-hop - inconsequential in the scheme of things

If they were inconsequential they wouldn't have won any LGA's at all. Did any of the other groups get invited to the palace, or did any of the other groups get faced with threats?

Black people make up a meagre 3% of UK's population (I doubt we're upto that cos once you leave London, it's difficult to see black people anywhere else apart from a few other major cities), but we've black MPs who won elections in areas with huge black populations. However, how does that negate the fact that black people are still inconsequential in the overall scheme of things?

Other folks aren't as lousy, covetous, and aggressive as those from the Igbo stock. I guess that was why the King gave them a stern warning. You lot always overestimate ya importance, to be honest.

Hollywood is the biggest propaganda machine and the US biggest face of soft power, the United States government has actively spent money to help studios and to promote them Since WWII.

Whatever tool Hollywood is to the US government has no correlation whatsoever to this discourse. Don't go off on a tangent.

I reiterate: does the US government subsidise Hollywood, the same way Nollywood gets subsidised by the Nigerian government?

Black race dont have to claim any kind of Brotherhood, black skin does not equal brotherhood.

Just see wat blacks are doing in South Africa. I would have thought they would protect the Africans from White and Asians who dominate the social economic/ political sphere of life. The white population wont threaten them with the added African numbers.

No, the cowards cannot step up to the superior White and Asians.

Yorubas are a total embodiment of everything wrong with the black race. Hatred for ones kind, see the way Nairaland shun out tribalistic post on a daily with serious support from yoruba posters.

The reality is shown to you below if only you can ever defer to facts and reality.

Go back and read your entire source again. I told you why you cannot brag about Lagos in this particular instance for the south east, but I'll use your source anyway: "The South Easterners plus their cousins across the Onitsha bridge control commerce in all parts of Nigeria and are thus largely employed."

Keep fooling yourself. The same GEJ who had 5 years in charge of Nigeria yet was only able to show that all he cared about was eating N1 billion food and jetting around in his ten airplanes. If you like attribute all manner of conspiracy theories to the Yorubas but it is now becoming obvious, even to decent Igbos, that many of you have a serious problem.

codedslayer:

Just shut up Bigot, He was there for good 6 years and didnt do anything, so he will now start/finish it in 4years. He was attacked and yet he got 40% of votes from the Sw and won in Ekiti state. Bigots like you are cry babies and think everyone is after them, The Orjis are stealing you blind in Abia state but you are blaming Yorubas for your madness.

For the past 5 years, The president, Finance Minister, SSG,Deputy Senate Pres, Deputy Speaker, Petroleum Mins, and other juicy positions are from the SS/SE. Also, Akpabio collect the highest allocation in this country yet you are blaming the Yorubas for one Seaport. You are a very mischievous and bitter fellow, you can as well blame Yorubas for your mental problem. Rubbish.

For the past 5 years, Ibaka seaport was under planning and design. You don't do that in a day! The design was handed over to the federal government not long ago.
Enugu airport is still under construction and the policy to make it international has been implemented, the first time when power was not under the influence of the Yoruba.

Now what was at stake and why Yoruba fought to remove GEJ?
They want to maintain Lagos dominance, at the same time asking others to leave Lagos. Is it not greed and self delusion of the highest order?

What the Yoruba APC has to do to make Lagos solely for Yorubas.
Complete the Ibaka seaport as quickly as possible since the design is completed and make policies to make it fully operational with no restrictions.
Complete Enugu International airport and formulate policies to make it fully functional.

These are the things GEJ would have done if he got his second term but the Yoruba wanted to maintain the status quo.
You guys really suck!

they will not frustrate that ... that(ibom deep seaport) and the second Niger bridge should be what buhari needs to close the gap between the eastern block and his administration

Leave Buhari and his government out of the distraction of an already signed and in-process contract / project of the 2nd Niger Bridge. Government is a continuum, PDP FG led by GEJ & Ibos got themselves a swanky deal with Julius Berger and contribution from the FG, and Buhari should never touch it except ensure that JB completes the project. Then, Ibos can start paying their toll fees to JB to use it!

The sea port, just like Lekki, is a Lagos State-initiated project with buy-ins from the FG and private sector and no FG will go build a sea port for lazy Ibos who wasted 6 years of their chance stealing the country blind and empowering a few like Oduah, Iweala, Madueke, GEJ, Mama Piss, Pter Oboi, and co!
