For those of you talking about Ore know the facts. First Ojukwu realised that when Murtala marched towards the east that the seat of government in Lagos was exposed as that was the division that was stationed in the west. He saw it as a way to end the war. If he could sack Gowon he could send the northerners out of power and empower the yorubas. Gowon heard the troops had gotten to Ore and was already preparing to flee(true fact). Gowon was already getting ready to evacuate.

Unfortunately the troops were betrayed by VICTOR BANJO, who was put in charge by Ojukuw cause he did not want the yorubas to feel that it was an action against the yorubas and a yoruba commander would ease peoples minds that lagos was coming under siege and was going to be destroyed. Victor banjo turned traitor, and started communicating with Awolowo and stopped the march and almost had the other Igbo commanders who questioned this action almost killed, where some had to escape to avoid death. He stopped at Ore for a good 3 days which was enough time to have gotten to lagos as Lagos was only hours away. He kept communicating to Ojukwu when asked why the delay that all was well.

Eventually after days of stalling and treachery Nigerian troops regrouped and were able to push back. And honestly that betrayal by VIctor Banjo was how that war was lost and countless millions of children lost their lives.

Another lie, shocked

Bros 78 or 72 is an old age when considering the average life-span of a Nigerian man. My Grandpa is 80 he is old, but he is still strong to farm and do strenuous activities...

When our president is 72 or 78 then the youth of today should just forget the notion of being TOMORROW"s leader.

He is not the only 72 year old president, and he would not be the last. Enjoy the next 4 years

"Awolowo died peacefully at his Ikenne home, the Efunyela Hall (so named after his mother), on 9 May 1987, at the age of 78, amid tributes across political and ethno-religious divides."

Show me you own source that says he commited suicide? If not I would say Ojukwu commited suicide and I don't need to prove anything.

What a classic story of the scorpion and Frog.

Scorpion asked that the frog ferry him over the river, the frog was worried that he might be sting by the scorpion, but the scorpion was able to convince the frog of a good behavior. At the end of the journey across the sea, the scorpion lived up to his reputation. The frog in his agony asked, why that was the case, and scorpion responded by reaffirming his nature to sting and sting regardless.

Well, I don't know about empowering Yorubas but I know that Ojukwu's aim was to liberate Lagos from the clutches of the Northerners. Recall that Lagos was Nigeria's capital and it was reasonable for Ojukwu to draw plans of invading Lagos.

Yeah right, like he empowered the mid-west region after invading them and carting off funds in their central bank.

Anyway, who asked the garrulous chest-beating orangutan look-alike long-throated warlord to empower us?

I thought, he was taking his people out of Nigeria but next minute, he's going about occupying other people's land.

But many ibos took part in this free education that their own leader Zik could not provide for them. Yet, you ingrates still have the temerity to label him, a tribalist. Do you know how many ibos were living in Ibadan (never mind Lagos) before and even during the war?
Over 6000 stayed behind and refused to follow oju-iku to his Biafraudland.

Though later rescinded by Awolowo when he heard of it overnight, 5pm on 16th August 1967, the British Area Manager of Electricity Corporation of Nigeria(ECN) received an executive order from Governor Adebayo that he had 48 hours to round up ‘his Igbos’ and send them to the designated collection points. All Igbos in Ibadan were to be rounded up and send to designated collection points as a matter of state policy. The collection point for ECN Igbos was ironically Liberty stadium. Olunloyo College of Education and Government College were the collection points for the estimated 400 Igbos of UCH and 900 Igbos of UI. All 6000 to be rounded up would then be transported via train to Apapa for onward shipment back to the East. According to the American consular, Prof Ade Ajayi, the acting Vice-Chancellor of UI after Prof Kenneth Dike fled, had gathered his remaining Igbo staff and offered to repatriate them with three months’ salary paid in advance.

At two o’ clock that same day, Governor Adebayo played host to the Leaders of Thought gathered in Parliament Buildings Ibadan to discuss Victor Banjo and the developments in the Midwest. Adebayo told the gathering: “He stands firmly by oath to join with colleagues in the federal government to do everything in our power… to work for reconciliation amongst various peoples of the Federation.” Yet on that same day he signed a secret executive order for Igbos to be rounded up and deported from Ibadan. Awolowo told the gathering: “I hold this view quite firmly that the best interests of the Ibos, Yorubas, Hausas, and other national groups will be best served in a reconstituted and reconstructed united Nigeria in which it is impossible for any ethnic group ever again to lord it over any other ethnic group.” So what was the government of the West trying to do about the collection points plan? By the following morning Peter Odumosu secretary to the western government went to those he had served the 48hours to rescind it. He informed Mr Smallwood, the British Deputy High Commissioner in Ibadan who in turn informed the American consular.

If the expedition was that important to Ojukwu, he should have led it by himself. Which battle did Ojukwu hmeslf led? name just one. The same Victor Banjo led the expedition to conquer Midwest, while the bearded one was drinking tea in God knows where.

WHy are you always blaming others for your ineptitude and incompetency?

A yorubaman did not lead you to his homeland -- he is a traitor. When he was joining your Biafra bandits, did you inform him, your compass will malfunction and you will be heading towards his homeland. That is being cunny and he paid you back in your coins. Simple as ABC.

A yorubaman starved Igbo people and they called it treachery, as if he Igbo people were paying him to be feeding them. To others it is stupidity on your part.

Learn to take responsibility for your actions, inactions, and stupidity.
