I believe what the guy is driving at is that the constitution stipulates that at least one minister MUST be appointed from each of Nigeria's 36 States.

It may be difficult for any president to personally know credible people to appoint from every single state of the federation, which means he must at times rely on recommendations/nominations by certain influential people in certain states. This is the rationale for the PDP's tradition of allowing governors recommend ministers. In Buhari's case, if it's not the governors that will recommend, we also hope that it wouldn't be equally discredited political power mongers like Bola Tinubu, Atiku, Saraki, etc? Otherwise, it wouldn't make any difference.
Oh, okay. I grab now. Still, I believe Buhari should be given that onus task of choosing who his ministers would be. After all, he is taking responsibility for his governmentsmiley

The constitution stated governors are to appoint Ministers.
If Buhari want to deviate from that, he needs constitutional amendment.

If he does that without an amendment, then he has broken the law.

If we support him to break the law because it suits us, then the law must be trashed completely and a new one done.

else, he will be teaching us to break the law that nothing will happen.
Anyway, he did break it before and nothing happened.

Whenever he mentions his priority,it doesn't include power,is it that power is not important to him? Majority of Nigerian business owners need power to succeed. Power is what drives the economy, without it we can't have foreigners come and invest in our economy. We need power to be able to function better in our different areas of life.

He always talks about the economy and unemployment. We must understand that these two can not improve without power.

I don't think he is against recommendation.
Then there is nothing new in his stance. Even under the PDP, governors would only recommend, while the final decision on who to appoint was always the president's prerogative. If Buhari claims that he would not allow governors recommend ministers for him, but then allows characters like Tinubu and Atiku et al to recommend their loyalists as ministers, then what difference will it make?

Which section of the constitution states that the governor must nominate or choose the ministers?

What the constitution says is that a minister must be appointed in each state of the federation in addition to another six representing the six geo-political zones.

Abeg don't go there, even Tinubu can never ever insist that he chooses his nominee.

What Buhari is implying is that he is going to appoint only technocrats and not politicians perse and by the word technocrat we are talking about appointees based on their in-depth record of past performance in their previous positions and people who have specified know how about the particular portfolio and not just one politician recommended by any governor or GOD father.

Your version of the constitution dictates that governors should appoint Ministers for the President while they (the governors) in their might should single handedly appoint their own commissioners by themselves abi?
I wonder if Sambisa constitution is the one you are referring to.

There is nothing like geopolitical zones in the 1999 constitution. The concept of six geopolitical zones is an entirely consensual arrangement arising from implicit understanding among the political class across divides.

Stop saying what you do not know. Go and read the constitution , it makes no provisions for Governors to nominate. It only states that every state must be represented in the ministerial list. Na wa for una oh!

It is not commonsensical to make assumptions on Buhari's behalf! Power (and infrastructural development in general) is a major issue that has always ranked among the most pressing problems of Nigeria. If it is a priority for Buhari, he would explicitly MENTION it as a priority. Who are you to tell us on his behalf what he has not told us by himself?

The incoming president, who will be inaugurated on Friday, also gave an indication that he may not continue subsidy in the petroleum sector.

I believe Nigerians will not protest again for fuel ⛽ subsidy removal...

They went against GEJ for trying to remove this very subsidy.
