barcanista: You are right. When you have an injury on your arm that refuses to heal, you have to amputate your arm to save your life. Jonathan caused the injury, the solution is the amputation pains (devaluation of the Naira) we are currently facing now. |

989900: You don't seem to understand the big picture. The West will only buy your crude once you maintain an open market. Since you foolishly depend on oil for everything, it is thus expected that your biggest buyer will expect you to open up your market for their imports. Read the long post I replied you with above on the Haitian economic crisis and see how the US deliberately turned that Nation from a self sustainable rice producer to the biggest importer of US rice imports. The author of the article quoted by OP is against any form of trade restrictions. They want your country to be a dumping ground. It doesn't matter that most of the rice we consume in Nigeria is from SE Asia and India since the commodity is traded by London brokers who stand a chance to lose hefty commissions and also that chances are that one in two shipments will be handled by western merchant vessels. The West stands to lose out on this trade restrictions. The US has laid their demands bare to Buhari that before they can resume buying our crude we must first and foremost return all our foreign reserves to the dollar and stop considering entrying any monetary agreement with BRICs. They have also insisted on guarantee that we maintain the dollar and that we take a juicy IMF loan which will tie us to the dollar for the next 40yrs. Why do you think Buhari is shouting no money when he hasn't even told us what exactly he wants to do with more money and exactly how much he needs to run the country efficiently? Buhari's alarmist call is to prepeare you and your zombie ilk to accept his IMF proposal when he finally sends a proposal to the Senate for approval. This govt you must first remember was supported into office by Obama who was so desperate to get GEJ out of the way by even loaning Buhari his personal campaign manager and Change Mantra. Open your eyes and stop believing every useless lie. The reserves where shared to your respective state governors who complained at one time that there was no need to save during a boom period. I blame GEJ for playing politics with our reserves and still maintaining the wasteful fuel subsidy out of political considerations for his second term. 8 Likes 6 Shares |

NgeneUkwenu:/ You need to go back and study Economics more. When you grasp the concept, then study world politics and global economics. If it is too difficult, study Greece crisis, EU, IMF and what role Goldman Sachs played in the saga. Soludo and Salisu brought showmanship into CBN governorship. That shouldn't be the case. Don't use their celebrity-styled tenures to judge others. \ 2 Likes |

omolami: When will you people stop this tribal rubbish. This is one of the main reason Nigeria is still back wards. If a man is doing right or wrong should we not say it the way it is. Or if a yoruba man is doing wrong should we call it right because he is yoruba or if an igbo man does the same it automatically becomes right or wrong based on his or her ethnic background. I tell you the truth from where I stand Nigeria still has a very LONGGGGG way to go in other to meet up with the rate of development in other countries. If a man does wrong in office weather he his Jonathan for the East or Buhari from the north or Fashola from the south, please lets stop this attitude of Judging thing based on his ethnic back ground or putting people in office because purposeless reasons. And if they do right lets appreciate them irrespective of tribe as well. If the CBN Governor is doing things wrong please let him get out of the place and lets get competent people in the position weather yourba, Igbo or hausa. If you ask me "I AM TIED OF THINGS NOT WORKING IN NIGERIA". All this things don't cost us any thing to fix. Lets get a round peg in a round hole PERIOD. And Not A square peg in a round hole and say because he his from so so so, then its just ok. 1 Like |

NgeneUkwenu: U spoke right It is recommended that the disparity between the official and parallel market should not be more than 3% or you encourage round tripping Its now more than 10% This foriegn exchange restrictions are harming commerce which is a main driver of the economy |

Sultannayef: what is wrong with devaluing the currency? Cant you see that the black market rate is 230 which is truer gauge There is nothing wrong with devaluation. It is a corrective measure, it makes imports more expensive thereby reducing demand for forex At the same time, it makes your goods more competitive encouraging exports which hep to eventually strengthen the currency again |

NgeneUkwenu:What is wrong with you guys when it comes to rumour and half baked breads? Did the CBN governor truly place band on those 40 intems? He never for once did rather he is doing what is fit for the country and Naira as a CBN governor which is to protect the local currency since too much Naira are chasing dollar which causes the spike in the price trend... He is protecting the domestic baby industry which is the way forward because most of those products junked into Nigeria are either produced here or their raw materials are found here and he is acting in accordance with the Nigeria Custom Service because all those products are labelled contraband in this country. He only told importers that CBN won't further encourage them to kill our economy via ForEx which is good for government not being hypocritic and encouraging the right by the NCS..... What about Devaluation? Im OBJ's regime C. C. Soludo was spearheading devaluation but OBJ turned it down because he wasn't put to line first before the airing and Ghana adopted it and devaluayed their currency severally so can you tell us the value of Cedis before the devaluation and the value after the devaluation? The devaluation of the Nigeria currency came at the right time when the currency was loosing it value seriously due to Oil price slope.... To much Naira is chasing few dollars and we can't continue to encourage it if we truly want to grow.... |

NgeneUkwenu: You don't know what you are saying. In plain terms you want the remaining reserves (savings) spent on toothpicks and pampers. And then when critical demands of energy, debts and industry demands you give them hot air. If you have betteralternatives to devaluation, interest rate rises and import restrictions, speak. |

LeOstrich: eave NgeneUkwenu ane She is crrect Most people only quote the ugly "side" of free trade or trade liberalization but not the good side. Protectionism makes you poor. Countries do not grow rich by producing things. Rather they grow rich by focusing resources on where they have on comparative advantage. And again imports are good for you. Rice and wheat imports provides livelihood for millions of Nigerian. The import duty they paid runs int tens of billions. |
