Why is it only illegal refineries that Ben Bruce is advocating for legalization? Why not illegal radio and TV stations, what about illegal cinemas? do they not deserve legalization also? There are also lots of illegal fake drinks and drugs producers, should we not scrap NAFDAC and legalize them all?

Honestly, this Ben Bruce should start thinking more before he talks. Being a senator is not about theatrics and saying things that may seem clever only at the surface.

So if Ben Bruce is the President of Nigeria, is he telling me he will reward criminals caught indulging in serious act of criminality, by operating illegal refiniries by legalizing them.

I say serious because you need to ask yourselves where this illegal refiniries get the crude oil they refine from. Of course, illegal refiniriries is closely linked oil bunkering and pipeline vandalism which costs the nation hundreds of millions of dollars in resources.

So anywhere you find illegal refiniry, you legalize it. Ofocourse more will just popping up.

This guy is beginning to talk as if he has no common sense, seriously.
Now it is illegal, but once it is legalized it is legal. Thereafter, anyone who wish to start, will obtain operation license. Simple.

And you think to these illegal "refiners" are unaware that licences are necessary to operate a proper refinery. You think to obtain operation license is free. You also think they can run a legally licensed refinery on stolen crude by bursting pipelines?

That is what you fail to understand. If it is legalized, government will make sure the crude is made available for refining. Or do you think givernment will issue license to them without putting things in order? Just as the crude is made available for other refineries, government can also make the crude available for them if that happens. That will stop pipeline vandalism.

Are you joking? You want government to make sure crude is available to "private refineries", what do you want government to do? Build pipelines from from government storage facilities to all the private refineries or load crude unto trailers to supply the refineries. It is government's duty to suppy crude to its own refineries and not private refineries.

Government's duty is to sell the crude to the refiners, how it gets to the refineries is the business of the private refiners, just like any other product you buy from the open market.

You are still holding on stupidly to this legalize illegality nonsense.

Who is operating the illegal refineries? What are their methods, practices, source of crude, skills etc? Are they positioned to actually provide jobs for Nigerians or will their products will go straight from refineries to black market.
What we could do is to allow private sector involvement in the refining business and ensure proper regulation so results can be controlled. Legalizing what is currently referred to as illegal refineries, which I imagine would be a set of hazardous and substandard setups may not be advisable.
