HopeAtHand: Thanks bro. The present day Igbo land be it Ndokwa, Andoni, Ikwerre, Anioma,Ika, and others even the present Igbo hinterland still have other influences like Bini, Ibibio, Ijaw, Igalla, etc. Anybody that disagrees is living on illusions because we can't rule out those cultures. They are even our brothers cos we have many things in common. 1 Like |

Udmaster: It is generally believed that a greater part of Ebonyi State, especially from Afikpo down to Isiagu are migrants from Cross River. Afikpo and Akaeze dialect can attest to that. I don't want to talk about areas like Izzi, Ikwo and Ezza. Your claim that many Igbo groups are descendant of Eri may not be absolutely correct.... 2 Likes 1 Share |

nerilove: You see, I'm from Enugwu-ukwu and according to the story, Nri had sons and a daughter. When his sons were all grown up they began to leave their father's house one by one. The first son left and founded Enugwu-ukwu, another son left and founded Nawfia (N'ofia a - in this bush), another Osunakidi (from 'o sugo gi n'akidi', later changed to Enugwu-Agidi because the people did not like the 'osu' part of the name. It is said that this particular son of Nri loved eating akidi so much that when his father, Nri, came to visit him, he found him eating Akidi as usual and then he said to him, 'O sugo gi n'akidi', and that's how the name stuck.) etc. However, one son of his never left and remained behind with his father in his homestead and that son was the last born and that is Agukwu-nri. Agukwu-Nri is said to be where Nri settled in. By virtue of being the first son of Nri, Enugwu-ukwu town houses the Ofo of Nri (Ofo Nri) and the Igwe of Enugwu-ukwu Nri is said to be the Igwe of Umunri (king of Nri descendants). By seniority, Enugwu-ukwu is the most senior, however the last born son never left his father's stead but settled there till after Nri died and took over the affairs of the place. 3 Likes |

Bigmarx: Is this the sweet smell of vindication... tonyebarcanista HopeAtHand oya come ooo food don ready!! Igbos are at each other's throats over their origin hehehehehehehe I and my other Ikwerre brothers have been vindicated by this post. I remember engaging some Igbos on NL about my ancestry and their false claim of Port Harcourt, they almost ate me. When I told them that Ikwerre has its roots from Bini and Ikwerre is the last son of the three sons of Akalaka - an exiled prince of Bini empire, some called me yoruba lol. Well, it's customary to know your roots and history in my family, it's a rite of passage passed down from father to son. these people should first understand themselves before they think of "grabbing lands" Bigmarx kudos my brother.. from your post on this thread I can tell we have a lot in common... is the village Rumuo*o*o? I'm guessing it's in one of the twin kingdoms that make up Obio in Obio/Akpor LGA In PH?? |

HopeAtHand: There is nothing new you came here to learn. Your being Ikwerre or not totally does not relate to this subject matter in anyway and the OP never mentioned Ikwerre in his post. Your mentioning being Ikwerre on a supposed Igbocentric forum on a subject matter about the Igbos you claim you don't belong to is pathetic to say the least. I am a very direct person and I tell it to people just as it is. You love attention and that's what it is. 5 Likes |

gykes: When i saw that some parts of Imo state has their roots from Ikwerreland, i became fascinated with the thread. The position of the subject matter of Igbo originating from a single town isnt feasible at all. I wouldn't call it a part of the usual Anambra egocentric assertions but the claim is abit too far fetched. The existence of diverse dialects alone is a pointer that the origins of the totality a particular tribe cannot be from one source. 1 Like |

Udmaster:Dat is a wrong assertn, guy! In terms of antiquity, how will u compare Nri (Eri) which startd in 900AD to d Ogiso Dynasty of Benin (Aka Kingdom) which began frm around 600AD and lastd uptil 900AD when it collapsd? There ar even insinuations dat d legendary Igbo "Eri" was an "Aka" (Benin) royal priest/warrior who left d ancient "Aka Kingdom" (Beninland) followin d collapse of d Ogiso Dynasty in 900AD, and migrated east wit his party where he founded a new domain/kingdom in d present day Aguleri/Umuleri areas of Anambra State. It is also probable dat d priestly kingdom establishd by Eri was later named "Eri-Aka" by his followers in remembrance of ancient "Aka Kingdom" where they migrated frm! |

HopeAtHand: Its clear to you now that Igbos have a lot in common with Ikwerre. I was at Ogbakiri, echichi emoh precisely, (please pardon my spelling if it is wrong) late last year for a burial, and I was amazed when I saw the Oboni cult on display. I was thinking Oboni is peculiar to Igbos alone. Though its funny, when one of the guys explained to me that the culture was exported to Igboland from Ikwerreland. 2 Likes |

bigfrancis21, dont run away, come and tell me why i wouldnt mention Ikwerre here. Are you not a member of the gang that go about on NL claiming Ikwerre is Igbo. So why do you think Ikwerre shouldnt be mentioned on this thread. Maybe u feel threatened by the truth. Well, going by your analogy that all Igbo originated from NRI and Ikwerre history has it that Ikwerre originated from Akalaka, ita safe to reaffirm that Ikwerres aint Igbo. Thanks.. 1 Like |

okwadatigbogal: I think You're letting the "_dick measuring contest" MO of propagating the greatness of a community in their history deceive you.. No Igbo community lived as an independent community.. They always seek help of other communities if need be. And in spiritual matters, Nri was always the last port of call. Aro Confederacy is the most popular of all Igbo communities. Not because they are the most powerful military wise or spiritual wise but because their story is one of the very few stories about Igbo history that was recorded. Ibini Ukpabi shrine was like a spiritual supreme Court of the Aros.. Each community had theirs too.. But in certain dire situations, they seek external help.. and the Aros were not an exception 2 Likes 1 Share |
