■ Condemns activities of herdsmen

FROM DAVID ONWUCHEKWA , NNEWI

THE Bishop, Methodist Diocese of Onitsha, Rt Rev B.L. Onuagha has bared his mind on the state of Nigerian nation and noted that the amalgamation of 1914 has not favoured the Igbo, appealing to the world leaders to listen to the South East and break, off “this monster called amalgamation.”

This was contained in the Bishop’s address to mark the 14th annual diocesan synod of the church. Bishop Onuagha said since the amalgamation was not working in the interest of the components of the federation that the best option should be to dissolve it based on the fact that, according to him, a section of the country was suffering enslavement.

The Bishop cited the activities of the Fulani cattle herdsmen who he said had displaced communities, killed, maimed and burgled the people with impunity and government would remain complascent. He described it as an indication that some people were not wanted in the marriage. The synod enjoined the Federal Government to make enabling law as regards grazing in Nigeria to avoid bloodletting between the herdsmen and farmers in Nigeria.

“Amalgamation has brought about the erosion of human dignity, the enslavement of a section of the people in the name of one Nigeria. This deadly monster has led to the loss of millions of lives of Igbo and no one is talking about the genocide. Yes, our culture and that of those in question are not the same. Our language is not the same, our customs, our tradition, our faith and our education are not the same. Our values are at variance. Then, why must we be forced to be in a marriage that we do not want and we see that it is not favourable?” the Bishop queried.

He said he was not surprised that a group was crying for separation from the unholy marriage forced on Nigeria by the British government in 1914.
The Bishop noted that even in the entity called Nigeria, there is extreme hardship to the extent that the naira would soon become a piece of paper if not checked. He said fuel was fast becoming a scarce commodity to the extent that the poor could not afford it in a nation that exports crude oil.

He said the synod urged the Federal Government to tread with caution in her quest to deregulate the petroleum sector in order to avoid further sufferings of Nigerians, adding that the refineries should be made to work in full capacity.
“The cost of living is rising daily, as the central government is busy witch-hunting individuals in the name of fighting corruption,” he said.

On Anambra State, the Bishop expressed satisfaction with Governor Willie Obiano, whose government is doing well in providing security, agriculture, education, infrastructure and other social amenities.

Can a country like Nigeria break without a war?? i doubt that!

#Modified!

for those saying Cezcoslovakia, Yogolasvia and Soviet Union broke without war, all i'm saying is, those ones're learned/civilised people..

i mean this is Nigeria where; security men kills innocent civilians, villages're conqured in broad daylight, pedophiles kidnapping girls, polictician builds bore hole with N100m and so on with little or nothing done about it..

One Nigeria is...ALL ABOUT OIL! They have ravaged most of the oil in the SS; nearly 80% of their proven reserves depleted, environment polluted now they are heading into SE. Imo, Abia and Anambra. Anambra has the largest oil and gas reserves in Nigeria followed by Imo and Abia...the irony is Nigerians don't know this. Even Igbos don't even know this! They hide this from us!

We can pretend all is well but remember...when a situation or condition reaches critical mass, THERE IS NOTHING YOU CAN DO TO STOP IT!

Evidence below...understand this doesn't include Anambra as the study was done before Anambra oil fields exploration was completed. Now, 80% of the oil in Rivers state is in Igbo speaking areas , coincidentally these areas were carved out of Old Imo state...present day Imo and Abia, that's why the people there SPEAK IGBO. Nigerians don't know this!

Nigeria Oil Source
Onshore... Anambra, Imo, Abia and Rivers.
Offshore and swamps...Akwa Ibom, Bayelsa and Delta.

Evidence they don't want US to see!

The worst part of it is the fact that the country totally rely on the crude oil from the south south & south east zones but the people of these zones have always been regarded as third class citizens in a country they should be a major stakeholder.
The only time someone from this part of the country "miraculously" became the President (GEJ), they never gave him any rest of mind throughout his tenure as they practically made the country ungovernable for him. He sought for a second term in office which every other President enjoyed (Shagari & Obj); but they conspired to work against him.

Someone should tell all the evil men in this extraction called Nigeria that God is not sleeping

South South oil is a major unifying factor, no region will want to abandon this without a fight even though they know how different we all are in almost everything.

That is so narrow and I think Igbos are just selfish. Even the Yorubas are not happy are constantly applying for decentralization of power in nigeria. I am for that not breaking up. Stop being selfish please. Everyone from middle-belt to Yoruba has been suffering northern oppression in this country.

One Nigeria is not about only about oil. Most Importantly about the religious distribution of states. If Igbo goes then Nigeria is pre-dominantly muslim. Nobody wants that Yoruba will go and Middle belt will go. It will lead to war and deaths of millions. Stop this please. If you want decentralize power it will help a lot.

It is either Decentralize power or North goes. How about us middle belts always classified as North, when we are north. We are used to get power but get thrown away when the northern allocation comes in.

You must be stooopid. What is hard in "I don't want to have any relationship with you". Which part of the sentence don't you understand? Igbo's want to be on their own, is that a hard thing?

Bishop, why this sudden agitation for break up?
I think some of the proponents of secession/disintegration have a lot to do in convincing the critical majorities of Nigerians to see their reasons because as it is the agitation is lacking in morality and honestly, rather anchored on hatred, bitterness and frustration to compete politically after a Miscalculation.

The 1914 amalgamation hs really caused a great deal of problm. Middle belt shouldn't hav been allocated to the north.

Muslim nd Christians shouldn't hv been join.

Joining xtians nd Muslim thinkin u want to create good relationship is a waste of time. Its lyk mixing sand with garri. Smh.

Let's assume for a second that oil was the driving factor. So what? Then, can't u maintain your dignity as a human being and/or a group and call their bluff? The Igbo you are talking about, till date, were shoved out of the political machinery that controlled the oil.Yet they are a mammoth force in Nigeria.

The issue is people like u and the non Easterners lacked dignity. That's why the Igbo and the Eastern Nigerians see u guys as incapable elements who can't take care of themselves. FACT.

The Bishop is a red necked agama lizard.

There are over 200 ethnic nationalities in the country but because up in his stupid head the union doesn't seem to favour just one, it should be called off. Even ethnic minorities are showing a lot more maturity than some supposed elders.

Was the country just amalgamated yesterday?? Where was his voice during Jonathan's regime?? Did the herdsmen crisis begin yesterday?? Where was he between 2011 and 2015??

One day you want out of the union, the next day you wanna be the president, acting as though there's a Nobel prize for stupidity for which you are strong contender. And who says break up is a "sure banker" for peace??

Some people are just irritatingly foolish.

Those who wants out of Nigeria have always stood tall on their arguments. And this is largely because of the silly counter arguments by people like you. The voice of any one of the ethnic groups, at any time, should matter and should be respected!

Instances are abound of countries that continually reaffirm the state of their union through dialogues and referendum.

1914...? So, no group have the right to opt out of a union put unilaterally together by another country 8000km away? Tell me you were joking.

Look, the easy way to win hearts is to tell the people what they have so far gained being in Nigeria. Outline for them the things they will lose if they should miss the Hausa Fulani leadership of Nigeria. How being fellow citizens of Nigeria has rewarded them in terms of safety of lives and social interaction. Oh, dont forget to tell them the extent we've gone in achieving shared values visavis nation building since 1914. Give them instances of those shared values....Cos according to you , the country was not amalgamated yesterday...Thus the Hausa Fulani and Ndigbo, for example, must have had many shared values.

I am in pleatue I was discussing with a few Tiv men they referred how Hausa used them to fight civil war they are so regretting it one started crying .he tolde God is with Igbo and look at how far they have come back and look at middle belt how Muslim is killing them. It is now that I realise that you guys and Yoruba are using Igbo as check and balances ..but one thing is that you can stop and ideologists but you can't stop an idea

If Igbo wants to go..it isn't by force to stay with you guys

...I think we are just tired.we don't need the presidency we need to be on our own

Some fools will soon rush in here to criticize the position of this bishop. I have noticed that majority of the youths in Nigeria are so confused and many too have been brain-washed to an extent where they no longer know their left from their right! Even kids that were born in less than two decades ago will still come here to spew trash when they didn't even open their Government and History textbooks in secondary school to know the true positions of things in this artificial/fake country called Nigeria!!!

I have developed a new attitude towards people I personally know that supported this useless political party called APC in the last elections. Whenever they come complaining near me about the bad leadership and not getting what they were expecting, I just quickly get up and leave the scene to allow them wallow in their self-inflicted lamentation!!! No time for rubbish! angry You must eat the cake you baked! Nansense!!!

Nigeria, as presently constituted, is no longer viable.

It is a case of restructure or die.

This is the 21st century where people
are demanding liberty and inclusiveness above other considerations.

It is time to tell ourselves the truth as self-deceit is the worst form of deceit.
