The hardmen is not going to dictate to us how will want the to operate in the south. If they are not comply with our conditions they should take their cow back to their place we don't need their nama.

You guys don't understand that this is not about cows, grazing or meat. It's about an agenda to take over by establishing pockets of islamists all over until they possess all territories.
This is only a diversion.

There is a great difference between the cattle in this ranch and that of President Buhari.

What is Mr President not doing well?

Make no mistake, if President Buhari can be comfortable with malnourished Cows then you and I are no exception. Fulanis value their cattle more than human lives hence there is no time for sycophancy, join the constructive wailing team for a change.

Well said. I was shocked to see him with his malnourished cows...says alot about him.

SOMETHING BIGGER HAD BEEN DONE BY OSUN IN 2012 BUT IT DID NOT STOP THEIR CRAZINESS.MAYBE IF EACH STATE DOES IT SHA!

GOVERNOR Rauf Aregbesola at the weekend
launched a 78.4-hectare, 10, 000- capacity cattle
ranch aimed at meeting the beef demand of Osun
State as well as the entire South-West when fully
operational.
Similar but lager ranches would also be
established in Ede and Ejigbo.
He specifically launched the Osun Beef Production
outfit (O’Beef). At the commissioning of the ranch
located at Oloba Farm Settlement in Iwo, he said it
was meant to boost agriculture and mass food
production and processing.
Meanwhile, Aregbesola has declared that the
country would remain poor despite the huge
income from crude oil as long as the leaders fail to
properly utilise the income to generate
employment.
Speaking at the Education Conference of the
National Union of Textile, Garment and Tailoring
Workers of Nigeria (NUTGTWN) held in Osogbo, he
stated that it was an illusion to claim that the
country is rich.
The governor said: “As a government we must be
able to produce the food we eat. A government
cannot be said to be good if it is incapable of
feeding its own people. In Lagos alone, 6,000
cows are slaughtered daily and no state in South-
West produces a single one. All these animals
come from the North. We intend to target just 10
per cent of the Lagos market.”
For a start, the ranch, which is being managed by
a South African expert in conjunction with IITA and
Faculty of Agriculture, Obafemi Awolowo University,
has 1,500 cattle sourced locally.
According to him, 30 foreign species called the
Zambian Boran, would be introduced to the ranch
with a view to genetically crossbreeding them with
local ones to get a new indigenous specie. When
fully in operation, the ranch, which will be run on
public private partnership basis, will have modern
abattoir that offers services to the people at a
lower rate.

That was exactly thought when I saw the update about the ranching thing.

And somehow, only Anambra is refusing the so called grazzing bill
free grazing bill makes it free for dem to graze anywhere without payment but dis anambra approach will confine them to one place and at the same time they will pay for the grass their cattle ate

The easiest way to kill nomadic system of cattle rearing is by doing what these Ranch guys did.
It will provide cheaper, more hygienic meat and fish and put herdsmen out of business.

Okay, open grazed cattle provide much better meat, milk and other nutrients than locked up cattle. Also foot and mouth disease and other issues are some of the negative effects of locking up cattle. Except in Europe where things are driven by the milk industry , no serious livestock farmer would lock up cattle . Ted Turner of CNN fame bought 000s of acres for his Bison just to assure the quality of steak served at his steak houses for instance.

Open grazed cows provide leaner meat which is healthier than what you get from locked up cows. My point is against nomadic rearing of cattle. I'm all for buying land fencing it and letting your cattle free roam.

It is true a lot of Fulani herdsmen usually engage in burglary and armed robbery to make ends meet when they are broke...these guys are criminals!

ckmayoca:

No it can't get them out of business but they will rather drop thier prices and some butchers will patronise them. They sometime rob to generate cash so they will still be in business and want to a way to fight and hurt others

No one argued that rearing cattle will be the only solution. I'm sure Op and others assumed that cattle rearing would be part of a three pronged attack i mean defense. Lobbying to kill the grazing bill and protesting to stop the outmoded practice of cattle droving, goes without stating.

YES...

http://osun.gov.ng/2014/10/02/photo-news-inauguration-sales-ram-osun/

We have UPPER OGUN RANCH TOO....

At Upper Ogun Ranch, 604 steers were raised from
birth to 40 months on natural pasture grazing
without supplementation between 1957 and 1963.
Their final weight averaged 283 ± 19 kg, with an
average daily gain of 221 g (Steinbach and
Balogun, 1973). Steers born during the early part
of the rainy season (March April) averaged a daily
weight gain 14 g higher than those born during the
dry season (December - January). Steers finished
during the dry season averaged a daily weight gain
10 g higher than those finished during the rainy
season, irrespective of their month of birth.

What are you even saying? You obviously don't know what you're saying at all. So you think fattened grain fed cows produce healthier meat than grass fed free roaming cows? I guess you don't know that doctors recommend lean pullets for older people rather than battery poultry chicken you think is the ultimate. The key words are fat and cholesterol.

You should not go about calling people archaic or backward.

Before investing your hard earned funds in the cattle fattening production, you and your partner should come up with appropriate measures to prevent theft. I have seen a farm that lost all its cattle in one night from theft.
