Niger Delta Militants Push Global Oil Prices To $50 – Highest In 2016 by 2sexycom(m): 1:10pm On May 26, 2016
Oil prices eventually rose to a 2016 high on Thursday morning, hitting the highly anticipated $50 a barrel mark, following disruptions in Nigeria’s production levels.

The prices rose to a 7-month high on Thursday, as Brent, the global benchmark for crude oil, traded at $50.26 per barrel.

West Texas Intermediate (WTI), US oil, also rose to a 2016 high at $49.56 per barrel.

The price of Organisation of Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) basket of thirteen crudes stood at $44.02 a barrel on Tuesday, one of its highest points in 2016, according to OPEC secretariat calculations.

This is coming on the wings of disruptions in production from Nigeria, Africa’s leading oil exporter after Angola, saving the world an oversupply of 800,000 barrels per day.

Earlier in the month, Ibe Kachikwu, minister of state for petroleum resources, said disruptions led by militants is costing the nation as much as 800,000 barrels per day, reducing production to 1.4 million barrels per day.

Niger Delta Avengers, the major group responsible for the disruptions in the region, has carried out over four different attacks on oil terminals within two months.

The Energy Information Administration (EIA) data has shown that the disruptions can cost Nigeria as much as $1 billion in May 2015.

Not wholly true. Its more of an effect from the fires that disrupted oil production in Alberta, Canada. Remember that canada produces more oil than Nigeria.

Funny the mass defection if @Niger Delta Avengers is to recruit soldiers. Nice support they've got out here. I'm yet to see a S/E S/Sner condemn them.

angry By now the Niger delta skies ought to be filled with helicopters and bomber Jets from the Nigerian airforce so they can do reconnaissance and possibly eves drop on the militants by monitoring their communications. These ragtag militants from the 5% region should not be allowed to hold the country to ransom. Buhari should give a shoot at sight order to the military so the avengers can pee in their pants. if not for the innocent people living in the Niger delta, I would have recommended a total leveling of the region if necessary. We the SW and core North are the only region not disturbing the peace of Nigeria. The 5% people are just a pain in our asses. angry

we southerners were blaming the northerners for not speaking out against Boko Haram. Please all Niger Deltans should speak out against Niger Delta Avengers because Nigeria can't move forward this way and development can't come to the region this way.

Which work? What are you feeling? Where's the gain when oil price goes high, and we cannot produce up to 500,000 barrels per day? Now kaduna refinery has stopped work. If the avengers continue like this, there will not be enough profit for Nigeria even with this high price.

Think again.

The Fort McMurray wild fire is responsible for this rise.

I think the fires pushed it up beyond $40 and up to $46-$47. Nigeria's production cut of 800,000barrels did the rest.
