Godwin Saviour star of Week 7 in Belgium

Nigeria forward Godwin Saviour has been named the star of Week 7 of the Belgian second division after he helped his club to a third straight win at the weekend.

The 20-year-old forward did not score when KSV Roeselare defeated Union Saint-Gilloise 2-1, but he was the best player on the park.

It has been a remarkable progress in three weeks for the Nigeria U23 international after a subdued debut in a 4-1 thrashing at Tubize in Week 4.

Saviour may now have scored two goals, but it has been his overall play that has caught the eye since his arrival from neigbours KV Oostende, who feature in the top league.

He plays with the team and his runs create space for his teammates to operate better.

Thanks to his influence, Roeselare are now second on the table with 11 points from seven matches, four points behind leaders Lierse.
Both teams clash at Lierse Sunday morning.

STORY OF MU’AZAM: Rated Above Success & Iheanacho In 2012, An Eagle Waiting To Soar

Not so many can flash their mind back to four years ago when the all conquering Nigeria Under-17 team of 2013 was been assembled by coach Manu Garba.

In 2012 one name stood head and shoulders above his peers, Ibrahim Alhassan aka Mu’azam was the talk of the team. He earned himself the nickname “New Kanu”, given to him by no other than the former Sport Minister of Nigeria Bolaji Abdullahi.

Abdullahi gave him the moniker after seeing the way the baby faced assassin took teams apart in friendly games and in their qualifiers against Niger Republic, where he scored a hattrick.

Tall, lanky and full of tricks, the nickname truly fits the young man who provoked memories of legendary Nigeria football star Kanu Nwankwo. Who also gained global attention after starring for Nigeria at U-17 level in 1993.

However what would have been the best pedestal for the then 16 year old to launch himself to the world, was truncated when he failed the mandatory age test for U-17 players.

His failed MRI test opened the door for the likes of Watford big money buy Isacc Success and Manchester City teen star Kelechi Iheanacho to make the step up as leaders of the team.

He returned to the team two years later when they graduated to U-20 but after a bit part role at the Africa Youth Championship. He was dropped from the World Cup squad.

While two of his former understudy are now part of the Nigeria senior national team.

Mu’azam has just six months of professional football under his belt, no thanks to so many disappointments beyond his control and, a now healed knee injury.

Now at Nigeria Premier League side Wikki Tourist. The Kano state raised ace who missed out on three deals to take his trade abroad two years ago, insist he is still focused on making the most of his career.

”I’m not at all bothered. Am focused on making the most of my career. Have made mistakes in the past aside the disappointments of missing out on the various youth teams of Nigeria” He told popular Kaduna journalist Mohammed Suleiman.

”The career of Iheanacho and Success inspires me a lot, I see them as my role model, by that I mean if they can be playing at such a high level, very soon I will join them Insha Allah.

”I have no regret about what happened in the past. The future matters most above all, and that’s where I want to focus on”.

CSKA Moscow Offers Second Trial Chance To “New Ahmed Musa” & Sani Suleman

According to reports exclusively gathered by Owngoalnigeria.com, the Nigerian duo of Bobai Bonet Junior and Suleiman Sani will be handed a second chance by Russian side CSKA Moscow.

They both had trials with the Russian side few months ago without bagging a deal, but report has it that they will once again try out with the team in the future.

”So many things didn’t go right with the trials. The club recognised that and they are willing to give them a second chance” He told Owngoalnigeria.com.

”The weather wasn’t friendly to them when they went for the trials, am not so sure but I think sometimes when it’s warm, they could return for further assessment by the club”.

Junior is widely regarded by associates as a prototype of CSKA Moscow former star Ahmed Musa, who made a record move to Leicester City this summer. Sani is a quick feet lighting forward who uses both feet to good effect.

The trials was organised for them by popular Nigerian intermediary Babawo Mohammed after a scouting tournament organised by the Jos born agent.

Little Known Nigerian Teen Sensation Ogochukwu Frustrates Anderlecht In UEFA Cup Tie

Belgian giants Anderlecht were frustrated from picking up all three points in the UEFA Youth League by Danish side FC Midtylland in a 0-0 draw, with Nigerian Frank Ogochukwu starring for the Danes.

Ogochukwu spotting jersey number 18 played just in front of the defence of his team and, the teen midfielder broke up lots of incursions made by Anderlecht in their search for a goal.

He was also quick in turning defence into attack, making use of the ball while in possession with smart piece of skills that helped him turn away from his markers with ease.

18 year old Ogochukwu is angling to join a long list of Nigerian players who have featured for the Danish side in the last five years, with the duo Rilwan Hassan and Paul Onauchu still in the first team.

Midtylland also had another Nigerian on the bench for the entire duration of the game in 18 year old forward Samson Omonigho. A testament of their rich connection with Nigerian players.

Sporting Lisbon Eye Nigerian Striker Theophilus Solomon As Hamburg Sends Scouts To Croatia As Well

The fine form of HNK Rijeka loanee Theophilus Solomon has caught the attention of more European based side with Sporting Lisbon and Hamburg, the latest side to be interested in him.

Solomon has been one of the driving force of modest side Istra, where he has struck four goals from six games aside picking up several man of the match awards.

His impressive form has also earned him two team of the week nominations from the first six games of the season in Croatia, where he is finally living up to the promise that made Rijeka snap him up as a 16 year old three years old.

Owngoalnigeria.com gathered contact have already been made with Rijeka, for his services by Sporting Lisbon although the Portuguese side are yet to firm up their interest beyond the inquiry they made over his availability.

The biggest interest appears to be from Germany where Hamburg have reportedly sent scouts to watch the 20 year old when Istra take on Rijeka this weekend.

Swansea City have scouted the player this season as well. All attempt to get across to his guardian and close confidant Mohammed Suleiman to confirm the strory proved abortive as his both lines were switched off.

EXCLUSIVE: Spain Bound Zakari Tears Up Sfaxien Contract, Esperance Also In For Him

According to reports exclusively gathered by Owngoalnigeria.com, highly rated Nigeria youth international defender Lukman Zakari has terminated his pre contract with Tunisian side Sfaxien.

Zakari refused to return to the club after his campaign with the Nigeria U-20s during their ill fated attempt to qualify for next year Africa Under-20 championship.

He insisted on the club fulfilling clauses in the pre contract he signed early this year, but the Tunisian side are adamant, that they will only listen to him if he returns back to the them.

Due to the differences, he has instructed his agent to terminate his pre contract agreement and press ahead with other options which include Sfaxien bitter rivals Esperance.

Esperance have long been interested in the teen prospect widely regarded as one of the best upcoming defenders in Nigeria and, they could in the coming days press further to sign him.

The defender who won the U-17 World Cup with Nigeria in 2015 is reportedly closing in on a move to a team in Spain, which wasn’t mentioned by our contacts.

In the past, the soon to be 18 year old, who was twice voted man of the match for the Nigeria U-20 was heavily linked with a move to Celta Vigo, although there’s no confirmation if he is heading to the La-Liga side.

Well, since it's a pre-agreement as he's not 18 yet, let him please flee....

And let the agent and Zakari not even reason Esperence... It's the same thing all over Tunisia.

What stops Zakari from going to Italy? Like the Abuja-college boys like Sadiq Umar, Nura Abdullahi and Theophilus Awua... Among others.

Well, Spain isn't bad... But I wonder if such a club is of la liga class. Hope it's not spanish 3rd div.

Nwankwo Fails To Rescue Crotone From Defeat To Atalanta With First Serie A Goal

Crotone’s summer signing Simmy Nwankwo scored his first goal for the side since his arrival from the Portuguese league in their 1-3 loss to Atalanta in a Serie A game.

The Nigerian has played in two Serie A games prior to today’s clash against Atalanta without finding the back of the net in any of the games.

24 year old Nwankwo was introduced in the 68th minute in place of Lorenzo Crisetig with Crotone trailing Atalanta 0-3. He scored what ended as a consolation for his side with four minutes left to play in the game.

Nwankwo joined Crotone from Gil Vicente in the summer two months after agreeing to join Portimonense from fellow second division side Gil Vicente. A u-turn that left followers of the Portuguese league stunned.

In Portugal, he finished as top scorer in the second division with 20 goals for second division side Gil Vicente, where he spent three seasons, from 2013-2016.

Ex-Barcelona Nigerian Defender Elohor Dazzles For Watford In Trial Game

Godswill Elohor Ekpolo has done his chances of penning a deal with English side Watford, a whole lot of good judging by his performance in yesterday’s Premier League 2 game.

Elohor started in Watford U23s 2-4 loss to their Hull City counterparts and, the 20 year old put up a performance that will no doubt put him in a strong position to handed a contract.

The former Barcelona youth team captain was released by the Catalans after 11 years with the team, where he progressed through the different youth ranks of the team.

A right full back who loves to go forward and join the attack. He is also very much at home playing upfield on the flanks where he reportedly started his career before being converted to a right full back.

Elohor missed out on been a part of the Nigeria U-23s that won bronze at the Rio 2016 Olympics, no thanks to his late arrival at the camp of the team and his refusal to pay for his flight ticket to their training camp in Atlanta, USA.

Nigeria On Alert As England Get Set To Call Up Liverpool Teen Ejaria

Nigeria are currently lagging behind England in the race to cap 18 year old Liverpool teen prospect Ovie Ejaria, as reports has it that he is among the players under consideration to be handed call up to the English U21s.

He trained with the Nigeria U-17 of 2013 before their World Cup campaign in the UAE where Nigeria emerged Champions with the likes of Kelechi Iheanacho, Taiwo Awoniyi and Isacc Success.

Ejaria left the Nigerian camp few days after training with the team on the request of his team Arsenal back then before his move to Liverpool.

At Liverpool he has blossomed into a highly rated prospect with manager Jurgen Klopp even handing the 18 year old his first team debut in the English Premier League. To cap a remarkable six months for the teen wonder.

His form for the U23s in the Premier League 2 has also not gone unnoticed by watchers of the youth league in England, as he has been one of the consistent performers for the high flying Liverpool side.

The young lions will take on Kazakhstan on the 6th of next month and, reports has it that Ejaria is seriously been considered by manager Gareth Southgate ahead of the tie.

Nigeria league Player of the Week (37): Obinna Nwobodo

Monday Sep 26, 2016. 15:08

Rangers star midfielder Obinna Nwobodo showed class and guile to inspire his club within 90 minutes of now being crowned Nigeria champions.

Nwobodo fired a wonder strike after 26th minutes, before he assisted in his team’s second goal by Chisom Egbuchulam as Rangers won 2-1 at relegated Ikorodu United on Sunday.

The deceptively slightly built player sighted Ikorodu United goalkeeper off his lines and he chipped the ball over him for a sublime opening goal.

It was a great goal by a highly promising talent who has put behind him a nine-month injury layoff caused by a major knee injury from last year’s U20 AFCON in Senegal to be one of the star performers in an eventful campaign.

Other star performers on Sunday include Nwobodo’s Rangers teammate Chisom Egbuchulam, who also scored in Abeokuta and could have scored a second spectacular goal had Bobby Clement not helped on the effort from an offside position; as well as 3SC defender Samuel Olabisi’s header which beat Wikki and ensured the Ibadan club will stay up again.

Others were David Obiazor (Kano Pillars), Emeka Ogbugh (Heartland) and Isaac Loute (FC IfeanyiUbah).

GODWIN SAVIOUR SCORES AGAIN TO GET
BELGIAN CLUB PAST LEAGUE LEADERS

Nigeria forward Godwin Saviour scored to inspire KSV Roeselare win 2-0 at Belgian second division leaders Lierse and they are now second on the table just a point behind the team they beat.

Saviour scored his third goal of the season for
Roeselare after 24 minutes, before his club
doubled their advantage in the 78th minute.

The Nigeria Olympic international has been the
spark Roeselare needed to get their campaign
back on track after stuttering start to the season.

He has most certainly lived up to his name –
Saviour.

Since a heavy 4-1 loss at Tubize last month,
Roeselare have won their last four straight league matches with Saviour the main catalyst for this amazing run.

On Wednesday, they welcome Lommel United,
who they have defeated away 2-1.

Done Deal : Leicester City Snap Up Promising Nigerian Defender

The highly rated young Nigerian defender Josh Debayo has joined English Premier League champions Leicester City on undisclosed terms following a successful trial.

Aged 19, the left fullback cum central defender was on the books of the youth team of Southampton during the 2015-2016 season.

Debayo, himself, announced that he has completed his transfer to the Foxes on Friday and featured for their U23 squad in their 2-0 loss to West Ham in the Premier League Cup yesterday.

The stopper was offered a new contract by Southampton at the end of last season but decided it was time to move on to greener pastures.

Josh Debayo swapped Chelsea for Southampton in the summer of 2013, then penned a professional contract few months later.

This team is really hurting right now, i won't be moved if he starts playing right from january. German football will do him good, especially if Rohr watches his back.

NIGERIAN TEEN WONDER OSIMHEN TAKES
SQUAD NUMBER AT WOLFSBURG, SCORES
ON DEBUT

$

Victor Osimhen got his career at Wolfsburg off to a flying start with a goal for the German side in their 6-2 win over Regionnaliga side Lupo Martini, in a charity game meant to raise funds for victims of earthquake in Amartice, Italy.

Osimhen struck in the 22nd minute to give fans
of Wolfsburg a glimpse of what to expect when he turns 18 and formally signs a professional
contract.

Speaking after the game, the former U-17 highest goal scorer expressed his happiness over the outcome of the game. However the 17 year old already has his eyes on helping goal shy
Wolfsburg in the Bundesliga.

” Thank you lord, happy to play in the charity
game and also get a goal. Still anticipating for the bigger stage” He posted on his facebook account.

He also appears to have settled for a first team
jersey number which happens not to be his
favourite number 9 shirt instead it is 18, which
was last worn by Brazilian defender Dante.
