Seun:We are not talking about God- someone to worship or consult. We are simply talking about how we began. I am not sure God is a product of religion. God I think is rather a product of the contemplations of the early man. We can be free from religion without discarding the theory of intelligent design. We do not want to throw away the baby with the bath water. I say this not to hold on to Creationism but to say that we seem to be missing the point. What seems to have been disproven so far is the time creation took place, how long it took and how it happened. Why don't we then be the real thinkers that we aspire to be? Why don't we stop seeing intelligent design as religion and see it as one of the yet to be disproved ways we possibly came into existence. So is it a bad idea to "hold on" to intelligent design- not religion- as we also continue to explore the evolution theory? In your opinion, would this make me less of a thinker or scientist? |

felixomor: Lol . You nailed Seun there God can be deduced to exist through personal observation , logic and Science . The first atheists in history opposed the existence of God because they thought the universe has always been . They even ignorantly declared this . Like the Charvaka school of philosophy in India believed that everything that exists is composed of fire , water , air and earth . Those guys after Diagoras of Melos promoted atheism . There were people like Bertrand Russell posited that The universe needs no explanation; it is “just there, and that's all But we see superior evidence in Science confuting such egregiously ignorant statement . that the universe came into being approx 14 billion years ago The atheists through out history from the inception of atheism 2500 years have been arguing for the existence of an eternal universe and all have failed in the face of evidence . And if you take a look at the fine tuning of the universe , it only proves that an intelligent designer exists . Time and time again we see facts , evidence that prove the existence of God . But atheists deny these with no evidence that disproves the existence of God . This spells "delusion" in bold capital letters . 2 Likes |

felixomor:This is irrelevant. As I said, I'm yet to meet anyone who wasn't introduced to idea of God through religion. If you know one, tell us. Deists are like children who discovered that the things their parents told them about Santa were lies, but still believe that there is a "real Santa" out there. 3 Likes 2 Shares |

Seun: I know many bro. "Religion" is a man made word. The word didnt fall from the sky. We saw people worshipping and then named it religion. Its not the other way round. If u see a man worshipping a new deity today, before he says a word, u will call it "religion". Then tomorrow u will turn around to say "religion" (which u just formed) taught him to worship the deity. That doesnt make sense. U r dancing in circles. And why do u say its irrelevant to ask how the first man on earth got it? With the same mouth, you are using to call it "lies"? 4 Likes 3 Shares |

felixomor: Seun is trying to say that when you are born outside religion ,you won't be able to even question the existence of the universe and life itself . Since according to some people the universe needs no explanation I'm surprised you are trying to convince someone who created Nairaland for a purpose that he too was created and for a purpose . When you trace these chains of causes , common sense should tell you that it was never ad infinitum . It had a starting point and this starting point is self existent and non contingent - something that cannot not exist by the necessity of its own nature . You really can't have an intelligent convo with these folks , its otiose . Happy New Year bro God bless you 2 Likes 2 Shares |

Seun:What are evolutionists who discovered that certain things they thought supported evolution are not proof of evolution but still don't consider it reason enough to discard the theory? Remember that I am not interested in proving that there is or there is no God. But can we make sure we are thorough in our investigation both ways. Could ones commitment to a side affect his view of the whole picture? 1 Like |

Its a continuous debate anyway- if you choose to be rational.... If 'God' is real, how did he come to be? We've all been pushed away from that question since we've been toddlers. Do you have a better explanation aside the 'special pleading?' If universe is eternal (you choose to debate it till death), But 'God' is eternal (and you believe it without questioning). How do you even breathe sef (and you boss around with your logic)?

Re: Mark Zuckerberg Is Not An Atheist? by KingEbukasBlog(m): 11:46am On Jan 01, 2017 |
manueltm: The First Cause Argument isn't special pleading 1.Whatever begins to exist must have a cause 2.The Universe began to exist 3. Therefore The Universe has a cause We are making no exceptions for God because God transcends time . Time started with the big bang . So its cause which is God is simply timeless / without beginning . We can say that God is timeless without the universe and in time with the universe . And another reason is that abstract objects have no beginnings and they exist necessarily. But these abstract objects are causally impotent - they do not cause anything . So we are left with a maximally great being - God - who evidently has the ability to cause the universe to exist approx 14 billion years ago . Therefore , the Cosmological Argument for the existence of God is logically sound . 1 Like 1 Share |

Seun: This is a pathetically weak analogy . Why so ? 1. Santa is a legendary Americanized version of St Nicholas , originally Sinterklass - a man known for his miracles , munificence and benevolence. 2. Santa is a bearded guy with a red coat who brings gift to good kids 3. God is argued to be the eternal intelligent creator of the universe since it has a beginning - and this suggests a cause . 4. There is no correlation between a legendary figure who shares gifts on Christmas and a maximally great being who created the universe . 5. Therefore , a child can't wish for a "real Santa" after he discovers that Santa is a legendary version of a historical figure . What on earth made you think this way ? Is atheism culpable for such egregious analogy ? Hmmmm |

Seun:I'm not going to use the word God. No. Deism makes sense. There are lots of us who choose to believe there is a creator even though there is no actual prove, it doesn't mean we are serving the creator or doing unnecessary things for him. |

Seun: You're a pathetic joker. You wanted a man that revered God, without being dogmatic under religious belief. Someone asked about the first man, now you claim its irrelevant. Wow. Talk about contradiction. Now I know atheism is a 'religion' especially your own brand of atheism, trying to force your belief on others that they should believe you, that Mark Zuch is an atheist like you. Big joker you are 2 Likes 1 Share |

I personally respect everyone's opinion and point of view. If I may comment on the matter, there is no logical explanation as how human beings came into being from both a religious and scientific point of view. Scientists believe in the big bang theory, however scientists still don't have an answer as to what may have caused the big bang to occur. Things sometimes happen randomly, but not creation. There has to be a specific reason as to why humans are molded in a particular manner, why there are a plethora of cultures today and why there are an unquantifiable amount of living organisms and species. Where I do agree with science however, is that the first human beings are from Africa and nowhere else. That point can not be refuted. Religion has its drawbacks as well, and there are many unexplained circumstances and answers. I know I will be criticised by Muslims and Christians on here alike, but I do find religion to be a form of control mechanism to keep people naïve and daft about what's truly going on. Suffice to say, I do believe in God, but I don't believe everything I have read in the Qu'ran for instance. With what we know today, with the ample amount of technological advances, I can understand why many people go the agnostic route. I urge all of you to think with an open mind. 3 Likes 1 Share |
