The sultan is a high king over the 19 northern (arewa) he also respect his throne while the Niger Deltan traditional rulers are not respected in their homes cos they have sold their respect for money and politics. They are also 1st class chiefs and not kings or kings of small kingdoms of less than 3-5 communities.
True. I think it borders down on knowing what you are doing.
I think the governors influence their installation so rather than respect them, Its the traditional rulers that are grateful undecided

while this is sad,...

you must understand that the Sultan is a true royal, but the others are, lets say, " we too can be kings" type of kings.

that said, our southern governors need to stop genuflecting to northern royalty like house boys

That's cos they both know that outside their states they've got no power. So they can only treat their indigenous traditional rulers that way

You don't expect people to treat you any better than you treat yourself, the traditional rulers should have never lowered themselves down to their subjects.

Who pays the salary of the sultan or emir?
azimibraun:
Pictures don't lie.. I agree with with you. But my question are; Are those traditional rulers in the class of the sultan? The sultan of sokoto is most senior traditional ruler in the north and the leader of muslims in almost all of west Africa and specifically the gulf of guinea. He is just not just a national leader but an international leader. Wike pays the salary of that traditional ruler by law he can fire him if laws are broken and from the foto wike also bowed to the king from his posture. My second question is this, why have you not bothered to get fotos of a northern leader visiting a south east or south-south traditional ruler to juxtapose it with leaders from the south visiting traditional rulers in th north? Did the northern leaders stood and greeted or they bowed? Yeye post for all I care. BIGOTORY!

This is not hypocrisy, it is far from that.

Akpabio feeds the Edidem, that's why.

BTW how can you compare the Sultan with Edidem?

you all are taking this the wrong way, this is not a thing of debate it is clear. it dates back to the fore fathers. The mode of greeting in all the etnic regions are different... example how do the igbo chiefs or councle men great the king? simple with their fans or horse wipe crossing it against each other...the hausa's simply bows slightly raising their clenched fist a bit higher or mear handshake as in the way muslims generally do it ...the yorubas "dobale" ie bowing right to the ground......so u shld expect the visiting party "no matter who he/she is to replicate that same king/mode of greeting when he/she visit the head/chief/king of that particular place........its not act of slavery or arse licking its just plane RESPECT.....

It's based on tradition. In the east, I don't know much about Niger delta, u don't bow for anybody. Kneeling is not part of the greetings in eastern part and I believe it's applicable in niger delta

we do kneel down,in ijaw if you visit the kings palace esp if u want his blessing ,u ve to kneel down, wike does that whenever he needs the support of the first class kings in rivers state like the Amayanabo of Kalabari, Amayanabo of Opobo, Amayanabo of Bonny

Ilorin had a coup and Yorubas chased away the coupists but failed to fathom that the land would ever become what we now call Nigeria.

In the cases here in picture. There is no coup, no attack, no invasion, no aggression....but these Biafrans willingly submitted to the power and supremacy of Sulta, the serikin musulumi.

I think there is an otumokpo in that prayer bead because he loves to offer it and Biafrans willingly accept the Sharia code infused into the otumokpo.

Islamization of Biafra is the beginning of your freedom.

Dumb post. Are you expecting the way he will even greet the vice president to be the same as when he greets a local govt chairman. On the national table do you think the two royal fathers are on the same rank. You think Obaseki will greet the Oba the way he will greet his community royal father. Akpabio/Wike can wake up and sack those royal fathers you see there but Tambuwal as Governor cannot remove the Sultan. Take note of that.

This is not completely strange anyway. PMB ignored hand sake with female ministers on the day of their inauguration but happily jump to sake hand with the queen of England.
Our leaders also requires some training?

stupid tribal-ist! how are Wike and Akpabio biafrans. when matter reach oil, Niger delta ceases to be biafran.

Yoruba and Igbo tribal-ists are second to corruption as Nigeria's biggest problem.

back to Topic, some traditional rulers respect themselves and are thus respected in return.

There's nothing surprising here, some are just too young and naive to understand that this has always been the nature of Nigerian politics.

From what I see however, it's the southern traditional rulers that have been selling themselves cheap.

By heritage; none of them is in the same class with the Sultan - the sultanate had long preceded their minor or relatively recent fabricated stools - just saying, no offence intended.
