Asaba was part of defunct western region and later, mid-western region. You can have western region less mid-western region back.

Or better still, Asaba was a part of pre 1906 Southern Nigeria which SW wasn't part of.

Or you can fall back to the old tested and trusted dogma of "Ibos voted for those people out of selfish interests".

You know, this is actually one of the worst times to be an Igbo man as far as being part of the Nigerian entity is concerned. We know that since the end of the civil war the hate for the Igbo man has been engraved in the minds of the average Nigerian, from the west to the North and even to the South-south. Though the Igbos did a pretty good job despite the adversities by pulling themselves out of the rubble and from 1999, we started to enjoy some level of prosperity politically, even though i feel it wasn't enough considering the fact that we're part of the tripod upon which this nation was built. Atleast it was a good start.

However, a little more than a decade later, the Igbo nation is looking more like a conquered territory. Some people blame it on wrong political calculations and alliances while others blame it on the hate that the Nigerian state has had against people of Igbo extraction. I would blame it on the unwillingness of Igbos to play politics the Nigerian way.

It has come a time that we need to forego the emotions of the civil war and solidarity with any group and play politics the way the Northerners play or atleast, go the route of the Yorubas. These people have mastered the idiosyncrasies that is Nigeria and have seized the moment to put themselves at a stage that will benefit them. It seems the Igbos are the only majority group that have failed and looking like a minority group by the day. Instead of deceiving ourselves by concocting spiritual alliances with a region known as the south-south or Niger Delta or whatever they want to call themselves these days, our alliances should face westwards and to the north. The people from the south-south are the most ungrateful humans ever to walk this part of the world. How can one explain that a group as big as the Igbo race put all their eggs in one basket for a man known as Goodluck Jonathan who wasn't even an Igbo man and as soon as he lost, his people started throwing abuses at us.

The first mistake you don't make in politics is to bring yourself down to align with minorities except it's for your own interest. It's high time we stopped being emotional and moved with the tide and align with satan if need be because contrary to what a lot of Igbos may think, we're no saints and nobody is looking for a saint in Nigeria. As long as you're crooked but appear friendly, people will respect you.

Playing politics in a slave cage = endorsement of slavery

Igbo's are not ment to be slaves and must not participate in such act of stupidity

A chairman/oga/Lord in a prison still remains a prisoner

There is no dignity in being in a prison/cage

Cage is ment for captured animals

Igbo's are not animals

Igbo's know what to do to help themselves

Yoruba's don't hate us lol..if they dont hate us why cant they accept that there are indigenous Igbo communities in the south south..I forgot it was even a yoruba man called obasanjo that divided our communities and took away our lands to give other ethnic groups to form states lol...I for one can not hate Yoruba's thus!!! I repeat thus!! Because of wole Soyinka and victor banjo plus all Yoruba soldiers who fought for Biafra.. Thank you.

I don't even get the gist here. Obviously some history you were told and in your own way misunderstood.

Afam, this your thread is ill thought and totally unnecessary, I for one don't know what you wanted to achieve with it.
Create a fertile ground for Igbo bashing from chronic Igbophobic beings or pity party seeking for poor hapless Igbo people from Nigerians? Afam, nawa for you o!
Ike gwuru.
Igbos voted for Obj, a Yoruba man in 1999,2003.
Many Igbo people were prominent in Obj government and were loyal to him, yet Ndiigbo couldn't even get VP post from PDP and OBJ in 2007, even Igbos in denial of their Igbo identities like Odilli were schemed out of the VP post because he was considered not non Igbo enough.

Igbos still voted for Yaradua and we had prominent Igbos in his government. Yet this is not bridge building, right?

We still voted for GEJ, yet another non Igbo in 2011 and 2015, and because of this Arewa-Oduanistans have been convulsing, telling all who cared to listen how Ibis are naive politically, but they had no problem when we were voting for OBJ and Yaradua.

Afam, you are simply a victim of Yoruba propaganda, I can't believe you are this gullible.
No Nigerian group since the return of democracy had built more bridges than Ndiigbo, we had voted massively for a Yoruba candidate( 1999,2003), Northern candidate(2007), South South candidate ( 2011,2015), we owe no Nigerian group nada as it stands, they are the ones who are yet to return favours we extended to them, we have built enough bridges.

The Igbo issue is not about bridge building, as we had already established from political historical antecedents of Nigerian nascent democracy, it's much deeper than that and it sure had nothing to do with the support we gave to a minority called GEJ, as we had earlier given same support to OBJ and Yaradua and the result wasn't different.

look at what iam saying Yoruba's trying to divide us from our south eastern kins...This same people that said ezeogwu Kaduna who is from asaba is Igbo are now saying asaba is south south and not Igbo...This same people that called the aniomas Igbo's because they did a coup are now saying anioma land is south south and not igbo..There hypocrisy is legendary... this is the main reason they took Igbo communities and lands to add in the south south to make it impossible for Igbo's to unite but there plans will never work..

Now back to you..

Iam etche from etche LGA in rivers and i am Igbo....is asaba a Yoruba town!!! Are aniomas Yoruba, Are ndokis Yoruba's,Are etche Yoruba's,Are ASA people Yoruba's...South south is a political region and its a pity someone of your age can't tell the difference between south south/ethnic group..The igbos In the phantom south south have said they want to join Biafra so what are you talking about...

So you trying to limit Igbo land to south east only forgetting there are Igbo's in the south south...no southeast state have insulted themselves and have never fought themselves compare it to the Yoruba's who always rain curses on ekiti state.. Compare it to modakekes and ife people who almost fought eachother to extinction..Compare it to the way Yoruba's and eguns do fight in Lagos state..last time didn't Yoruba's burn the houses of some eguns in the badagry area of Lagos in which some people even died... You Yoruba's are always ready to find faults in others but forgetting your own faults are there and even growing..

Again we Igbo's in the south south will!!i repeat it!!! Will support out south eastern kins no matter what...Don't try to divide us because it won't work.

What's the Yoruba people got to do with your SS/IBO headache? What are you talking about?

The bottomline is until the South can forge an alliance, Northern hegemony is what we have to adjust to. The SS generally distrust and dislike Igbos. As for the SW, for me, the dislike and suspicion is stronger on the Igbo side. Yorubas are for the most part indifferent and aren't nearly as bitter as Igbos are. But the tragedy is the division in the South is what has strengthened the North. A united South could have even further consolidated their power by reaching out to form alliances with the Middle Belt, who distrust the core North.
Well said, im up 4 a united south but the Yorubas are two faced ready to accept crumbs instead of uniting for a stronger southern Nigeria, d igbos arent as bitter as ipob are painting dem, its ipob dat feeds of tribalism to mk it seem dey are marginalized

Eboes must learn to take responsibility for their actions. In the Eastern region the Eboes sought to dominate everyone and pretended to the rest of Nigeria that Eastern Nigeria was an Eboes zone which unfortunately the North supported Zik because it allowed them suppress Northern minorities. Naturally the Eastern minorities resented this and took revenge when they could, no one taught them.
Instead of being conciliatory Eboes continue their aggressive bullying arrogant approach. The reality is the Eboes are a minority tribe in Nigeria and used the other Eastern minorities to project themselves as bigger than they really are
You just said nothing with all these your rants.

If all this gibberish is to make igbos accept APC, you just wasted space here. Okoroawusa is the most hated politician in igboland today, not only because of his association with a fulani supremacist organisation like the APC, but also because of his all-round failure in governance as he sees Imo state as another avenue to continue his 419 business he began in Jos.

This is the kind of hate you people spew all over the place, even against your own fellow ibo simply because he's part of a different political party.

If APC is Hausa party, then what is the PDP the SE sold out to and gave 99% of their votes? Do they not have hausa people and even hausa president that you voted for instead of your own home grown AGPA?

Did you not even voted for the PDP/hausa man instead of AGPA/Ojukwu, your own Hero?

Was Ekwueme not VP to hausa man? So we should just go ahead and call Ekwueme, Ekwuemehusa right?

Again, handle the ibo on ibo hate first before demanding same from other people who don't even hate you.

I think when an individual and a group claims everyone hates them, maybe it's time to look in the mirror. It's not normal for everyone to hate you except you practice hate at a level higher than the other's.

Let's talk on the so called lack of distrust. I think that it is evident here why there is distrust. You all go online and insult other's, their culture and their people. Then you say Igbo's have this great ability to dominate. Now even the Igbo's will reject domination by anyone. So the message you pass across online believe it or not, translates to what happens on ground. No group of people will be warm and friendly to people who lack respect, are bashful and boastful. In majority of the Nigerian cultures, those attributes are looked on with utmost disdain and contempt.

Every few years, a group of Igbo's will come together and further destroy the image of the tribe. Previously it was those army boys that ushered in the civil war, today it's the IPOB. They go about their struggle the wrong way. They insult, annoy and antagonize everybody to the extent that their mission is forgotten and no one even knows why the struggle happened. It's like Igbo's allow the most daft and aimless group of people to always do their political jobs. These people end up doing the worst jobs on struggles and it paints Igbo people in the worst way. There are so many educated and sophisticated Igbo's. But they always keep quiet when the illiterates and the stupid start misbehaving. This is why the mostly stupid dominate politics in SE. It seems they value brawn over brains to deal with outsiders. When infact your best brains should be working in politics. You only bring out your brawns when it's war time!

Afam, hope you learnt from this rational submission.

That was a very succinct post from Mr pchukwudi. I am really glad for the current reawakening sweeping through our land.

Five decades ago, the Eaatern region was the fastest growing economy in the world. Today, we are far behind our then peers who have since evolved to become the fabled Asian Tigers because we had become ensnared into the unfolding tragedy that is Nigeria.

Rather than having our best minds working to build our land, we have them toiling at a failed project called One Nigeria. It's time to direct our focus away from this shithole to the larger global market (as all other successful economies have done) and stop all this needless clamouring for participation in a failed project.

Excellent post:

The Igboman is the proverbial sacrificial lamb to the average Nigerian. I'll describe his situation according to the following scenario:
He sat down, they complained, he stood up they remind him of his place on the floor, he walked away, they tagged him a coward and a traitor.
Northern Nigeria is one volatile region, especially during election, but how many of them have stood up to condemn and call for proper political tolerance. The case is different when it comes to the Igbos. Whatever he does, is faulty to them. 2015 brought to limelight, the bad blood that was already boiling underground.

An individual on this forum, once claimed Igbos are synonymous to failure. Whatever they are involve will certainly fail, hence the failure of GEJ’s administration. You can imagine the height of racism. First of all, were the Igbos the only ethnic group in GEJ’s cabinet and workforce? Na, but this goes to show you how the average Nigerian perceives the Igbos.

The simple solution is forming a formidable political base, a kind of home grown political party that is in tune with odinani, spanning across Igboland, both S’S and S’East, thus will allow us to build an economic regional block. Whoever emerges the president, or whatever composes his cabinet should not be our headache; as long as we are able to develop our region, according to our cultural values and belief system, with time we will become a force to be reckon with. A call to alliance is just plain stupid and repetition of same old mistake. This is my position any day, any time.

IPOB was peaceful and mostly filled with greedy and desperate figures, till Nnamdi started a violent agitation. With the way he is going, it will soon be 66 all over again. Using violence will only cause your enemies to have a reason to unite against you. That's a fact. You have to understand that as one of the major groups, you have to act like a major group! The emergence of Nigeria was mostly due to Yoruba, Hausa and Igbo. We are all in this together. Nigeria is not going anywhere anytime soon! At the most we revert to regional government

Minority groups are looking for relevance and if you keep doing politics of gra gra, the minority groups will disrespect you and take advantage of any opportunity to relegate you and elevate themselves. Igbo's should act like a majority. Their future is in their hands, only if they start to take themselves seriously! When I say take themselves seriously, I mean play politics of fruitful and mature alliances. Play politics that does not involve making enemies or politics of isolation and lack of ideals.

What bridge building from 1999 to 2015? Till today, have you heard a message from Igbo politicians that hold a uniform ideal? No. Look at the Yoruba and Hausa. At the core, they have an ideal which they could all revert back to. But in Igboland, I am not even sure how the politicians contest and win. No strong figure has ever been allowed to speak in public and present a strong ideal. Yet it's shady and highly suspicious figures. Then you have clowns like Nnamdi Kanu who say they are Jewish and further bring reproach on the tribe. How can you rule Nigeria when you don't know who you are, where you come from or what you stand for? Bridge building does not mean you live all over Nigeria. Bridge building means you create a strong cultural identity that brings pride and has some values, you build up your home and then go outside and build bridges. No one will take anyone seriously if they have nothing solid to offer. Igbo's need to work on their own PR, rather than thinking a good PR strategy is to talk bad about other's to rise.

Mynd44, Afam4eva

Wonderful write ups from you guys.
Mynd44 is a very intelligent person.

But some issues I will like to raise are

1) Igbos don't practice Central leadership, it's not about the political class, Igbos from origin are guided or lead by Elders or council of respected people, not a single person. Go through history. In Southwest some Obas are very influential, persons like Oba of ile-ife are highly respected and Reverend across board. That can't be be said for the East.

We have the Obi of Onitsha, he doesn't have much influence any other states, even in Anambra.
Émirs in the North are highly respected and popular..

Igbos don't just have that Culture, it's not about egalitarianism.

2) Biafra successionist, Nnamdi Kanu and his IPOB group have influenced and "radicalise" millions of Igbo Youths, most are now only a singing the anthem of succession/referendum. The are no longer interested in the Nigerian Project. This will strategically marginalize them in the upcoming Political Elections, because the will be busy agitating for Biafra while other Zones will be Busy strategizing on how to win Elections.
At the end of day, no Biafra, no Igbo Federal government leadership.

If you check the results of the last election, you'll see Voter apathy in the Eastern States.
There were very low turn ups in Abia, Ebonyi, Anambra. Only Enugu and Imo came out to vote.

The Igbos relaxed and probably thought GEJ will easily win as usual with incumbent Elections or probably thought their Biafra dreams will soon become realistic...

Finally, this is not victim mentality or persecution complex... But the fact is that Igbos have been shortchanged more than any Ethnic group, especially in this Buhari's Administration, denying this fact will only be hypocrisy.
Buhari doesn't like Igbo people.

I'm not being sentimental, or wailing, I believe you should know me, I'm objective and logical, I don't speak out of sentiments or emotions.
That's why I also have squabbles with many Igbos here on Nairaland, I create threads against their idealogy sometimes.

Solution, Igbos has to decide exactly what the want.
We should stop deceiving ourselves.. Is it Biafra or Igbo leadership of Nigeria.
The earlier we answer this question, we will be able to structure ourselves properly.
My only fear is the level of influence this Biafra/Nnamdi Kanu ideologies has on Igbo people
...

OBJ and all the people you listed are members of the same PDP which ibo people massively vote for regardless who is at the top.

You even gave all your votes to the PDP full of the same hausa people instead of your own home grown hero, ojukwu.

And you voted for OBJ based on his political party and not because he was a Yoruba man, the same reason Yoruba people did not vote for him based on his political party

If you are going to use that excuse, start by voting for a different poitical party apart from the same PDP you and your people are still tied to.

Vote for a Yoruba man from a different party, then we'll take you seriously.

Leave Ndigbo out of your Nigerian politics of poverty, disease, failure, corruption, robbery, illiteracy, underdevelopment, criminality, incompetence.

Yes we don't know how to play Nigerian politics

OBJ and all the people you listed are members of the same PDP which ibo people massively vote for regardless who is at the top.

You even gave all your votes to the PDP full of the same hausa people instead of your own home grown hero, ojukwu.

And you voted for OBJ based on his political party and not because he was a Yoruba man, the same reason Yoruba people did not vote for him based on his political party

If you are going to use that excuse, start by voting for a different poitical party apart from the same PDP you and your people are still tied to.

Vote for a Yoruba man from a different party, then we'll take you seriously.

So the talk is nolonger about not building bridges with other Nigerian groups, it's now about building bridges with political parties other than PDP. Nice twist and shifting of goal posts grin
Let's see Nigerians in APC reward Okorocha and Ogbonnaya onu for the bridges they had built so far in APC, then we might reconsider APC.

Here is mallam Okorocha lamenting about marginalization of Ndiigbo. If after making himself the pariah of the commoners in Igboland by his continued association with APC, Okorocha and his state have nothing to show for this his support for APC so far, who bewitched delusional naive Igbos amongst us to believe that the rest of us joining Okorocha and co in supporting APC would change the situation?
https://www.google.com.ng/amp/www.vanguardngr.com/2017/02/despite-efforts-nothing-show-seast-part-nigeria-okorocha/amp/

One would think that Okorocha and his appointees in Imo state would benefit from this APC government immensely, in terms of appointments and infrastructures, but that hasn't happened, which prompted Okorocha to join the rest of us to wail.

The disasterous British experiment called Nigeria has outlived its usefullness. It is time for my great Igbo nation to invoke our God given right to self determination and get out of the sinking ship called Nigeria

Eritrea did it to Ethiopia
America did it to Britain
Pakistan did it to India
East Timor did it to Indonasia
Crimea did it to Ukrain

The unstoppable train of freedom will carry my great Igbo nation out of Nigeria straight into Biafra

Ekinematics:

This one keep shouting I'm from Etche upandan.
These are quotes from his previous posts;

1. "but please show them that the ikweres are not the only Igbo clan in rivers like we hate etche and ndokis..please"

2. "blues please open another thread to show that portharcourt is Igbo land".
Blues is an active ipob youth on nairaland from the S.East.

In the 1st quote just take a look at the WE HATE grin

In the second; which Rivers man will be begging an Ibo man from the east to open a thread to show that PH is Iboland? Between you and the south easterner who should tell the history of PH better? grin

The above just proved you are a lying land grabbing ipob youth from the barren landlocked SE claiming Rivers.
Be proud of what you are.

don't be du****mb I made a mistake in the ikweres are not the only igbo tribe/clan In rivers...I did not even see what I wrote I wanted to write have but it seems my phone auto correct made the mistake and put hate..If you had sense you will see that it was a mistake by the phone auto correct some of us do have andriod phones and not nokia java

2)I asked blues to make a thread because blues is a known Igbo historian on nairaland with the likes of igboid, big Francis and pazeiina...If you have been on nairaland long enough you will know this...

like ikechuOb/ikechuj said if you support your south east kins they will always find a way to call you an imposter now bye....Proudly etche proudly igbo

Your point is sound.
But what is necessary to understood is that PDP has failed to take up the force of opposition and also, there are events you need to consider before you understand the current happenings in Nigeria politics with regards to Igbo common man because there is difference between Igbo common man and Igbo politicians.
When Buhari lost 2011 election, his supporters went on rampage killing people they deemed responsible but GEJ wasted no time but instead brought the northern people into the fold including those that gave him less than 5percent votes. That's what Nigeria presidency demands.
But after GEJ lost 2015 election, the SW APC led touts began the mind game of telling Igbos that they put their eggs in one basket in a quite a manner of conqueror and vanquished thing. APC was supposed to provide National leadership but it turned out to be politics of those that won and those that lost which led to Buhari's appointments and his 5%/97% thing and arrest of Kanu and killing of Biafrans. You don't push anyone and tell the person where to fall.
Politics should not be about winning election but mostly about provision of leadership.
But I must say the Igbo politicians are building bridges. But we the masses don't care about building any bridges. In 2019, we will crush APC in East and bury it.

Mynd44 I'm longing to read your reply to this.

I have always said you have a one track mind and cannot reason. You talk about hate for t the Eboes. If you are young then let me inform you. How long is 9 years in politics? That's exactly the length of time from1970 to 1979..The Nigeria Civil war ended in 1970 and in 1979 an Eboe man was VP and another was Speaker of the House of Representatives. Is that how a country treats people that it hates? In this same government what position did Yoruba Edo Ijaw Tiv hold? Are they not Nigerian's. You folk are very selfish and hateful that is why you project the hate in your minds on others until they get fed up and irritated. In Nigeria the Eboes have had a very good deal after the war.The main problem the Eboe man has is he thinks he is better than everyone and blames everyone but himself for his f
ailure always playing victim. Was it hatred when Anyim Soludo Iweala Akunyuli Ezekwesili were key players in OBASANJO'S government?
I
Between 1970 and 1979 Eboes produced two military governors of Lagos both appointed by Obasanjo yet you are hated. We're there no I jaws, Edos Efik, Idoma and others ?

When in 1993 a Yoruba man won election and it was annulled no one talked on HATRED? I wonder how the Eboes would respond to that. Stop the victim hood. You are not the only ones in Nigeria
Do not try to rewrite history, The Eboes have ALWAYS GONE INTO POLITICAL ALLIANCE WITH THE NORTH. 1960 1965 1979 and 1983 elections. You have ALWAYS DONE THIS. Nothing new. You did this as junior partners in alliance against the SW who NEVER called you betrayers. You lose out for once and cannot handle opposition. THE EBOES HAVE ONE ENEMY IN NIGERIA. Look in the mirror

I got your message, but are you intentionally spelling this "Eboes"?
