Veron265: My dear Veron265, she is not fully aware of the pros and cons, trust us Nigerians on that, someone who has not visited or lived in Nigeria for a while will surely have a romanticized view of the city. Lagos can be exciting if you are visiting for a shore time and have a host to show you around, however it is a fast city very much like Johannesburg and if you end up in the wrong area, not very good for you. Visit first and if you "feel" the city like Africanbabe you can make an informed decision. I usually suggest when SA's come to lagos my recommendations if they don't have a host is "four points" hotel on the island, very nice place and location to experience lagos. It is close to everything on the island and the night life around the area is great for tourists. Its also a safer area to hang out until the late hours of the night. Ps, I know they usually give SA's a 3 month visa reciprocal to SA visas so I don't know how your friend is planning to stay longer than her visa expiration date. Lagos is not Johannesburg were one can blend into Yeoville or hillbrow or sunnyside in pretoria. You will stick out like a sore thumb 2 Likes |

morpheus24: I've screenshot your input and will pass it on to her. You raise very good points. Thank you very much. P.s. You seem to know a lot about the Visa proc etc. We're still sorting that out. Folks are claiming we need an 'agent' in order to secure one etc. @ Afrikanbabe How dis you go about it the first time. Was it as tedious as they are making it out to be? |
Re: South African Wants To Live And Work In Lagos, Nigeria by Veron265(f): 8:50pm On Jun 08, 2017 |
afrikanbabe: Bless..... Well, I'm largely coming in on a spiritual quest.....a demain to fulfil a 10 year dream. Experience the Lagos vibe, cuisine etc. I'm excited about it, it's been long overdue. My friend is banking on her aquaintances hooking her up etc. So no Job yet. What has been your experience with the visa process etc. ################### Ré Lagos.... Any recommendations Not to miss attractions. General advice Its a 2 wk trip |
Re: South African Wants To Live And Work In Lagos, Nigeria by afrikanbabe(f): 9:07pm On Jun 08, 2017 |
Veron265: With my visa, I got it through an agent as I didn't have all the required items. I wish you and your friend a fulfilling experience. Stay on the island as a first time visitor as mentioned by Morpheus. Many attractions and things to do - check TripAdvisor and good 'ol google doodle. If you have friends then have them show you the rounds. You have to visit the market. Check out some art. Have some local foods, suya, grilled fresh fish with some yam chips and pepper sauce mmmmh, boli and groundnut. Got to do a Lagos party of course. See tarkwa bay beach. Elegushi as well. There's other beaches too of which you can get other recommendations. Go to Lekki conservation center. Shrine for the best live music (in Africa need I add). I could go on dear. Be alert. If you act like johnny just come (newcomer) some may take advantage and overcharge. Explore with local folks if you can. This just top of my head oo Spiritual quest? Could you elaborate? 2 Likes |

you've made me LOL with the phrase 'Johnny just come' ....one thing I've learnt is theres always a local vs foreigner price abi....we go try our best to blend in. For starters, I'm not spending unnecessary cash on an agent, the tourist visa specs seem straightforward. I've also screenshot your list....it's well rounded. Jare.....allow me to testify upon my return. Yes? When are you planning your relocation? Is it Job first then off you go? 1 Like |

Re: South African Wants To Live And Work In Lagos, Nigeria by morpheus24: 7:40pm On Jun 09, 2017 |
Veron265:The visa process is straightforward, you can go to embassy, usually they require someone inviting you before you leave and will sometimes call that person to verify. An agent is fine because the guys at the embassy know them already so they buypass some additional checks. 3 Likes |

Veron265: lol, I hope you are not coming to SCOAN to see Pastor TB Joshua o, lol I don't know about your friends acquintance, **cough**, unless its heading towards marriage then fine, if not as far as long term, I would be skeptical. As far as where to go well African babe has mentioned some good places. I will just add some others for night moves Club Spice lounge CLub Sip on Fridays D'place in Lekki phase one. Good food, stay away from the Asun unless you can handle pepper E Bar, good place to relax on friday nights but also good on sundays. Very chilled. Try their isi ewu there, very good Sailors or bay lounge also in lekki, they have live entertainment There is a market, I can't remember what roundabout in lekki it is, they sell beautiful artifacts for cheap, Ask around and they will tell you where it is. Hope you have fun and have great testimonies to take back to your people. PS. Speak up in Naija, we are very animated people but learn to draw the line between arrogance and confidence when you interact with the lay man in lagos 3 Likes 1 Share |

I'm quite an upfront person, so I'll be honest....yes.... My spiritual quest involves SCOAN....I had opted to keep it to myself since 'we' all have our opinions about TB Joshua. They say "send a thief to catch a thief".....I'll leave it at that for now. You lot are nosey abeg....either way, I'll come and testify upon my return. ( Afrikanbabe and Morpheus24) ##### I'm coming for a well rounded experience, I'll have my moral campus.... No regrets, money well spent. I'm driven by my tastebuds.....so, totally looking forward to all the chow I go chop, Music is great, especially when live Art and artefacts And the basic Lagos Vibe |

Veron265: There is no problem if you are coming to Scoan, most Saffers I meet at the airport usually tell me they are coming from SCOAN so no biggy, Travelling from the island to SCOAN is a bit far in Lagos traffice terms but I am guessing you have made plans concerning that and if you havent you should. You will enjoy the cuisine no doubt but carry a bottle of peptobismal cause the spices are strong and not everyone can take them. I have had many a SA food and trust me you may need it. Music and nightlife you will definitely enjoy. 1 Like |

morpheus24: I had to Google what 'pepto bismal' is.....will come prepped, thanks for the heads up. I like to believe my stomach is made of steel....although the pepe dey too much at times... I honestly haven't looked into the logistics of getting to Scoan...will have to venture in independently of them, been told there's a long list etc. 2 weeks leaves ample time to get what I need. Will check my Google maps and see the specifics etc.... P.s. I merely reside in SA, I am Malawian. My friend is thus the southy not me. |

Veron265: Nice one, it's nice to be on the welcoming side for once Nigerians seem to value anything foreign more than our own, so you'll be fine. If you have a Nigerian friend or someone who will help you settle down that will be very good, with your accent you will stand out which might not always be to your advantage if you go to the mainland unless you have a Nigerian translating for you. I wish you a good stay 1 Like |

Veron265: It's good visiting and knowing your other neighbors, unlike staying lazy in your province without knowing how other Africa nation looks like. Lagos is a nice city, beautiful and loving people. Enough recreational center to watch out for. Have you ever taken Egbusi Soup? Reminds me of a time ago I first took my Xhosa female friend to an African kitchen in Capetown, she took two plates of egbusi. Try it when you come Enjoy your stay hun! 2 Likes |

Veron265: Ahh My*** marrawian***. forgive the jokes. I know a lot of Malawians find it hard to pronounce their L's and R's. Once you get to Naija or before, you can contact the church they will give you logistics on how to get there. If you are going to be trying out a lot of dishes, you will need that Peptobismal or gaviscon, trust me |

All49ja: I hear you about exploring, I have enough stamps on y passport but haven't ventured into West African territory yet. Nigeria will be my first (tempted to visit Ghana whilst I'm at it, no visa but cash and time limitations). I love, love Egusi soup.....it's 10/10, I could eat it everyday....with lots of ponmo in it. Looking forward to trying it on home turf, since the fine skimp on palm oil and bitter leaf, they use spinach imagine lol ha ha... I want to try the famous Suya etc. I have a to-eat list....yes, I'm a proud foodie Thanks for the best wishes. |
