Whom to call when anything happen. There are many parts of the machine that need different professional or right people to attends to it without taking all join mechanics into consideration or miss them up because some will not tell you there area of specialisation. You must be able to identified what has fault and who should be the right person to correct/repaire the fault.

I would like to partner with a company that is into Equipment leasing/Renting business with a million naira. The company must has been existing as a Equipment leasing/Renting company, not about to be formed as one. The company must be ready to absorb me as an active member not a passive one because i am about to quite my job and go into Transport and Haulage or Equipment leasing/Renting business full time. Interested companies should contact me.

Omolayo,
Am in the process of purchasing 320 L excavator , due to the high cost of shipping the seller advised me that they can take the machine apart and load it in a 40ft HQ container before shipping to Lagos.
My question is that, are there reliable mechanics there that can put this machine together once it get's to Lagos and how much will it cost me to do this.

there many reliable once around who can do this but my fear is,can they make sure that every single parts removed will come with the machine completely? Also can they get extra bolt and nuts on the machine incase of replacement or worn-out.  most of big new equipment are been brought into country in parts but with careful packed in boxes those things that are very small or sensitives such as bolt and nuts, holes pump and so on.  Alternatively, may be u contact some others shipping companies or agents for price comparative because this type of machines come in with roro shipping company everyday. or you ask other what they normally do to avoid high charges.
On how much it will cost, that will depend on how they dismantle the machine from abroad.  At worst #250k

price and phisical look is not enough to buy machine but the confirmation that is in good condition. some imported equipment problem/fault can be hectic and very stressful. trust me, u may not be happy for buying a faulty equipment abroad in the name of getting it fixed when it get here(Nigeria). Lets all ur rated percentage be minimum of 60% at all time.

Hello Mr. Omolayo. First I would love to commend you highly on exploring a MAJOR area of need/opportunity back home (Construction). The nation is in NEED of dependable construction professionals with credibility and integrity.

My background: I have degrees in Finance and Residential Construction with a Masters degree in E-Business, all from Universities in the East Coast of the US. We are all aware that the big players like Julius Berger have always monopolized larger aspects of the Construction industry/market, mainly Civil, Commercial and Industrial, however I have been noticing that there is a soaring need for smaller players to fill an ever-increasing demand for quality residential construction. After all, people need a quality place to live in. I have worked with Residential Builders here in the States, building and managing construction of medium sized homes in sub-divisions, and was a Technical/Construction Engineer in the US Army (21T). I not only have a degree in Construction Management, knowledgeable in the areas of Construction Accounting, Construction Drafting, Construction Scheduling, and Construction Contracting, I also have hands-on experience and have personally engaged in Construction work, operating Bobcats, Mini-Excavators, etc

My Questions: (1) From what I've seen in your postings, the construction equipment you focus on is HEAVY construction equipment targeted towards Civil construction work (for roads, bridges, highways etc) and other Land-prep/Pre-Construction/Land Development jobs. Is there a need/demand also, for Smaller/Light Construction equipment such as Mini-loaders (Bobcats) and Mini Excavators? These would serve well in a Residential Construction capacity especially because of access in and out of compounds etc
(2) How about Maintenance? How would one maintain all this equipment? Who are the reliable technicians/mechanics that are knowledgable and experienced enough to maintain all of this equipment?

I plan on getting into the Residential Construction business in Naija soon, and it would be good to form some type of symbiotic relationship.

Please get back to me.

Trust me,you will be an hot cake in the industry if and only you believe in future of these equipments you mentioned above with your knowledge according to your background educationally combined with the little practical experience as it may be sound considering the Nigeria market. it is not how far you started but how well you can accomodate yourself with ups and downs of Nigeria factors that is quit different from your country of learning, that i will tell you more later.
Maintenance has being the major issue as the experience concern but never mind nothing is in possible here but patience is the key, that if you dont want to know it all overnight as Nigeria is concern. We call it rush in and rush out! but proper preperation prevent poor performance. On a reliable mechanics, experienced manager we always get you one with a price higher than common ones.

his maybe late, but the issue with the Cat 980, it is not because the purchasing cost is less, or affordable, the problem is the cost of operation, when you get any such job, you need to take into account the expense of keeping it running for all types of jibs, and in many cases, it is more cost effective and productive and more beneficial to the operator to have a machine that does not consume too much diesel to keep the cost down, and offer customer better deals to ge a job, that's the way you look at it!!

you are right man,you have to consider the site/area where you are putting it for work. As far as lagos is concerned 980 payloader has a very limited area of work/clients because of the size, also the size doesnt have any much positive effect on the price of hiring it.

@Omolayo, Good day Omolayo, Thanks so much for education us so much on this business. I have read all 6 pages so far and I am really enjoying it. I am really impressed by your detailed knowledge of this business. You seem like someone I want to work with. I am a construction engineer or builder.

I moved back to Abuja after living in Canada for about 15 years. I am really interested in this business and I am a serious investor. I have been going around asking people who are in the business here in Abuja for advice on what kind of machines to buy, how to maintain them and how to go about running the business and so on.

Alot of the things you have said on the topic have been verified as correct from the various people I have asked in the business.

My question is, Since you are based in Lagos and I am based in Abuja, can we still work together?
Do you have partners that can work with me here in Abuja?

I am talking to several dealers in the U.S now that I want to buy the machines from, If i send you the pictures and history of the machines, Can you advice me?

I can probably afford to buy 2 to start with a budget on $30k per machine, which ones should I go for first? dozer, excavators motor grader, payloader or compactor? I know u recommended some particular specs of machine for the north but which machine is in highest demand.?

Also should I buy 2 machines or 1 machine and a lowbed transport instead?

Should I start with just 1 first giving that I am new to the business?

I already have a borehole rig capable of 400ft/122m in Lagos Tin and Can island now, It is gonna clear soon, Can you give me any advice on that.?

and if you want you can send me your personal e-mail addy so we can talk easier.

Again thank you for this blog/topic. Its really kind of you to give us all this info for free.

Trust me, you are thinking abt good business with the tendency of it driving you crazy if you don't get the machine to buy right based on Nigeria factors. To be honest with you I am not hitachi's fan and I will not be able to tell you much about it for now.
You can always find where to put your tipper for use in Lagos, most especially ajah here. Believe me no much company in Nigeria taking tipper for long lease anymore. But you will always find job for them around.
