"A man has no business setting up a home he cannot provide for."

Unfortunately, this is a statement that seems to go against our economic profiles so many will frown at it. But really, a man has not business setting up a home he cannot provide for.
***********************************************

What happens then when you suddenly lose your source of income in the marriage?

People talk about tests in life and I promise you, for a responsible man, this one ranks high.

To look into the teary eyes of your children knowing you suddenly cannot give to them what they deserve, will attempt to crush everything inside of your soul keeping you up as a man.

You'd truly be unfortunate at this point to have a wife who would either be unable or unwilling to go through this period with you without attempting to further take from you, the little strands of dignity left on you.

Depression, chronic frustration and sporadic anger bouts become your norm as you search for a new meaning of life at the same time as trying to restore the old.

But then, a man has no business setting up a home he cannot provide for.
.........except, this man did set up a home he could provide for, he's just lost the means to do so.
***********************************************
1. Do a thorough and realistic reevaluation of your family financial situation.

2. Think well about what things are most important, what things are absolutely necessary and what things are luxuries.

3. Draw up a priority list because income has reduced/stopped. The most important things come first.

4. Think up ways to supplement your reduced/stopped income. There are several things that can be looked at, many of them may look small but small is better than none.

5. Don't lose your mind, you are not the only one in this situation. If others can survive, you can survive

6. Be patient with your spouse. This may seem strange given you feel you are the one who needs to be tolerated more. While this is true, your partner is also having to learn to deal with the new you and the new situation, it would be unfair to expect the change to be automatic and instant.

7. Don't read undue meanings to things. Fights will happen whether you are rich or broke, look to resolve issues for their true causes not link everything to financial status (except, well, it is about financial status)

8. Find cheap ways to relax. Just because you are broke doesn't mean your life has got to stop being fun filled.

9. Avoid alcohol and other substances not only because you need the cash but also because you need to clear your head. It is self deceptive at the very least to tell yourself you need substances to help you think.

10. Tell yourself that you are a survivor and believe it. Raise your game and hustle but keep it clean. Trust me, the temptation will be there to get dirty and it will be a strong temptation. You'd do yourself a lot of good if you fight the feeling.

At this point, you have done your bit. Take the rest to the door of The Most Gracious, Most Merciful One True God through prayers and stay consistent.

You'll be fine.
