Why would you say Alice's (the oil company spokesperson) sudden transformation after listening to some speeches by Tobodo - not very beleivable?
He showed her the best evidence he could, her own companies supposed investment in a Hospital, which was moribund and obvious no medical activity ever took place.
It is also a movie, hence, you need not be bored on how she was convinced.
With regard to BBC, i think they have significant autonomy. |

As the screenwriter of Blood And Oil I have read Chimamanda's comments with great interest. I am a huge admirer of her writing. I am also grateful to read all the subsequent comments from your readers. A few backgrond details that may interest you: We were not allowed to film in Nigeria and, indeed, David, the director, for insurance and security reasons, was not even allowed to visit Port Harcourt in 2009 when we travelled to Nigeria prior to filming in South Africa. This was very frustrating, for him as well as me. We wanted to use Nigerian (or British-Nigerian) actors in all the Nigerian roles but we were not allowed to financially: the cost of travel and accommodation in S Africa was too much and the budget was too tight to afford it. Neither could we use all British actors to play the British characters for the same reason: some of these were also white South African actors. We made an exception for Sam Dede. I met Sam when I travelled to the Delta in 2006 and I was very keen to have him involved; he's a great guy and a wonderful actor. Yes, Chimamanda is right, the men cuddling girls in the hotel is a silly scene. I totally agree with her. I wish it wasn't there and I cringe every time I see it. I am very distressed about the bad accents: all I can do is apologize for it. Chimamanda is again right on this, it's 'lazy' production values and there is no excuse for that. It should have been addressed prior to production. I am certainly going to find out why this happened and try to make sure that, certainly within the BBC, a mistake like this does not happen again. However, I humbly thank you for your interest. I worked long and hard on the authenticity of the storytelling. 2.3 million saw the programme in Britain and so there are now about 2 million more people who know - and I hope care - about the situation in the Niger Delta than there were two weeks ago, before the drama was shown. |

It was nice of the screen writers to reply to Ngoziz Adichie, now we know the reasons why it was not shot in Nigeria, am looking forward to more dramas. |
