Look at this post by someone else that visited owerri and stayed there few months. nnamdijonathan

This cuts the reality on ground in owerri. The town is a total mess. Today even Aba is looking better than Owerri. It is really a shame.

Afam4ev:
I just came back from Owerri and this time, i was opportune to comprehensively tour the city as well as some other parts of the state. We were taken to see some ongoing projects by the Governor, Rochas Okorocha, also accompanied by the Inspector General of Police. I visited the Rochas foundation for both African and Nigerian students. I also went to the newly built but ongoing Eastern Palm University. The road, to Orlu/Ideato is completely smooth save for a few spots and i think the Governor has done well in that regard. The police headquarters under construction will be one of the biggest in Nigeria when completed. I also commend the governor for that.

But I think i now have a complete understanding of what the problems in Owerri and Igboland is.

There's a problem of roads in Owerri even in the highbrow or popular areas. Take Control junction for example, there's no reason why that place shoud not have an excellent tarred road considering the fact that it's the gateway to Owerri if you're coming from the Onitsha axis. It's the same story in almost every part of the capital. Even the government house has it's own fair share of bad roads. How much more where you have FUTO and Nekede, especially where you have the poly. The road is extremely bad. Should we talk about Owerri inner streets, that despite the decent buildings have no roads whatsoever.

If any government wants to change Owerri forever, they should just focus on massive road construction in every nook and cranny of the capital.

nnamdijonathan, have you bothered to know why Igbos general don't live or invest in Imo state, it is because the state is very unattractive. It has the worst roads in the SE. Owerri is filled with bad roads, dirts everywhere. The streets are dilapidated and flooded. It is very unlivable. This explains why most of imo state people are living in Anambra and Enugu. Orlu and okigwe still rural areas. Most of the time i ask myself what is happening to our state. Are we cursed or are we the cause?

I am from Imo state and I will not lie to you. Owerri is a mess. All the roads in owerri are terribly bad with filth all over the place. I traveled to my state recently and I was spitting all through. All the hyping you are doing in imo thread does not cover anything. imo state generally is very ugly filled with bad roads, unemployment, armed robbery, prostitution. Awka, Onitsha are far better than owerri in all areas. Let us say the truth once and for once because it does not kill.

Lol. That means that Okorocha did not do much in constructing the inner city roads however, some of the roads he constructed are mode beautiful than those in Onitsha and Awka, for example, Jacob Zuma road is one of the cleanest roads in the east while Ojukwu's boulevard is by far the most beautiful road in the SE and roads like the Ojukwu's boulevard can only be seen in places like Abuja and banana island with beautiful flowers and mansions. Let's not forget the 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th inland roads like Akachi road which are more beautiful than those in Anambra and Imo state is even bigger than Anambra. Even when I taught that Anambra was going to be the eastern state with the best flyovers, Ebony state claimed that record by constructing the most beautiful and standard flyovers in the history of Igboland. Onitsha and Aba should better start planting flowers and trees to improve their beauty and reduce air pollution by a wide margin because both cities are currently the dirtiest in Africa while Onitsha is the world's champion in dirtiness. Have you also noticed that no organization or website or blog has ever placed any SE city above Owerri and Enugu in terms of beauty, clean environment and tourism? The truth is usually and always painful both the problem is that if they tell you guys Tue truth, you start to talk off point by insulting Imo and Abia states as if we were even talking of those States in the first place. The only thing I think makes Anambra stand out amongst other SE states is its new and improved Agricultural sector.

Stop jumping from pillar to post. Face the fact owerri is a total mess. Almost 100% of the roads in owerri are in a mess, totally dilapidated and filled with filth. Onitsha is by far more beautiful than owerri. Awka is like london compare to owerri. Let us start saying the bitter truth for once. There is nothing in imo state. All the roads are bad. Awka is not recognized as a city globally. No international organization has ever brought out a list of Nigerian cities and include Awka as a city. Awka is recognized as a developing town not a city or metropolis. The only recognised SE cities are Onitsha ( the biggest, most populated, richest and most commercial in the east and the biggest urban city in West Africa ), Enugu ( the political capital of the east and most beautiful Igbo city ), Owerri ( the second most beautiful eastern city with the busiest airport, the only fun and resort city in eastern Nigeria ), Aba ( commercial and industrial hub, and most densely populated city in the east ), other that are sometimes recognized are Nsukka, Abakaliki and Umuahia. Orlu and Awka, Asaba are negligible Igbo cities.

Onitsha is the economic capital of the SE, Enugu and Awka are the administrative capital of the SE and equally the most beautiful cities in the SE.

Owerri for the most part is still a semi urban center because the town is still largely rural with no roads. Imo state should get it right for once or else even Nsukka is set to overtake owerri soon.

Imo state is not the focus of this trend, so stop talking about Imo state. As for the above allegation, investors see IMO state as an entertainment haven and prefer to build hotels and casinos in IMO rather than build factories and we all know that Anambra has produced the highest number of industrialist in Nigeria when compared to other states which is why Anambra's industrial sector is booming year on year. Imo is currently the most interesting state in the SE that is why Owerri has the highest concentration of casinos, malls and hotels in Nigeria, more parties and events are held in Owerri than other eastern cities with a wide margin, Owerri airport is the 4th busiest airport in Nigeria and records more passengers than the airports in Kano, Benin, Warri, Kaduna, Enugu and also records more passengers than the combined number of passengers that come to Calabar and Uyo multiplied by 4 all because of Entertainment. Now tell me, how many times have celebrities held concerts ( like AY show ) in any SE state except Imo? Even Catholic and Anglican priests hold their meeting in Owerri every year not in Onitsha or Awka, NBA also holds its meetings in Owerri. my take is that Okorocha has failed in that aspect and must be replaced ASAP so that a better government can take over and fix those road problems. In Igboland today, Anambra and Enugu have the best roads and thanks to their government but the problem in Anambra is that there is no plan for tree planting. I also noticed that this same Owerri has the highest number of roads with pedestrian walk ways followed by Enugu while Enugu is the greenest city followed by Owerri.
Re: Update on developments in Anambra state-photos by lmo1stson: 4:47pm On Jul 21, 2018
You are getting it very very wrong. We are now comparing to know between Imo and Anambra which is better. Like I said for the most part Owerri is more or less a semi urban area. What they hosted has been hosted severally by Onitsha, Awka and Enugu. For the records owerri has nothing to its name except cheap brothels and prostitutes. Awka and Enugu has better hotel than Owerri. For the records Awka has more beautiful houses than Owerri. Awka equally has more duplexes than owerri and the whole of Imo state. Owerri airport nothing more than an ordinary motorpark, it is a dangerous place to land.

Enugu, Awka, Uyo, Calabar, Asaba are on the same level while Owerri, Nnewi, Orlu, Afikpo, Nsukka, Okigwe are on the same scale. This is a statement of fact and I must continue to uphold it here and always. Half of the population of Imo state are resident in Anambra but there is no Anambra person living in Imo state. Which one is the king to you? Imo state is a very backward state with nothing to show except bad roads and filth tongue

I am from imo state and i am living in Anambra, there is no single Anambra person in Imo state. It is a fact. Genesis is set to commission 2 cinemas in Awka and Onitsha while the one in owerri is closing down because of low patronage. Owerri is a worthless town, there is nothing moving in the town except prostitution. All the inner roads in owerri are in shambles. All the rich imo state people are all have their big investments in Anambra. Orange drugs built his largest company in Anambra but he has nothing in his home state. The reason is that Imo state is very un-attractive because it has very bad roads all over. There is no need coming here all the time to cry but channel that energy in pushing your failed gov to start fixing roads in imo state. All the roads in owerri are bad, let your gov fix them. owerri is always flooded because there is not drainage.

people in Obosi should stop painting their houses with brown paint, it makes them look dull. All the beautiful cities across the globe, at least the ones I have seen their pictures online, make use of bright colours like white, cream, and light grey which improves the beauty of not only the house but the entire city. I have also noticed that the top 5 beautiful cities in the world as voted for by individuals across the globe, are usually cities without skyscrapers and have thousands of 2 and 3 storey buildings just like what we currently have in Onitsha metro and Awka metro. You can check up for pictures of some of these cities online like Florence, Rome, Venice, Barcelona etc. Even the beautiful parts of Paris are the areas without high rise buildings.

So you expect me to ignore the statistics of the NBS and accept your sadist analysis? Whether Owerri airport is a motor park or not, it remains the 4th busiest airport in Nigeria while Anambra does not have a helipad talkless of an airport and please don't tell me that the FG did not build any airport in Anambra because, Imo state built its own airport and please stop replying me like a kid that does not read the daily news headlines. Comparing Imo to Anambra is not necessary because Imo surpasses Anambra in some sectors while Anambra surpasses Imo in some aspects.

Which NBS? Why are you living in delusion? Imo state at the moment do not have an airport, what they have is a motorpark. Anambra is building real international airport.

Imo state backward in the following:

Infrastructure

Education

Health

These are the fundamental of development. Let us take one after the other.

Lol. Stop deceiving yourself joor. Show me the website were Awka was placed side by side with Enugu and Owerri in terms of development. Does Awka not know its mates? Nnewi that you mentioned was classified as a TOWN with wealthy indigenes not a city. Nigeria has 28 globally recognized major cities and Awka and Nnewi did not make the list but Ogbomosho and Lokoja made the list, even Oyo town and Abeokuta that you guys always insult, made the list. Owerri also made the list. All the websites in Nigeria rate Owerri over Awka and Onitsha in terms of beauty at all times and with the poor tourism vision of Anambra residents, Owerri and Enugu are going to remain the only recognized Igbo cities that are beautiful out of over 7 Igbo cities which is very shameful.
You have been destroying him with facts and figures while he holds on with insults and bitterness, you may live him, he has been trashed several times here....
