@Labiyemmy,

No, not the second . He is actually the fourth(4th)

1. General Aguyi Ironsi-July 29th 1966 (Military Coup)

2. General Murtala Mohammed-February 13th 1976 (Military Coup)

3. General Sanni Abacha-June 8, 1998 (Heart attack??)

4. Alhaji Shehu Musa Yar'adua-5th of May 2010 (Pericadiatis)

You are also wrong man!

First, Abubakar Tafawa Balewa died as head of state in January 1966 (then, prime ministers were commander in chief of armed forces and head of state while the Governor General, Zik, was Head of Government under a parliamentary system).

Secondly, The man who died on 5th of May 2010 is Alhaji Umar Musa Yar'adua. Please note the name in bold.

no matter wetin we argue for nairaland, come 2011, whoever go rule naija, go rule naija. Its not like our vote counts. There's no miracle Goodluck can do before then to make our electoral system perfect. I just pray that there's no civil war/crises next year to come and set naija back by another 50yrs, shikena.

What next, i believe any qualified person in nigeria can contest for the post of president, let us free ourselves from this born to rule mentality, the north foisting on nigerians, for the 50yrs of nigeria as independent nation, the north ahs produce more than 8 heads of state or president and ruling over 38yrs without nigeria unity threatened, today the want us to believe if a southener emerge as president, the country will collapse. Please let nobody decive you nothing will happen, jonathan failure to contest for 2011 will make an idoit. (sorry to use the word)

Teacher don't teach me nonsense. undecided Under parliamentary system, the Prime Minister was the head of government; the President and Governor General (the head of state) was Zik.
Zik could actually fire the government and order new elections under that system.

Now that Yaradua is off the way, Jonathan should hasten and divide that yeye country before another alamajeri general show his ugly face. This kind of opportunity comes only in fifty years; and Jonathan should beware of the Ota ape!

why is everyone mentioning Ribadu for VP and no reference to El-rufai. IMO El-rufai is broadbased and should be the man Joe appoints as VP. Ribadu is good but should be left in the corruption-fighting agencies of government.

el-rufai has a better record than most people you can think of for the position and he has proven that while as a minister.

Those two have their faults but they are still miles ahead of most Northerners if we are condisering a Northern President. Nigeria will see progress under El Rufai or Ribadu. For one thing, the next President must not be tribalistic , nepotistic and feudalistic like Yar Adua. It should be someone detribalised, highly exposed, tolerant and capable of uniting Nigeria in ushering in an age where we can all go back to believing in Nigeria and in each other as Nigerians.

Yar Adua polarised with his clannish and cabalistic style. What we saw from Yar Adua we have never seen from El Rufai or Ribadu. We must avoid gaining a leader who is afraid of everyone he has not known from childhood or anyone not reccomended by childhood pals . Sadly, quite a few Northern politicians are like that. That is why it may be important for Nigerians to stick with "the devil we know". Yar Adua spent his time deploying "trusted" friend who could protect him against political enemies real and imagined. This , along with his illness, is why UMYA achieved very little in his time as President. He was deploying folks for their ability to protect him rather than for their ability to do their job well. We do not need a President who will bring in one of the most corrupt Nigerians (Anenih) as NPA boss (never mind the damage that will be done to our Port Authority) in an attempt to neutralise OBJ's influence.

We have regressed badly and we should not gamble with another 'unknown' as Yar Adua was in 2007. At least we have seen Ribadu and El Rufai at work. In a nation where there are no saintly politicians , the next best thing would be brave and determined Politicians who still bring a development agenda , plus the requisite political will, along with whatever faults they possess.
Re: Aftermath Of Yaradua's Death.what Next For Nigeria. by princekevo(m): 10:52am On May 07, 2010
They are the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Alhaji Yayale Ahmed; the National Security Adviser, Gen. Aliyu Gusau; former Speaker of the House of Representatives, Alhaji Aminu Bello Masari; former Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Mallam Nasir el-Rufai; Katsina State Governor Ibrahim Shema; Minister of State (Defence) Murtala Yar’Adua; former Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, Mallam Nuhu Ribadu; Governor Bukola Saraki of Kwara State; and Governor Isa Yuguda of Bauchi State.

Of the nine, the odds seem to be in the favour of Ahmed (who was described last night as a leading and experienced contender); Gen. Gusau; el-Rufai (a tested technocrat) and Ribadu.

Why are the 9 people on the favourite list all from North? Tml some hypocrites will come here to preach one Nigeria to me, and once 8years PDP leader will be at the CNN to deny PDP zoning of power to the north.

While UMYA was been laid to rest in Katsina yesterday, OBJ, EL-Rufai, Uncle Joe and some hard core Obj boys were holed up somewhere in the deep recess of one of the numereous Presidential guest houses in Abuja perfecting the plan for the post of V-P.

I told you guys, this game is just about to start counting down cool wink
