Nonetheless, i appeal to our people to wise up. We should begin to boycott anyone who participates in the economic war against Igbos. They are watching closely to see if our people will respond to their acts of wickedness or not.

If we continue acting in our usual nonchalant ways of not paying attention to important things like these, these people will continue to extinguish Igbo businesses one at a time. Their sole purpose is to pauperize us and make us inferior to them in Nigeria. It is up to us to help them do it, or protest with our pocket by choosing what and whose products we buy.

I am totally with you on this. Why is the official federal government car or state governments not innoson?

But when PAN had a kaduna Assembly plant, they made sure all the government agencies drove Peugeot.

IBETO has come back and trust me, he will give dangote a run for his money with the investments he is currently making.

Why is it that this house has remained uncompleted?

Projects in Nigeria generally suffer this fate...and more so if said project is a federal one located in the South East!

The problem with we Ndigbo is that we're too 'smart' for our own good! All this is happening to us because we've lost that pan-Igbo spirit/consciousness we had up to the early 70s

Gbam if the regional government were in operation, all the money stolen via corruption over the years could have been used to build key infrastructure for the development of Nigeria.

All the same, we have NO CHOICE than to build them ourselves through bringing states together to cooperate, because FG will NEVER build such for us. Infact, they will look for ways to frustrate it instead of supporting it so that other states can come together and copy the process in developing Nigeria.

Therefore the plan should be for a 5 years development plan for Regional railway.
The steps are.

1. The SE Governors and SS Governors should secure permission from FG to build the regional railway and float a company "Eastern Corridor Railways Corporation (ECRC)"

2. Every benefiting state will invest 1% of their budget as Equity into the company to take care on initial takeoff
This is later converted to shares in the company for the respective states.

3. Get Foreign companies to bid as foreign Technical partners to do the actual construction on a PPP arrangement and 100 Year BOT (Build-Operate_Transfer)

These three steps will ensure the project is actualized and it will greatly facilitate economic activities in both zones. Imagine travelling from Calabar to Onitsha or Port Harcourt on an air-conditioned train and get there in 2-3 hours? Or bringing your goods from Afikpo to Port-Harcourt. Then do your business and return to Calabar or Afikpo without Police harassment and bad roads?

If the total railway track is less than 1,000KM dual carriage railway, Then the total cost should be less than $1 billion dollars which can be financed partly by World Bank, China Exim bank and other international financiers when the bidding process is transparent. A 5-Year phase of $200 million dollars per year is also reasonable time-frame.

See you brains here ....and our idiots that call themselves politicians can't even consult people like you

This thread is just a compodium of intelligence

One thing Anambra State Government must tell OCHA brigade to enforce is ZERO PARKING ON THE EXPRESSWAY

I know they have tried in the past to get those Catapillars and trucks out of the expressway. It seems they have returned and nobody is towing them away and make them pay heavy fines to get the vehicles back

1. Power plants especially Gas and/or Coal and

2. Regional railway links are what the regional government should find Chinese financiers.

For a Total length of <1,000KM, to link key SE cities to the SS cities, this is a highly bankable venture for any investor.

These are the only projects that will give the region any hope of creating jobs within the region and cheaply moving goods and services from point A to point B.

Every other thing is secondary to these two major things that must happen. A lot has been said about this in numerous threads. I wonder why it has not started.https://www.nairaland.com/3780758/ohanaeze-sets-up-committee-design

I give full credit to creators of the SE & SS Regional Railway Masterplan. I like it and i will continue to remind us about it.

I just want to continue to repost it until our leaders do something about modernizing transportation of goods and services in the subregion.

This project is more important than building bridges on the River Niger or other small projects. This will link infrastructure in the region (Power plants, Industrial complexes, key airports, Key sea ports, key farming areas etc) by rail.

It is achievable within 5 years if we follow the 3 steps outlined in the post above.

Expect Afonja and Abooki to come here to insult us about this.

Work Advances On Second Niger Bridge Project
08 JULY 2018

Early Work Four is advancing at the Odekpe_Ogbaru axis of the Second Niger Bridge.

ABS crew who visited the site saw engineers laying foundation for the pilings while the one earlier started is nearing completion.
A credible source from Julius Berger, the firm handling the Second Niger Bridge project said Early Work Four will be completed by end of July and if the actual contract is not awarded before then, they will vacate the site.

The source further pointed out that ten billion naira was allocated for the Second Niger bridge in this year's budget which he pointed out is below the estimated budget but expressed hope that the Federal Government will source the remaining fund from ancillary sources to take care of the project. On the Issue of compensation being paid to those whose structures were demolished at Odekpe to make way for the Second Niger Bridge.

The President General of Odekpe Community ,Hon.Vincent Okei said they heard from the media that some people were compensated but they were not carried along pointing out that even if compensation is paid to some people who bought land from Odekpe and erected structures, the land still remains Odekpe land hence the need to do the proper thing. He further said that the community liaison officer was supposed to be contacted for boundary demarcation before the demolition noting that apart from structures and buildings, economic trees, shrines and ponds were also involved in the things to be considered.

In response to the issue of compensation demanded from Julius Berger by Odekpe community, a source from Julius Berger made it clear that compensation is the affair of Ministry of Works, Power and Housing, stating that Julius Berger was contracted by the Federal Government under the Ministry of Works to execute the project and advised the affected communities to channel their claims to this Ministry.Respondents who spoke to the ABS on the Second Niger Bridge including Mr Nweze Ani,Frederick Okoye and Ikechukwu Ede expressed joy that work is moving on at the project adding that it will ease traffic and aid their businesses but urged the Federal Government to ensure the project is not abandoned half way due to under budgetary allocation, while Engineer Paschal Omeh pointed out that the work is still at the foundation level expecting to see the main construction work commence soon

Spyder, bros you're sounding a tad patronising! smiley

This may hurt some Anambra 'supremacists' (that's if they're actually from Anambra), but i'm yet to see what is currently on ground or being done presently that would lend credence to your assertion that Awka is poised to be 'one of the best cities in Africa'! Let's stop fooling ourselves and the gov't or else they would relax and actually think they're doing enough!

What is giving one excitement about Anambra as a whole is mainly private enterprise and effort; state gov't needs to up their game, while the presence of the federal gov't is almost completely none-existent!

Is the state gov't doing anything? Sure they are: especially with regard to bringing order, sanity and cleanliness to the environment of Onitsha and Awka; security; and agriculture. But to say you're satisfied that Awka is going to be one of the best cities in Africa....from what i see on ground presently, i beg to differ!

Xander85 don’t let those good for nothing fake supremacist devils influence your feelings towards akwa. Akwa is beautiful and you are right that it’s due to private investment.

But obiano has finally started building enabling infrastructures to help its expansion to become more orderly. Also he has cleared so many illegal structures and is beginning to take the city master plan seriously. We will not see the results of his actions today. It will take some time. My only wish was that he started doing it his first term instead of waiting until his second term. The true reason is that he wanted support if the people to win his second election. It was a political move.

There seems to be very few hostels for students of Nnamdi Azikiwe university, Awka. As a result of this, private hostel development has been booming in the city. I see same in Nekede, Owerri, also in Agbani, Enugu.

Is this good or bad for the state/ region?
