If you want to write in English, you might as well do it well.
Aunty Poco what do you understand by informal chats?

It's wrong to write a person's name in lower case, I don't see anything wrong in her correcting you. If only people could compose chats the way they compose application letters, we won't be seeing all sorts of headache inducing grammar all over the social media.

Oya let NL lead the way by putting usernames in the correct case. Disrespecting users since 2003. Small boy seun osewa

I hate when people start my name with lowercase letter during chatting. One's name is a proper noun and that should be respected irrespective of what ever mode of communication

Nah..you are wrong. Its an informal conversation, yes. But if the person specifies that they would like to retain that aspect of formality then you have to oblige in order to respect the other person's sensibilities

The fact that you are belittling the person's request just because you yourself dont think it is important actually shows your own disrespect for your friend. A casual conversation isnt just about so-called "informality" but also respecting other people's boundaries so that everybody will be comfortable. You dont think it matters, therefore every other person on the planet shouldnt think so either? Thats arrogance my friend

At the bolded, you are just making the same mistake all over again. when spelling "Igbo", people let it slide if you spell it as "Ibo" because of our colonial history. However if somebody corrects you on it then its disrespectful to continue spelling somebodys name wrongly just because you cant be bothered.

If you cant spell somebodys name the way they like it, then dont bother writing it in the first place!

This isnt really about spelling but about respect. Just like some people can jokingly tell somebody "Ode!" or "you are talking nonsense!" It may sound like a joke to them but others get very upset about it.

You are not just having a conversation with yourself. You are having a conversation with another person and their own personality, emotions, mentality, upbringing, values, personal history, religion, and quirks.

If you go about using your own understanding of the world to judge others and tell them how they should feel about things then you shouldnt be surprised when you dont have any friends left at all!
Preach. He is just there arguing nonsense. So because you're having an informal conversation you will not respect someone's wishes on how they want to be addressed?

Must you bring this irrelevant issue to Nairaland?
Anyway, this information you shared just stopped president Buhari from travelling out of the country again. Thank you

Maturity is about knowing what to pay attention to and what to ignore....you should be more worried about the ilk of naive lowlives your company is made up of.
