That's why many teachers get beaten up mercilessly by students after school. A lot of teachers know it especially public school teachers. They show their powers inside the schools and the students show their gang powers outside the schools.

At the worst the phones should have been seized and not destroyed.

In my secondary school days, my principal was walking by me during the morning assembly and saw a small catholic rosary given to me by my mum on my neck. He ordered me to take it off and drop it inside a little fire in front of him (he had instructed us not to wear necklaces and we must all shave our beards cleanly). When I refused to take it off and offer my explanation to him, he got very angry. He was wearing an agbada. In that anger he moved to slap me, but I dodged his slap. He missed me and fell down with his agbada. The whole school erupted with chants of joy. Our principal had fumbled and disgraced himself!

It is because of people like you I refused to join the military. See how you're judging the case from two paragraphs and a 30 second video that explains next to nothing. I for find you and flog sense into your synapses.

As a parent, I use my hard earned money that I worked tirelessly for to buy a phone for my child so as to track him or her in this evil world we live in. That child defies school rules and takes it to school. The school finds it and asks my child to destroy it in front of the whole school under duress with a camera in front of her. I don't have this information but then I wake up to see the video on Nairaland frontpage, bros, people go die.

All of you quoting me are very mad hypocrites. If you read my comment well, you would see that I'm mad because the girl was videotaped and had it posted on the internet. None of you, I repeat, none of you would allow your child to be exposed on the internet for anything at all except for funny viral videos they post by themselves or by you, the parent. I would sue to school to court and win. Yes, the child broke the rules in school just like all you dumbass hypocrites insulting me did but I'd like to see where it is stated in print that such punishment will be the result of bringing a phone to school. Dumb lot. Na why SARS dey slap slap una all over town because you don't know your rights.Thunder strikes the next person who quotes me spewing bullshit

Mehn, people have really lost it. Abi do your brains have coronavirus or you've been smoking Colorado? Will it kill them to seize the phone for the rest of the term or even the rest of the school year? Truth is the child will be more remorse than this nonsense all of you mad people are supporting. Are you people insane how can you not see the evil here. If all schools, made videos of kids who break rules and post them on the internet, what kind of world would we be living in? Are you people mad?!

This is a crime. The school could be sued for property damage.

Why is it Nigerians with some authority like harsh measures that do not really serve any meaningful purpose? What purpose does the destruction of property serve? What of kids whose parents need to communicate with them immediately after school?

For all you eediots saying there is a rule, so if a child in secondary school gets pregnant, would the school abort the baby because student aren't supposed to come to school pregnant?

If phones are such taboo objects, then suspend students that insist on bringing them.

I hope they get sued for destroying the phones, for forcing a student to do it, and for recording her and posting on the internet.

It's high time the backward souls in Africa learn to focus on what is truly important.

Same thing happened during my secondary School days but no much social media prowess like this then so it wasn't recorded.
The phones was set on fire then, with surprise, a strong headed student then, deeped his hand inside the fire and ran with many phones grin grin
That was how Lati excused himself from school and began attending another secondary school. He became a terror to our school that himself and new gang do attack us with machete and juju. The rest is now story grin

Next time learn to air your opinion after reasoning. Rules are made by each school and should your child break it, she must bear the fallout of it. Feel free to train her at home or get a private tutor for her, Mr Know All.

Superpack, next time understand the point he is trying to make before posting nonsense, his main point is 1. exposing a minor to the world on the internet, that is worse than the crime the school is punishing the students for, also, 2. Is it clearly stated that phones found on students will be destroyed? I just bought a phone on Saturday. its $900.00, now if my child smuggles that phone to school and it is discovered and destroyed? Someone will pay for that, i don't know how, but guaranteed someone responsible for ordering the destruction will either pay through the court system or through agbero system. Yes, i agree there should be rules and it has to be strictly obeyed, however, you don't use your self righteousness or stupidity or religiosity or old school strict mentality to destroy things bought with hard earned money.

My broda, the things that happen in Nigeria, i don't know how i will remain sane. Some years back, a born again lady principal asked girls in senior secondary school to line up with virgins on one line and non virgins on another line. She now asked the school nurse to physically check the virginity of the virgins and it continued until a girl was actually disvirgined in the process, she now stopped it. This happened in Ogun State Nigeria, whenever i think about that, i don't know what i will do if a school principal should violate my daughter like that.

This is wickedness........ How will her parents/guardians keep track of her??
If I’m the parent/guardian, that teacher must replace the phone........
NwekeUG:
IgbereTV captured a video showing a student of the Federal Girls College Akure destroying her phone and those of her schoolmates under the supervision of her teacher.

According to IgbereTV reports, the students violated the rules of the school by bringing their phones to school and as punishment, one of them was asked to destroy all the phones during the school’s morning assembly.

Don’t the teachers know that batteries explode under pressure and they are allowing the innocent girl to hit the phones and batteries with a stone?!!!!!!!

On the other hand @Youngperson...the school has their rules and regulations, if you can’t abide by them then don’t put you kids there if you have any. The better you understand that, the easier life will be for you. Perhaps no wonder the name Youngperson. Maybe when you become an olderperson you will get it.

It is the parents' failure.the teacher's extremism is excusable and can be overlooked.

can you imagine! I don't even want to imagine it. What's their business with a student's virginity? angry

It's because these people don't get punishment for overstepping their boundaries that the majority think its okay.

If the teacher had seized the phones, some people will definitely call them criminals.

This is why white will continue to discriminate the blacks. Infact we are backward. Some Nigerians have decided not to be in 21st century instead they are still in the 1st century. Now, tell me, What is the difference between civilized and uncivilized man?. Most time we claim we knot it all but we know nothing.

For those clapping for the teacher I want to tell you that in as much as discipline is needed to be maintain, there are many ways to achieve that.

If God judges this way you people do, just know it that 99.9% of you would have died by the wrath of God.

Believe it or not, there are many ways to kill a rat. Now answer me, what did you gain after spoiling the phone?. Now do you think the aim of spoiling the phone was achieved ? With our 1st century sense it was achieved but the truth is that it wasn't. The teacher should not forget he is also human being.

Personally, I think the best way is to seize the phone for a whole term, if she insist coming to school with it, I will take it to the orphange for charity. In case you don't know orphange homes still have grown-up like them that can use the phone
