It is because of people like you I refused to join the military . See how you're judging the case from two paragraphs and a 30 second video that explains next to nothing. I for find you and flog sense into your synapses.

As a parent, I use my hard earned money that I worked tirelessly for to buy a phone for my child so as to track him or her in this evil world we live in. That child defies school rules and takes it to school. The school finds it and asks my child to destroy it in front of the whole school under duress with a camera in front of her. I don't have this information but then I wake up to see the video on Nairaland frontpage, bros, people go die .

Joining the military is never a ticket to lawlessness.

[s]I'm sorry but you sound really stupid, your kids have tracking device but it's With their guardians, so how the hell are you going to know where they are.when you were raised did your mother installed a tracking device on your mobile phone and how many times were you kidnapped, in a lame attempt to copy white people you equip your kids with tools to destroy their lives at an early stage, it is your type that raise kids that have access to porn, slaying, violence, vulgarity at a very tender age simply because you want to be western. Grow up[/s].

You really are a m0ron. I thought I am chatting with a sane person not knowing that he is a complete plonker.
Once the kids leaves the school environment and is heading home, who monitors them? Your fucking useless government?

]If you bought that for your child, your child won’t be attending a public school.[/b] Most teachers in private schools love their jobs more than they love your kid. They’d rather allow your kid be a waste than lose their jobs. If you however bought the phone genuinely for good reason, you’d also know to always ensure your child hands it over to the teacher every morning and only had access to school outside school or when you call through the teacher. If the phone like make e cost 1billion, there is a right way to use it.

This is wickedness, why not just seize the phone and invite the parent for questioning.

The teacher deserves to pay for it if I'm related to the student.
You're one of the few people with a working brain here. Some of those teachers are just mad they don't even own or know how to use an Android device. Fact!
Re: Akure Teacher Asks Student To Destroy Her Phone As Punishment (Photos, Video) by Timoleon(m): 3:08pm On Mar 03, 2020
This is another angle to it bro. Most of the people who angry don’t have experience with kids. Some children will rather pay the teacher extra than let it come to light that they have phones let alone brought it to school. I have mentioned it here severally that many parents are not even aware of the existence of these phones.
viktuur:
Do you know some students prefer this as their parents didn't give them the phones.

That’s why she must be subjected to such stupid and destructive act as punishment? This is why Nigeria is a failed state. We are utterly useless, clueless and ridiculous.

We have learnt nothing but how to destroy our selves and country.

What kind of meaningless and destructive punishment is that

As a teacher, I support the punishment. You need to see how useless children behave with phones in schools in Nigeria. Why are suicide rate among us school age children rampant if not for cyberbullying?.

So all those threatening fire if your child phone is destroyed so also know that you are not the only custodian of threat. If the oven is too hot, stay away from the kitchen.

Rules are meant to be obeyed so if you can't send your child aboard and when your wards becomes uncontrollable, you would know.

No wonder, children are getting spoils because useless parents are backing them. Many comments here make me wonder where morals would be in the next 20 years.

All of you quoting me are very mad hypocrites. If you read my comment well, you would see that I'm mad because the girl was videotaped and had it posted on the internet. None of you, I repeat, none of you would allow your child to be exposed on the internet for anything at all except for funny viral videos they post by themselves or by you, the parent. I would sue to school to court and win. Yes, the child broke the rules in school just like all you dumbass hypocrites insulting me did but I'd like to see where it is stated in print that such punishment will be the result of bringing a phone to school. Dumb lot. Na why SARS dey slap slap una all over town because you don't know your rights.Thunder strikes the next person who quotes me spewing bullshit

this is wrong on the part of the student .its understandable that she broke the law but what is the purnishment for it ?is it by burning her patent’s hard earned money ?if not then the school should be help responsible the best thing to do is to suspend to destroy the phone we shouldn’t discourage this kids .

If Nigeria must be great again then we have to erase the mentality of cruelty from people's head, learning is meant to be fun like WTF! Is your life better than that of kids who take their phones to school abroad? You should be ashamed of your reasoning in this 21st century. You didn't use phone in secondary school and what have you invented since then? How has the orderliness in your life boosted the Nigerian economy? WAKE UP FROM YOUR SLUMBER!

The people against this act are not against the child being punished we are against the destruction of private property. Can't the child be punished by caning, cutting grass or some physical labour within the school environment? Outside the school does it make sense if an erring driver is caught and his/her car is destroyed? Instead the car or license might be seized and the driver will have to pay a fine not that his car would be destroyed. Destroying the phones by the school shows a lack of respect for the work that went into buying that phone, it shows lack of respect for value.

Why did she bring the phone to school, I remember when I was in school you were not allowed in school and it was repeated a number of times and on my last term of SS1 a student phone rang in the middle of assembly and the principle smash it. It was a lesson to other and it hasn't repeated till I finished

Keep shut fool, you first tell me what your dump ass as invented? You need to watch and read the various news on child suicide based on gadgets like this. If Steve jobs didn't give his children mobile phone until aged later than 15,that because he knows the harm. Yes, the rules may look cruel but rules are rules, so educated fool, if it is too hot, hit the exit door. Rules are rules.

You are right! But do you think it is because of our rich culture that is why taking phones to school in Nigeria isn't proper? Have you ever wondered why university lecturers don't force you to bring a laptop for a course that has to do with a computer program? Instead, they will give you the option of pairing with someone that has. It is poverty!
Attached to my reply is the comment of lower secondary school students who are allowed to use phone in their schools in a developed country as well as the do’s and don’t.

Timoleon:
Answer this objectively, from the number watching on there, are there many of them who would now rather keep their phone at home than bring them to school and face this situation thereby obeying the school rules? Is it harsh? Yes. Is it drastic? Yes but is it necessary? Sometimes this is the only way you get through to some kids. The kids now understand that there are consequences for their actions. This is a lesson that cannot really be taught with words. We know that a finger put in fire will hurt not because we were told but because we actually got burnt. The lesson stays with us forever.

Isn't it more reasonable to seize the phone and keep it till whenever? Asking that child to destroy that phone reeks of personal vendetta.
People here obviously aren't reasonable with what we've seen so far. I mean, just read some of this shiit. Even if the child was caught watching porn, does the whole of the internet have to know? The vendetta could even be directed at her parents, who knows?

You are not the one to set the extent the school can go with the punishment. Don't give me Lee way of what the school can do and can't. If the school is against it, then keep your wards off phone in school. I rest my case.

So the school can abuse my child and do whatever they want? No. If I put my child in that school then it means I was okay with the way the school disciplines them. I'm surprised this is coming from a teacher. Anyway, this is Nigeria and this thread has been an eye-opener on the reason why things are the way they are in this country. I pray things get better, I have faith.

The first part of your attachment says that every school has different rules.... t further says parents ought to be careful first, to buy phones when the kids can us it appropriately.

School rules are always told to the parents before enrollment. It will be unruly and truly a wrong type of parenting to then intentionally go around contravening such rules. If a parent isn’t comfortable with such rule, simply find a school that accepts your position. It sends a wrong message to the kid to flout rules and laws then go around acting victim. Schools re als character building institutions. Being a law abiding citizen is a good character.

Re: Akure Teacher Asks Student To Destroy Her Phone As Punishment (Photos, Video) by bussy4life: 4:13pm On Mar 03, 2020
I am not in support of what the teacher did but I have few things to add
Firstly,i observed that we parent of this era don't care what the child does we tend to blame teachers at every punishment made to our kids. I could remember in the early 80s our parents give our teachers go ahead to scold/punish us anytime we offend or fail to keep the school rules and regulations and thank God we achieved our purpose in life.
Secondly, no matter how the school spell it out for the student not to bring phones to school you'll see them smuggling it out from their respective homes on the other hand some parents might even mandate their kids to take it with them, once the teacher seized it some parent might say it's because the teacher cannot afford that type of phone, or the student will say I'll get my phone back in a week time,we know student now
Finally, I pray God should help us all to be a good role model to our children.
If the teacher had beaten the student we all know the comment we'll pass.
Not here to judge anyone. God bless us all
