Hi , Just a quick follow up concerning your US Health Insurance. Like you i had it and i used it( Hubby's company insurance too) , very helpful indeed especially for any unforeseen circumstances. I would advise you ask the insurance company exactly what is covered for maternity, how much they will pay (mine was a 80/20 arrangement, me paying 20% of the total costs). Also find out what your maximum out of pocket expense is, that is, do they require you to make a minimum payment first before(your 20%) before they make 100% of the bills. How many days in the hospital are they willing to pay for, i.e, for vaginal and CS. ( mine was 3 days for Vaginal and 5 days for CS), will they be paying for specialists? etc Ask all the questions you can. They ususally dont spell it out for you. Also as soon as you have your LO, register them with your insurance company ASAP. Find out the timing for that, its usually 7 days. this will allow them to also cover the baby, but baby will aslo have to meet his/her own out of pocket expenses etc. Your insurance company should have hospitals and practices within its network that they would recommend for you, through that you should be able to find a Dr, practice and hospital willing to take you. i gave my options to my insurance company ( thru international SOS ) and they made the appointment for me. US insurance very helpful but very shady too!!!! you will have to hold your cash too my dear, no matter what. please feel free to ask any questions. eazydune: 3 Likes |

bloggerina: My very own sister! Thanks alot. As far as I'm concerned, airlines donot serve food. Na only drink them get, like say person be fish. Phoenix don empty seriously. Even the Financial Counsellor said they have noticed a sharp drop in patient load. Before nkor? Naija people no dey dull for that kain thing na. No single Naija mum in the whole of Crossland, about 5 in East Oak and few staying in rented apartments. It's all good though, as the staff seem more 'relaxed'. Hopefully, one will expect better services. 1 Like 1 Share |

Hi, sure you PM, don't know how that works though, but send a PM, I hope i can find out how to read it!!! To answer your question about hospitals, my insurance company , has a list of hospitals on what they call their "preferred network" ,as they call it. These are hospitals that they have negotiated discounted prices for services. Also, they have other hospitals outside their preferred network but do nt have discounted prices but will accept your insurance company. I had family living in Texas so I searched for hospitals , practices& Doctors within their coverage (listed on their website) and near my chosen accommodation ( family home). Got a list of Dr's , gave the list to the international Liason I.e, International SOS ,who then secured the appointment for me. (I live outside Nigeria) As for POE, I didn't show anything because nothing was asked, it was over 4 years ago, and it was Houston. Back then there wasn't any direct flight from Lagos so it wasn't too bad, but I would advise you to have your insurance card, email correspondence and cash. ( I had this with me). I did tell them the truth and I have renewed my visa twice afterwards. So no shaking. eazydune: |

@babyspice, dis awoof dey sweet me .Our insurance company has dr own health care providers too but said we can choose our own hospitak nd furnish dem with dr details so they liase directly with them cos dr office is in florida too.I av a family in LA, am now looking for hospitals in LA so I can furnish them with d details. As for d coverage, they cover 100% of all hospital expenses during child birth nd so many other things eg am entitled to a care assistsnce at home for maximum of 8days but 7hrs per day.Hubby jst calked to confirm if we av to pay some % age nd they said no dr coverage for my maternity is 100% nd not 80/20.Inorder nt to bore d forum with dis I will pm u d coverage docs so u read too. Wot document did they give u at d hospital as evidence of payment nd wot hosp doc did u use to renew ur visa? Thanks |
Re: Give Birth In USA: Cost And Procedure? by KayLayChi: 11:46am On Nov 29, 2014 |
chochom: I wrote to some hospitals in May and a few replied, didn't continue writing cos I wanted to get preggy first, will continue the search now. I hear Cali is expensive the attraction for me is just my family so I'm not spending on accomodation. I plan to travel with between $9k - $10k to avoid POE wahala. But my budget for medical bill is max $6.5k (normal delivery) could get something lower though. Do you have your visa already, I got mine in March so wud just send them the mail informing them of my change of plans. I sent you a PM so reply then we can take it up from there. I'm sure there will be other July moms as most of them will just be finding out... |

House I hail oo, Been following this link for a while now, officially joined today. Thank you all for the overly useful info posted here. Currently doing my research for hospitals in Florida, due in April. Will come back to the house with my own little input once I get responses from the hospitals... Happy to plan with any April mummy heading to Florida. No questions for now... Once again Thanks you all and congrats to all the new mummies and all those who gracefully made it through POE.God is forever with us. 3 Likes |

If you feel comfortable enuf to PM the docs for perusal , then that's fine. As for the hospital evidence, I have Extensive receipts because I paid a percentage. I have a zero balance receipt from the hospital and also i have the insurance company statements they send to me frequently. ( keep al, receipts and bills, document them). I didn't show any doc when renewing my visa ( I took them along with me though) I was asked why I had them there and they were like, ok!! I guess I was fortunate then but I got asked the second time around and said the same thing!! Consistency in my answers I guess, it was in their system too!! eazydune: |
