If it would still be more expensive than Foreign rice (like much of the other packaged nonsense local rice brands), then it makes no sense.

If it's not Thai rice it's not the same quality and should cost significantly less.

Foreign rice is subsidized by their governments to corner the global market in the long run. Just think about producing, milling, and the transportation costs involved in shipping their products offshore thousands of miles away from their rice farms. Thailand soil is no further fertile than Naija/African soil so try not to exhibit a inferiority complex about our own country/continent. We would probably also have an vibrant domestic and export market if our past leaders weren't so corrupt in collecting import fees, supporting offshore markets, parking capital/loot in tax havens and in phony shell companies. Our prices will go down as we ramp up production and learn to cost save.

Import are bad, leads to capital flight. In import business only the importer and shipping company gains, we need to start doing more export, this benefits the economy, IGR, GDP, employment, increase in nation's currency, while importing does the opposite.
