He Is Not A Graduate by meyri: 6:11pm On Dec 06, 2011 |
Met amazing guy recently. We just click and we make each other happy. I have introduce him to my family and friends and they like him. But one thing they cannot look over is his occupation. He can repair fix anything from car to electronics to large appliances. He makes a good living and is very independent. But he not a graduate. He says he waited to long to gain admission so he decide to learn a trade to keep him busy. Want to go back to school but he says he doesn't have time and struggled with paying attention in school and he not sure if he want to relive that. My parents call his job "dirty job" and say that his future is not secure w/o degree. Na weting dirty job? A job is a job as long as you can support urself and ur family. Must a secure job be an office job? My family and friend don't value him and look at him sideways. My mama says that Im wasting my time and staying longer w him will make it difficult to leave. For me his occupation doesnt bother me. I'm I being naive in investing time and energy in this relationship? Or should I convince my friend and family that he actually has worth? |

I think its a good idea that he goes back to school even if its part time, that way he'll still have time for his job, your parents just want the best for you,try and convince him to enroll into school. |

meyri: you have nothing to worry about. your partner is a cash-cow. if your parents think he's got no worth - bring him to the uk. he would make more money than all the first class graduates from your home town put together. the real worth of a man is his skills(what he can do) and not a piece of paper some graduates bought with £2000. graduate my arse! 2 Likes |

190_@: but you know it's true. artisan jobs are hotcakes in developed countries - it's only in the 3rd world countries like nigeria that people still worship the certificate. ring up handy men to come and fix something in your flat and see how much you'd be charged. i wish i didn't waste years in the uni sitting in the office. . . .i should be doing plumbing work for single women around goldieluk's neighbourhood. |

Re: He Is Not A Graduate by Nobody: 7:12pm On Dec 06, 2011 |
And how many graduates in Nigeria can find jobs? He's a smart man by learning a trade and supporting himself. There're many people who make tons of money in skilled trades. And you even said he "makes a good living and is independent." If he's happy with what he does and does well for himself, that's all that matters. If he wants to go back to school, that should be his choice. Your parents calling his job "dirty job" sorta indicates they're only worrying about prestige, that he's not a Doctor, a Lawyer or whatnot and aren't taking into consideration that he makes good money with the job he has. If he's happy with his job and you're happy with him, that should suffice. |

@ meyri if your guy were to be in the UK MY DEAR labour work pays so well and handsomely in the UK MORE THAN WHAT SO CALLED GRADUATES IN NIGERIA EARN even those with first class combine in nigeria will not earn what he will earn in the UK unfortunately nigeria is all about white collar jobs even blue collar job is not accepted in nigeria as a means of living by some. in the UK NOBODY gives a hoot about what sort of collar job you are wearing THE £ IS WHAT TALKS FOR YOU as long as you can earn a living , nigeria as a country do things upside down thats why there is massive unemployment whereby everybody wants to wear suit and tie and do office jobs thats is no longer available , just tel your guy to enhance and upgrade himself with some qualifcations in the areas of his skill . |

Re: He Is Not A Graduate by coogar: 7:32pm On Dec 06, 2011 |
Russialane: it's a hopeless country. everyone wants to be a graduate by force. no entrepreneurship - whereas, university is not for everyone. the most annoying thing is when you speak to the so-called graduates, your stomach would turn in revulsion. some of them cannot speak to save their lives. you might cop migraine while reading from some of them. then you begin to wonder how some of them bagged their first degree. the unemployment level is a curse. 40 million youths are not employed, broke-assed and this is why they steal blackberry phones and do indirect prostitution. |

Re: He Is Not A Graduate by coogar: 7:47pm On Dec 06, 2011 |
Russialane: and this is why you see 50,000 applicants @ chevron interview centre when chevron are only looking for 20 applicants! yet we wonder why there are so many robbers/whores/yahoo boys and what-not! the parents are not even making it easier for their wards. they would force a complete dullard to read medicine/pharmacy. by the time he bribes his way out of college - he'd start prescribing wrong drugs and killing patients in his hospital. |
