Beaf:

People would always have resisted. Many of us argued stridently that the removal of the subsidy would clear away massive levels of corruption in the system. That is excactly what we are witnessing now.

We stand vindicated. By the time this is all through, every man and his dog would regret ever paying N65 only to be so enslaved.

Your response shows that you lack understanding of where I am coming from.
Your stance was a NO to the resistance. If you knew the people will resist by taking to the streets, why did you drag those actions through the gutters of tribal sentiments? You instead tried to make a section of the country look better than another by mocking protesters' choice to resist and now turn back to say you knew they would and you stand vindicated?

If everyone took your stance, no one would have protested and all this would not have been revealed. There's no moral ground for you to claim vindication of decision on the back of the the comments you've posted in the past few weeks.

If the people did not protest, none of this would have been revealed and hence the protesters are vindicated . . Not you.

Mr Man, are you watching a different programme?

This intelligent woman is providing brilliant answers to questions.

By the way, why heap the blame of Nigeria's woes on a woman
that resumed as minister only in September, 2011- just four months ago?

They led to nothing. They only ended up the smokescreen for what nateevs is pretending not to understand.

coded guy:

Chei grin grin grin With where u stood during the bruhaha am surprised you are saying this.

Where did I stand? I said those protesting where lazy phuckers who were unwilling to apply their minds or educate themselves about Nigerian realities. Does it seem like my stand is different today?

My arguments against the subsidy hinged around three things:
[li]It would deal a mortal blow to the corrupt oil industry and move us another step toward true federalism.[/li]
[li]That people aught to be taking a lot more interest in what their LG chairmen and governors roles are in a federal system.[/li]
[li]The money saved could be channelled into productive areas of the economy like research and development, agriculture, education etc.[/li]
[li]It would create a level playing field that would allow the influx of private refinery builders.[/li]
Our anti-subsidy arguments were far superior to those of the comical #Occupy brigade. In fact, all they had was sentiment; all tears, abuse and curses.
Indeed, all of us who withstood their torrents of insults and abuse stand vindicated today; every Nigerian is getting bombarded with tales of mind-fogging corruption, all in just a few short days. We should be prepared to be drunk with many more of such exposures even though the wagon has hardly left the courtyard.

He did not compare . . .  he sited an example of how other governments who have been faced with similar issue, have instead handled their case and still come out tops. And then he proceeded to ask her if that case could apply to us here in Nigeria . . . could we not have pursued a similar solution. That is how you arrive at good solutions. You look around for good cases, no matter where and then you consider if those methods will work for your case. Also note: Ohio is not an oil producing state so the example works even more.

Woman . .  stop with the babbling and answer the question!

I am trying, really trying to understand what she is trying to justify with these rants. The dude asked a simple question. What level of sunsidy can Nigeria sustain without increasing just like it is done somewhere else? Just quote figures lady and stop the merry-go-round.

If we cannot afford it, let's just say so. I don't care how much oil Suadi, Quate and the US have got. How have we channelled ours?

Re: Okonjo-iweala Testifies Before Subsidy Probe Committee - Live by 989900: 1:53pm On Jan 19, 2012
Using oil reserves per person is a dumb comparison. The practical comparison is oil production per day, per  person.

In between our yet discovered oil reserves would still go for over 40 years.

Compare us with Malaysia.

Compare us with Algeria.

Are we really 167million?

Is our population properly harnessed?

How can the ministry of Finance pay without knowing how much we refine locally in relation to how much we import?

So you are still talking about a non-existent subsidy?

Are you just daft or do you make an effort tobe clueless

Incase you are really just daft, the subsidy removal is NOT what is bringing about these revelations . .  the investigation is.

One would have thought that your President would have embarked on this 'investigation' before plunging millions of Nigerians into such dire hardship in the name of subsidy removal  . . .

Another campaign for GEJ. Have you asked, if subsidy had been removed and people did not resist, said YES IT'S FINE and went about their business, would we ever know these things?

I just cannot stand you. You have a stark penchant for skewing every fact in favour of someone. These things are being revealed 'primarily' because the people resisted not 'only' because subsidy was removed as you make it seem.

Indeed. Trying to give GEJ credit here is effectively a non-starter argument in so far as he chased blanket subsidy removal passionately instead of instigating a thorough probe of the oil sector in the first place. If Nigerians had accepted the N141/L price then misssion accomplished  for all of them.

The budget is an awful piece of work

The people saying she's only been there for a few months are just talking from bothe sides of their mouth. This whole subsidy removal thingy was her idea. If she was that convinced about it, she should at least show some level of knowledge!

This is just a wild goose chase anyways . . . .  everything will be swept under the carpet soon!
